Did you guys ever noticed that since the SCIENCE album, Incubus has been bringing up new instruments to their songs? On Redefine from SCIENCE there´s a Didjeridoo (sp???), on Nowhere Fast from Make Yourself, there´s a sitar, which sounds great by the way, on Aqueous Transmission from Morning View, you hear the fantastic sound of a Kokyu (sp?) and last but not least, on Here in My Room from A Crow Left of The Murder, there´s a piano. Do you think that they do this consciously, or is it just when they feel like it sounds good? I hope they keep bringing up new and refreshing instruments to their songs, that´s really challenging.

Tons of bands do that. It's just a generic way to experiment, so they don't get bored of doing the same thing over and over.

Hat 04-04-2005 03:10 PM

I can't wait to hear the soundtrack they're doing for that surf documentary. I wonder if that song they use on the bonus ACLOTM dvd and on the intro of http://enjoyincubus.com/ will be something they use for it.

Guitar_Hero 04-05-2005 09:14 PM
Alot of the songs on Make Yourself got them really popular. Stellar and Pardon me or basic songs in a way, But there very catchy.
I think Privilege and Nowhere Fast are the best songs on Make Yourself, they are underplayed and dont get as much dap as Pardon Me, Drive, and Stellar.

I think we'll be the ones to decide that, buddy.

Privilege is a boring song, So i wouldnt expect radio play for that.

Guitar_Hero 04-06-2005 09:05 PM

boring? that riff is awesome, and its just a great song

Sleeper 04-07-2005 02:21 PM

The song is the same thing over and over. Its just a watered down song IMO.

Deth 04-07-2005 06:55 PM

Make Yourself is watered down Incubus period.

pwned.

Sleeper 04-07-2005 07:08 PM

I like to say Make Yourself is there introduction to a more alternative sound.

I Am a Hat 04-07-2005 07:09 PM

Yeah, Make Yourself is my least favorite album. Battlestar is awesome, though.

Deth 04-07-2005 07:10 PM

I would like to say it's the beginning of the downfall.

I'm just being cynical, don't take my comments seriously tonight.

Well, my forvorite stuff by them is the more jam-type stuff, so I think they're next album will be my favorite. They seem to be heading in a more experimental/jamming direction. The soundtrack they're doing for that surf documentary will probably be amazing.

Well there has been many clashes between Old style Incubus fans and new style Incubus fans

There new material will be more like what they did on the Halo project.

Janitor 04-07-2005 07:19 PM
There new material will be more like what they did on the Halo project.
Which new material? Their manager said the next three songs they're releasing are much less free form.

xtheninjax 04-07-2005 07:21 PM
I liked S.C.I.E.N.C.E and Fungus Amoungus. The other stuff is decent, but I don't like it as much.
i agree with this guy *Points* morning view is a great stoned cd as is anything before it, crow left of the murder is a let down. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is strictly for tripping nuts. i.e. shrooms and marijuana

which is awesome. I wish the 4th movement of the odyssey last longer though. It builds up into something so beautiful and then and suddenly cuts out and makes a weird sound. Every time I hear it I get so frustrated.

Sleeper 04-07-2005 07:22 PM

I was talking about a future album, I should of been more specific.

Alot of Incubus fans ascociate Incubus with drugs, In there early work yes. Like Fungus Amongus, But they are a more serious band now IMO. I heard that Dirk Lance didnt do drugs when he was with Incubus.

I learned Speak Free on bass tonight :). I'm out of practice with slapping, so it was petty tough.

Sound Boy 04-08-2005 01:18 PM

Can you play "Hilikus"? if you can, your the ish ... not just for skill but just cause its a badass song

im still working on the ACLOTM cd on bass...i can play all of Make Yourself and Morning View...once i finish that im gonna go try to do the rest of S.C.I.E.N.C.E. cause i only have a few of them memorized

The new cd has some tricky bass in it. Not so much on the technical side, just memorising all the different parts.

Thats a crazy opening bass riff in the beggining.

I always loved the bass on that cd, The bass line for 'talk shows on mute' is a great solid riff.

Yep, I can play Hilikus. It's probably the easiest track off the album.

And the speak free verse is hella tough.

Sleeper 04-08-2005 08:25 PM

I looked at the tabs for speak free, I could never pull that off on bass :(

classicrockielzpfvh 04-11-2005 03:34 PM

Here's a new idea... instead of your favorite song outta eveything how bout your favorite track on each record... ??
