Flux of Pink Indians - Some of Us Scream, Some of Us Shout

Starts off witha quick drum roll then into the guitar chords, very simple sounding so far, like most anarcho. The vocals come in, some of it is hard to understand, but I can pick up some of it. The singer has the strong british anarcho accent going on. But overall it is better than say Crass' way of doing anarcho I think. Musically the whole song is the same but the lyrics are the main focus. I had to look them up to get the full feel though. The song is about being lied to, that we are convinced one thing is better then something else that is actually easier or better in the long run, and that facts are hidden from us. It's a good song with a good message. I enjoy FoPI more than most other anarcho bands because their music is a bit more entertaining

I'm the elitist of science or something. It's really amazing what this guy can do I guess. There is hardly any beat but he is speaking (?) really fast. From what I can hear he is basically bragging about how he knows a lot about Science and that we need more in society. He raps sort of like a jerk, but that's kind of typical. It keeps going like that and I really don't like this song. It's a good experience to listen to I guess, but it's kind of annoying to hear some guy brag about how much he knows about Science. I guess I lost respect for him a bit.

It takes a while for me to realise that the song has started as it begins with a seemingly random sequence of drum-beats and guitar-chords. When it finally becomes recognisable as a song it's pretty cool. It's very off-the-wall with a really cool basslines. There's a fast section with a typical male anarcho vocalist before a female vocalist comes in the mellower section which almost sounds industrial in parts and features some weird sound-effects I can't quite identify. There's a cool call-and-response section between the two vocalist here. This is a very weird song. It reminds me of the Dresden Dolls slightly in that it gives the impression of being slightly out-of-control like the musicians don't quite know what's happening. There's a big drum-roll build-up into silence then some more weird industrial style backwards sounding sound-effects. This song is only two-minutes long and is quite low-tempo in parts but the out-of-control feel makes it feel as it's over before it's even hardly begun. It's an interesting song and I enjoyed it even if you do have to constantly try and keep up with what's happening. If you like something different with your punk then this is the song for you. 8/10

I'm finally checking out this song and I'm extremely curious to what it's like so anyway. It starts off with a really low guitar and the lead singer saying stuff. Then it opens with "you ain't hardcore man." Dead Kennedys would be like "what the hell?" If they heard this. It's all slow and kind of cool when they use the effect where they scream and it's just the computer. I love this Dead Kennedys song and I have to say I couldn't hate a cover with the same lyrics but slower so you can understand them better. This is definitely an interesting and cool cover, I don't think I download anymore of her stuff but this is definitely a good song. I mean honestly, could you give a Dead Kennedys cover a bad rating? The ending is kind of cool, I like the guitar strumming and effect. She starts coughing and sort of like a choking noise in the end. Then she goes "nazi punks" and repeats that and echoes at the end.

It took me about three seconds to realise that this song is absolutely awful. It's the sort-of over-produced indie-pop that is beloved by thirtysomething marketing managers called Steve who like to think they're still 'with it'. You can see them singing along with their eyes-closed to this on the way to work in their Mondeo. Hopefully there won't be a lull in oncoming traffic when they lose control as they're 'feeling it' on one particularly whiny and obnoxious strained vocal and swerve over the central resevation taking this music with them. It's designed to be completely inoffensive and thus is utterly hateful. Ball-less, soul-less, devoid of any kind of emotion whatsoever. This song couldn't be any more emotionless if it was written by a computer with Attachment Disorder. It's all there: the strained vocals, the plinky-plonk piano, the folky guitars, the overblown drums. Every one of the people involved in the making off this song should be forced to deepthroat a shotgun. I can only hope Sam suggested this song as a joke. It represents everything I despise in music today. Do not listen to this song. If you find yourself enjoying this sort of music, hang yourself before you start reading NME and telling everyone how 'deep' your 'feelings' are on your Livejournal. If this song was a colour it would be beige. It's bland with a capital B. It's seriously as bad as Coldplay. This is a despicable, abominable, detestable, execrable, odious, atrocious, dire, dreadful, horrendous, unspeakably bad excuse for a song. It sucks. Hard. Now I need to go listen to some proper music to recover. Where's my DK albums? 0/10

I'm excited to do Dave's FL because he has good music. It stars off with basic chords and then the vocals come in and i'm immediately surprised. He sounds exactly like Dick Lucas. It's really good so far and it keeps the same chords but it's still pretty slow, I hope it gets faster. It stops for a bit, then goes back into the same chords as the beginning. The lyrics seem to be pretty ace. The same chords stay the same with an occasional octave the dude did. It has a pretty long time of just guitar with the same chords. Then the backing guitar which definitely makes the song a lot better. It does that for awhile then stops and goes back to the original chords that it did in the beginning. This is really good anarcho and i'll probably d/l more from Dave. It would've been better if it was a bit faster. Good stuff. This is my kind of music.

