I have always wanted to go to Cuba :/

Was it nice there? Is it true that you cant go everywere (the poor places) asa tourist?

LambofDeth 03-10-2007 04:33 PM

I haven't been yet, we leave a week Monday.
I do know that there are A LOT of places (and things) we can't do because it is a school trip, but i plan on learning a lot about the place, especially the culture. The musical influences on that cultur are just incredible, i'm SO stoked.

Bajs 03-11-2007 04:28 AM

I modded my Squier today. I was going to buy a new Duncan humbucker for it, but i had this DiMarzio in an old crap guitar that i took instead. Dont know what DiMarzio it is, but its pretty highgain and is probably made in the 80's.

Gonna post pix soon.

Evan, that bass is ****ing hot.

ToG 04-14-2007 06:51 PM

I've sort of half finished my modification of my strat. Now all that remains is a Gold strat trem, gold tuners and to refinish the body.
Now it's already in the body now, it sounds GREAT but i haven't got the money to finish the job as it were. Nor have i expertise in refinishing to all advice would be helpful.

Tell me what you think of the pickguard.

This is the mid build picture i had, before the whole thing got running. I've still got a few issues but it's mainly fine.

The controls are simple, Three tone pots, push pulls for coiltaps, standard 5 way switch and a bridge on switch.Volume pot has a treble bleed capacitor across it so stop tone loss when it's turned down. Sounds not unlike a gibson les paul now, but More so like a tokai. Same growl as a tokai les paul, but still responsive like a strat.

Trevo 04-14-2007 08:18 PM

That pickguard is sweet, but I don't like it that much with color. It would look good with black IMO.

As i said thats to come when i get a job again :P
I was thinking White or Black. It shows up well against the red velvet but i can hardly make a guitar finished in that

Polyamarous 04-15-2007 05:42 AM

cover your guitar in wahtever the PG is lying on in the first picture!
its that a peice of old Tin ceiling? thats awesome.
It's actually a Three ply Black scratchplate but the person i got it from Etched and sprayed it, you can get them online and off ebay quite cheaply. Only problem is that some of the features are a bit tall and need sanded down or they hit the strings.

Son of Magni 05-03-2007 06:57 PM

Ok, I think it's time to bump this thread ;)

/humps my laptop

Have you any tips for wood shopping? i'm wanting mahogany body, maple neck, ebony fretboard and a nice exoticy/grainy wood for the top, something like the one you got on the third one up

Son of Magni 05-04-2007 07:12 AM

The third one from the bottom is Zebrawood. I'm lucky enough to live near a couple of hardwood stores. The best thing is to be able to walk in and pick out boards you like and make sure they're free of knots, cracks, twists, cupping, etc. If there aren't any stores near you then the best place to start is ebay. The prices are a bit high high but you can get anything...

Patrick O))) 05-04-2007 02:32 PM

There's a relatively local (i.e. within 100 miles =/) place that does zebrawood. It's one of the woods I'm looking at, that or koa if I can get it.

Otherwise, I don't think I'm after anything particularly hard to get hold of, so the more nearby places should have them :)

Ta very much

Patrick O))) 05-04-2007 02:33 PM

What top's used on the bottom one and on the third from top?

Son of Magni 05-04-2007 07:43 PM
What top's used on the bottom one and on the third from top?
That is Katalox, but it's a pretty special piece. Never seen another like it :)

purple_hazer 05-07-2007 10:56 PM

holy crap, it looks like a warpes chess board, in the most awesome of ways

Patrick O))) 05-08-2007 11:02 AM

It looks nice, but I'm after more conventional 'liney' grain for my top. I'm going to go for zebrawood if I can get it

Does it stain darker? I guess it will

Flex of the Yellow 05-09-2007 02:38 PM

Quick question for anyone:

When putting new knobs on pots, glue/adhesive substance of some kind to stick them on, or just shove them on?

Son of Magni 05-09-2007 06:59 PM

Definitely no glue. Either friction or a set screw. If there's no set screw and they're too loose then try wrapping a little masking tape around the shaft.
