It'll take a while though. :) Since i have to look through my DU mails.

Txus 09-12-2006 06:32 PM

I hope this time works because you're missing a great album. A question, Why aren't you in the DU?

That's cool.

I'm not sure. I just think I've been too lazy. I think about when I'm not at the computer, but when I'm sitting in front of it, I've already forgotten about it.

Daven 09-12-2006 07:27 PM

Check your mail, Bjorn.

Tyr 09-13-2006 04:25 AM

Thanks.

Dude, that's awesome. It is a stunning album.

Nepenthe 10-17-2006 10:45 PM

Drought is such a good song.

ATM 10-17-2006 10:52 PM

You guys into Jaga Jazzist?

bucket 10-17-2006 10:58 PM

Yes.

Nepenthe 10-17-2006 11:00 PM

Very much so.

ATM 10-17-2006 11:05 PM

I really love What We Must and then rescently I picked up A Livingroom Hush ( I think thats what its called). Such powerful music.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-17-2006 11:31 PM

How much Pelican do you guys think could possibly be improvised? A song like Aurora Borealis sounds to me like it could be completely impromptou..

Kage 10-17-2006 11:33 PM

The thing about Pelican is that their songs are very dependent on the feel that each instrumentalist puts into their musicianship in order for the songs to build. It's very organic in most cases, which is why they are superior to most bands who have a similar vein of music. As far as improvisation goes, any amount of it could result from what I just described. Who knows?

All I know is that the new song I heard them play live didn't sound nearly as organic, so I was a little upset. They get less brooding with each album.

Spiritofmosa 10-17-2006 11:34 PM

is mew post rock ? how about thom yorke. Thy are all under the same family to me imo.

Kage 10-17-2006 11:35 PM

Thom Yorke? I don't think so.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-17-2006 11:35 PM

Mew is a pokemon if I'm not mistaken.

Spiritofmosa 10-17-2006 11:49 PM

mew is awsome

bucket 10-18-2006 07:28 AM

Mew is not post-rock.

TojesDolan 10-18-2006 10:02 AM

Mew is alternative rock.

And a pokemon.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-30-2006 07:15 PM

So thanks to Kage, I am listening to The Galilean Sattelites by Rosetta right now.

Discuss the grandeur of this band now!

Also, since I don't have the second disc, tell me about it too.

I love Absent. The disgusting chords in the beginning and the transition into that absolutely brutal section..Amazing. Not to mention the drumming, so spastic, so perfect. :p

Moon Flavor 10-30-2006 07:57 PM

I never figured out what was so good about Pelican.

I got Australasia, and maybe I'm not listening close enough, but thing I like in my post rock is amazing mellow melodies that just make you feel like you're having a giant orgasm (see: Jesu, 65dos, Yndi Halda) and I just don't hear any melody worth even keeping in my head when I listen to Pelican.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-30-2006 08:35 PM

I only got around to appreciating Pelican after I focused on the build ups in the songs. There aren't many beautiful melodies and they aren't the most atmospheric band, but for the minimalistic style of post rock they play, it's really astounding what kind of power they can generate.

Kage 10-30-2006 08:58 PM

Rosetta just scratches me right where I itch. I've listened to that CD a million times, and I just get lost in it every time, sometimes I come out of it and I forgot where I was or what I was doing.

Jake's description of Pelican is really good. Listen to that guy.

Sleepy 10-30-2006 09:52 PM

I need Australasia. The Fire in Our Throats was such a sick album.

I've been listening to Godspeed's F#A# (Infinity) album on repeat since late yesterday night.

bwnstl 10-30-2006 09:55 PM

I keep asking Kage for Rosetta but he always ignores me. :( :(

BurningSky 10-30-2006 10:00 PM

The first half of Fire in Their Throats is okay, but I think the highlight of the album is the untitled track 4, and the last two tracks. Pelican really shines when they play mellow stuff. The best part of Australasia is the acoustic track as well...

Back off, man.

I'm really sorry, I never saw it. Or maybe I did, I dunno. Really sorry, though.

But, yeah, Jake, if you could go ahead and forward him those links I gave you, that would be cool.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-30-2006 10:08 PM

Not a problem.