Evil Robot Us' - Always The Quiet Ones

Ok I chose this one because I don't listen to much folk-punk so yeah. The song uses an acoustic guitar (obviously) to play punk styled chords instead of the normal distorted electric guitar. Seems to me like there is bongo drums or something like them keeping the rythmn, I like it. I can't really make out the lyrics, but I dislike the girl singers voice. Then the clapping comes in, and the mix gets all weird, the volume goes from quite to loud after the chorus, (maybe its my headphones?). Then it ends abruptly, it seems like the ending was out of place.

I wanted to check out more of No Wave, so this worked out well with F.L. It starts off with this annoying kind of buzzing like something you'd hear from Flux's The F'ucking C'unts... It continues and it has like a scratchy noise in the background. Then it starts to get more instrumental and I really like the guitar that comes in. It's way more rock-like now. The lyrics come in and they sort of sound back room but I surprisingly really like them. The same noise continues, but the guitar is definitely a better addition. "Moving on, moving on." Having listened to Flux's album these irrating noises ARE NOTHING compared to Flux's and I actually like listening to it. It ends in guitar aftermath. I'll check more out sometime.

I havent listened to much fusion in the last few months, maybe this song will help me get back into it. This particualr song is built around bass as the name would suggest. Not sirprisingly the song starts off with an awesome sounding bassline, its so good I think I'll have to tab it sometime. Then an alto sax I think (maybe wrong, I'm in no way an expert on this stuff) chimes in with a basic variation of the bassline. Eventualy, it turns into a bass solo with some ace drumming in the backround. Now the sax comes back in and brings the whole rythmn back together, I'd have to say overall that is one of the songs with the coolest rythmns ever.

I've heard this band awhile ago and I don't recall much from them. I have been wanting to hear them for awhile especially since a friend likes them a lot. It stars off with bongo like drums and an awesome light solo like guitar. I'm into it already. "Sometimes it seems like the worlds full of question, and it has no answers at all." I'm liking the lyrics more than i thought i would. The lyrics are okay, but they aren't the best. The echo (backing vocals) sound pretty cool. The same bongo drums and guitar riff or pluck is continuing. The echoes are very abundant in this song and it makes it better I guess because I don't really like the singer much to begin with. I want to play guitar now. The solo starts and it is very grunge-like, deep and monotone but very cool sounding, I guess because of the effects. The bongo drums still continue and I really like the idea of it because the drums go extremely well with the guitar. The guitar starts to change up a bit and gets way more versatile. The backing vocals tend to sound like a female sometimes, they may be but I don't know. This song is very repetitive in the sense that it has the same music and same sounding music over and over. It's too long, I think. It's pretty diverse but not varied what-so-ever. "open our eyyyyes up." It's hard to understand most of the lyrics but they seem above-average especially for this type of band. About 55 seconds left in the song this awesome solo comes up and not only brings your interest back in the song but definitely gives it a positive recover. This solo is what they need more of in their song. The same bongo-like drums continue as they have the entire song. It fades out with the solo similar to the one they featured earlier in the song and then it's done. This definitely was what I expected except more versatility, which it did not have. Good song though.

There's a short sound-clip before the music. It's very downbeat. A mellow bassline and slow drumbeat with blasts of heavily distorted guitars at the forefront. The vocals come in and they're pretty cool. They're a lot punchier than the music and lyrics might suggest. At around 1:10 the song goes into a really cool riff leading into the chorus which again is pretty downbeat but it stills sounds cool. This is all certainly a lot different from the Jawbreaker i've heard previously. It goes back into another verse. There's a pretty cool melody on the guitar that complements the vocals well. After the second chorus there's a change in the music. It's slightly faster than before though still pretty downbeat before going into the chorus and fading out with the same person speaking as at the start (it sounds a bit like Christopher Walken.) This is a cool song. It sounds quite familiar but despite it's five minute length and overall familiarity it manages to avoid becoming boring. 8/10

Sizzla-Subterranean Homesick Blues

I choose this song cause a reggae cover of a Dylan song sounded intresting. Like I expected a catchy reggae beat starts off the song, nothing flashy just basic reggae. The lyrics seems to start from the middle of Dylan's song, I'm impressed by the vocals, fast like the original with a reggae twist. Then it ends abruptly. Joe told me its the way its supposed to be. Only 33 seconds but I was impressed, as Jello once said "I like short songs.".

