I only have Winterhearts Guild, but I like them a LOT. More good songs than bad to me :D

And..I think Dragonforce is my favorite Power Metal band, although I havent heard very many. Can anyone suggest some good Helloween or Iced Earth songs?
Helloween: eagle fly free, future world, twilight of the gods, rise and fall, save us, kids of the century, back on the streets, we burn, wake up a mountain, mr.torture, escallation 666, where the rain grows, gake me home, just a little sign, open your life, the tune.

Iced Earth: when the night falls, angels holocost, stormrider, desert rain, pure evil, travler in stygian, burnt offerings, dante's inferno, winter nights, violate, the hunter, the last laugh, depths of hell, vengance is mine, burning times, melancholy, disciples of the lie, watching over me, stand alone, consequences, my own savior, reaping stone, birth of the wicked , wolf, damien, dragons child, dracula, the reckoning, greenface, attila, red baron, waterloo.

My parents got back from France about half an hour ago, and my dad has brought me Sonata Arctica - Successor and he bought himself Rhapsody - Symphony of Enchanted Lands vol2.

I know what Sonata sounds like, so I've popped Rhapsody into my computer.

And I'm very impressed, it rocks and is alot better than what I thought they'd be like.

Looks like I've found the 2 cd's that'll be blasting down my ears over the next week or so.

Bartender 10-30-2004 04:08 PM

Has anyone here heard Siegfried? I've just been listening to the Drachenherz album..it's not really power metal, by any stretch, but it's got elements in there.

Your dad likes power metal? Ownage.
Your dad likes power metal? Ownage.
My dad introduced me to Dragonforce.

He's more into prog than power metal, but he likes some power metal bands.

manuscriptreplica 10-30-2004 05:59 PM

Yesterday I bought Blind Guardian - Imaginations... my first BG CD! I can't find Night of the Opera anywhere though

You have a cool dad.

arpeggios 10-31-2004 01:45 AM

Anybody here likes Luca Turili? My favorite Luca Turili's song is "Legend of Steel". Awesome!!

Steerpike 10-31-2004 02:10 AM

I have most of the songs off of his first solo album. My favorites are Black Dragon and The Ancient Forest of Elves.

To the wind I will sing
The tale of the king
Who reigned in peace and love
Of the one of the man
Who crossed the paths
Of the ancient forest of elves

arpeggios 10-31-2004 02:36 AM

Cool.. do you know what scales did Turili uses most in his playing?

JMetallica 10-31-2004 02:48 AM

Haha, Ancient Forest Of Elves is the only song i have heard by him and it's pretty bad. But hell, i like it.

PoliticallyIncorrectMetalhead 11-01-2004 04:48 PM

Whats a Dragonforce album that would get me into them?

Brew 11-01-2004 04:56 PM
You have a cool dad.
He's alright, a bit of a twat at times though.

And to the dude above me, I recommend Sonic Firestorm.

PoliticallyIncorrectMetalhead 11-01-2004 05:01 PM

Thanks.
Whats a Dragonforce album that would get me into them?
Well, they only have two, Valley of the Damned and Sonic Firestorm. Both of them are great. I think my favorite is probably Sonic Firestorm if I HAD to pick one of them. Definitely check them out, amazing band.

s0ldsoul4roknrol 11-04-2004 08:14 PM

Well let's talk about another band. Blind Guardian. I was into them, then out of them and now I am back into them. Jeez, whenever I listen to them I just simply feel cool. That's it. Just cool...

MetalNightBodomNight 11-04-2004 08:53 PM

The best power metal albums i have are:
Stratovarius Elements Pt. 1
Sonata Artica Winterhearts Guild
Hammerfall Crimson Thunder

s0ldsoul4roknrol 11-04-2004 10:39 PM

Yeah I'm getting Crimson Thunder soon. I know this has probably been asked somewhere here, but I don't feel like looking. So which Blind Guardian album should I get? Oh and which one has Dark Elf? I really like that song.