The music comes in and I like it, the vocals however are very weird, I could picture this guy having a clown nose and being butt naked. Anyway, I really like the bass in this band, the music is very FUNK, IN YOUR FACE kind of style. I like it especially when there's a bit of a jam and no singing because it added immense diversity to the song. Which was definitely needed. This band is more interesting than anything, they are ok. The guy's voice lowers and he mutters some more stuff about religion that I think is pretty cool. It goes into a cool guitar/horn solo or something like a horn (maybe a bugle). Kool and the Gang - Hollywood Swinging

Haha, I didn't recognize the name when I picked this song but now that I'm listening to it I know it's one of those crazy songs that you hear in crappy 70's movies. The song opens up with some horns and at first they give the impression that the song isn't that upbeat, but then they go dun Dun DUN! And everything's happy!! Hey Hey Hey! Whatcha got to say? The bassline in very simple but really catchy. Anyone would recognize the chorus because I'm sure it's been in numerous movies. "Hollywoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood.. Swinging!" The song pretty much ends around 2:30, I thought the horns doing a different thing was going to be a bridge but it was just an intro to the rest of the song, which is basically the whole bands saying Hollywood Swinging and other jibberish, accompanied by the horns occasionally along with the bassline constantly playing what I think is:

It starts off pretty mellow with a steady drumbeat and some pretty cool guitars with some guy speaking over it saying "This is no manifesto, this is no propaganda." which makes it sound like te rest of the song will be a propaganda-filled manifesto. After this there's a pretty cool melody on the guitar that sounds a bit like a downbeat indie song before someone shouts "Hey!" and goes straight into classic ska with the title repeated a few times before a brief verse then the chorus. All this is in jumping ska at breakneck speed. It's a bit more chilled out on the verse though. After this repeats a couple of times it goes in to another spoken-word section which has cool music but does sound slightly cheesy before going back into the ska and finishing with shouts of "Third world!" This was a cool song which combined the two styles within the song well. 8/10

I did this because because of Randy Turners passing, plus I love the Big Boys. Ok the song starts off with a few un-distorted guitar chords and a driving bassline. A group of people in the backround going Whoaa oh everytime Randy says something. Its a pretty upbeat song, with a pretty anthemic chorus. A very traditional guitar solo is followed by the chorus. The lyrics seems to be about taking money, I've never been good at hearing lyrics so I can't really tell. this is definatly one of the Big Boys tamer songs, and also one of their better ones.

The song starts with a really cool bassline with guitars that are so distorted they almost sound like white noise in the background. It's got a really cool rhythm to it. Then this all fades away to just a simple drumbeat with two lines of vocals. The vocals were pretty cool although slightly nonsensical in parts. There were some great lines like "He's got his 8-track playin' really ****in' loud" and "She's wearin' his bootprint on her forehead" and they're delivered with real venom which makes them sound a lot better. After just a couple of lines of vocals it goes back into the intro section and repeats this. The third time it repeats the vocals are really quiet and into a different section that's more incomprehensibel in it's lyrics. Something about 'fish fry' but the music sounds cool anyway. It's very avant garde and out-of-control. It leads back into the intro again. There's some more screamed lyrics here over the crazy rolling rhythm before the song ends. This was a cool song. It may have been post-hardcore but it wasn't too avant-garde. A cool song.

It goes on for a pretty long time, then the guitar and the horn mix. I really like it so far. Then it just goes to bass and drums and the singing comes in. The singing is pretty decent but I like the backup vocals that echo him occasionally. "The final countdown!" There really isn't much music when the vocalist sings for the most part. After a brief build-up the song goes straight into some great rolling ska. This changes to more jumpy ska when Dick Lucas' distinctive vocals come in. He has an unconventional voice for ska but, as with Citizen Fish, it works. The lyrics are pretty standard Dick Lucas but they're pretty cool. This song reminds me of the ska section in The Toy Dolls' Cheatin' Chick From China. After about 2 minutes there's a slow downbeat section which contrasts nicely before going straight back into the great ska with some great group vocals. This is a great son. I wanted to check out the new Against Me! stuff as there's been a lot of talk about them selling out. I thought this was a load of crap as in terms of turning your back on your existing fans, playing a couple of arena shows is hardly up there with Dylan going electric, is it? So the song starts with a brief drumbeat and then the guitars come in. Wait a minute, these are ELECTRIC guitars. It IS Dylan goes electric. Anyway the music is fairly standard pop-punk. There's a mini solo that sounds pretty familiar. The vocals kick-in. This doesn't really sound like Against Me! at all. It's good punk stuff but not up there with Against Me's previous stuff. The vocals seem too shouty and macho, there's only a hint of the tenderness and passion from their other stuff. The lyrics are all about selling out and that sort of thing. They do say you should write about what you know. Seriously, I don't think Against Me! have sold out. This is a good song and in parts you could here the brilliance of AM! of old shining through. They're just expanded their musical vision but expanding it into fairly run-of-the-mill stuff. The riffs sound like The Ramones in parts. The solo reminds me of The Offspring. I though this song was perfectly fine but I'll reserve judgement on Against Me! overall until I've heard the rest of their stuff. When you set such high standards for yourself as they did with Reinventing Axl Rose people expect a bit more than a standard singalong pop-punk tune. 7/10

The lyrics come in, and they are pretty garbled. The lead singer has a nice voice, but her english is pretty shaky. The song goes into a bridge, then changes keys. They repeat everything, then go into another breakdown. Then they just keep going "CYCLING IS FUN HEY HEY YEAH YEAHHEY YEAH CYCLING", you get my drift?

All in all, an ok song, but kinda too happy.
6/10.

There's a nice heavy intro before it goes into a pretty standard punk-riff before some says "It's gone for good" and the vocals kick-in. They're fairly standard punk vocals, fast and angry. So far, so average. At about 30 seconds they're a really weird cool solo that makes the song a lot more interestin before it goes back into the standard punk stuff. This is a pretty average song. It's only 1:16 long so there's not much you can say about it. 6/10

The song commences with very awesome guitar chords. "We are the leaders of tomorrow!" The leader is a female and sings beautifully in my opinion. "We are not Jesus Christ! We are not fascists! We are not capitalists! We are not communists! We are the one!" I really like the lyrics and the backing vocals are a better addition. The chorus is my favorite part of the song. The continual chord strumming lasts throughout the entire song with an occasional solo. The song ends with her chanting "We are the one!" This repeats until the song ends. I enjoyed this song very much and will probably download the rest of the album. It's a very well done song by an extremely solid punk rock band.

This starts of with a classic pop-punk riff before the bass and drums kick-in. It's catchy but not outstanding. Then the vocals come-in. They sound slightly like Dave Vanian. The lyrics are less innuendo than graphic descriptions of what the protagonist of the song wants to do to some girl. There are some quite funny lines. The music is catchy throughout and there's a nice solo after a couple of verses. This song is hardly the most mature song in the world but if you're a fan of bands like the Macc Lads or just like catchy pop-punk music you'll probably enjoy it. This song is Macc Lads-lite. 6/10

It beings with a very awesome guitar line and drumming part. Then it gets really fast and the singer comes in a bit after it speeds up. The singer sings very fast but has a light voice. It sounds nice but I like the beginning introduction guitar more. It has the same chords with an occasional back-up riff which makes the song way more enjoyable to listen to. It's hard to understand the lyrics, so I can't say whether I like them or not. It then goes back into the breakdown it had in the beginning. I really liked this song because it had really good parts and was very short.

This starts off with a quite riff before a much louder one and a brief pause before the song with the vocals kick in properly. The music is catchy and the vocals are really cool as they're agressive but not too shouty with some mellow background vocals. This song makes good use of dramatic pauses throughout the song particularly in the chorus when all the music cuts out except for a simple drumbeat. It's an old technique but it works well. The riffs throughout the are really cool. There's a pretty decent solo at one point too. This song was really cool. It will appeal both to people who like Epitaph/Fat Wreck stuff and those who less mainstream stuff. 9/10