Misfitted_Mecha 11-04-2004 10:43 PM

I like each one of those albums, but in this order:
Winterheart's
Crimson
Elements

Dark Elf is off of Nightfall in Middle Earth. That and A Night at the Opera are brilliant albums. I recommend either. The Soulforged is actually the song that a got a friend of mine into them.

Jondur 11-05-2004 03:58 AM

Dunno why I'm bumping this - I hate most power metal. Most of it, quite frankly lacks power. If its too clean and nice then it loses what makes it metal.

However, I must say that Twisted Tower Dire, Ironsword, Ritual Steel are excellent bands - check em out.

anorternsoul84 11-05-2004 08:35 AM

Dragonforce are so good fury of the storm has the funniest chorus ever. Anyone know any bands similar to them?

I quite like that chorus.

For similar speed...try Sonata Arctica and maybe Ensiferum.
It's not that clean and nice...
You gotta be shiting me. Power Metal is gay, and quite proud of it.

Twisted Tower Dire rips by the way!
You gotta be shiting me. Power Metal is gay, and quite proud of it.
Oh sure, just because that Manowar album cover turns you on... ;)

Please find a better adjective than "gay." It's just tired and immature.

Cliff Em All 11-05-2004 05:51 PM
I just discovered Children of Bodom. Those guys eat chains for breakfast. They have long hair and play the ultimate shred guitars: Jacksons. What more can I say. They own.
AHHH COB!!!! theyre great and the have funnny names, what a combo!

on another note, is Nevermore power metal? cuz that**** is POWERFUL

Ir0n_mE 11-05-2004 06:18 PM

Nevermore are kinda Power.
Oh sure, just because that Manowar album cover turns you on... ;)

And why is that? It's a fitting adjective for the genre, both meanings of the word. How fucking politically correct to point out worthless shit like that.

And Manowar covers does indeed rule. Even Into Glory Ride. Sign Of The Hammer is quite possibly one of the coolest metal covers ever made. And definately one of the best Manowar albums.

Brew 11-05-2004 06:45 PM

Manowar were pretty gay, but other power metal bands don't come across as being gay at all.

But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter aslong as the music kicks arse.

Steerpike 11-05-2004 06:57 PM
And why is that? It's a fitting adjective for the genre, both meanings of the word. How fucking politically correct to point out worthless shit like that.
I just think using the word like that is stale, tasteless, and immature. It's not funny, it's not witty, and it's really grautitous considering just how nebulous the English language is. Of course, I was also beginning to think no one around here gave a flying **** what I say, anyway.

And besides that, the only connection Power Metal has to gay subculture is wearing leather and chains, and all metal does that courtesy of Rob Halford who got the look from the England gay bar scene. So calling Power Metal gay isn't politically incorrect, it just doesn't make sense.

You missed my point. YOU are PC. It seems that the best way to come across as semi-intelligent on boards nowadays is to make half-assed remarks about others spelling and/or vocabulary. The language on messageboards has allways been kinda vocal, I mean, who the fuck cares? The worst thing is that you cunts drive threads completely off-topic.

Power Metal is still the gayest sub-genre of metal. It has grown to become pretty damn parodic and melo-dramatic, but there's still a lot of great bands out there. I actually like where things are headed nowadays, it seems that more and more heavy metal inspired bands are entering the scene, and the Stratovarius/Helloween copies are not so frequent anymore.

Steerpike 11-05-2004 08:04 PM

Now you're just getting really assinine. You completely missed my point. I don't give a rat's *** if you think I'm being politically correct, and I'm not trying to look intelligent because honestly I don't have to prove anything to you. I'm secure enough in my own intelligence that I talk however I want, so long as it's within the rules.
The worst thing is that you cunts drive threads completely off-topic.
Okay, dude, seriously. Don't get into a pissing contest with me, I'm not in the ****ing mood.

All I was saying is that I didn't think "gay" was an appropriate word for describing Power Metal. It has nothing to do with being politically correct. In this case, I just don't think it was the right word. I know gay people and they don't see any connection between gay culture and Power Metal.

Does that clear things up?
