I'll name 10 guitarists (not in order of skill) that he could never play as well as to prove he's not that great Jimi Hendrix Jimmy Page SRV Eric Clapton Steve Vai Eddie Van Halen Duane Allman David Gilmour Santana Martin Barre |
Angus isn't necessarily known for his guitar talent. The thing that makes him a legend is his stage presence. Who else thought up the duck walking, crazy-ness of his performances? That's why AC/DC is known, not that the music is bad, but because of his stage antics.
Actually Angus got the duck-walk from Chuck Berry. AC/DC has a lot of influences much like a lot of other bands. The band is very proud of being repetitive, as would I. Not many bands can stick around for 30 years and NEVER change their sound. They also went through losing one of the best singers ever back in '80. And never lost a beat on getting cd's out. AC/DC may not be as talented as other bands, but their is just something about them that keeps them together and staying on the stage. |
It is all opinion where you think guitarists should be ranked. I personally think Angus is better than half the guitarists listed above. And I have to be honest that I have not heard a couple of them. EVH he is right up there with Angus but EVH does a lot with distortion and the whammy bar. Page is better. Clapton and SRV I have the same problem as I do with EVH (not so much SRV). The rest I know are good but personally I don't like them too much. But Hendrix. Way too heavy on the distortion and whammy. I like Hendrix and he is good but the sound just blends and melts together.

they wouldve been a great band to see in the aussie clubs. dunno about their records
|
every song u just listed is crap apart from riff raff and jailbreak
thanks for the positive imput  , care to list why they are crap instead of just stating some opinionated information with no back up. |

Since when does running a mostly clean channel directly through a marshall and "not using a whammy or distortion" have any relevance to skill at guitar? As I mentioned, Angus does use SG's with vibratos (not on all songs). |
AC/DC is a unique band, in the sense that even though their songs sound that same, and are based around the same chords, they are still awesome. And Angus Young is a pretty **** good guitarist.

So they're unique because they sound similar? Oh, OK. |

OMG UR RITE Jimi Hendrix's popularity is solely based on the fact that he did drugs! What do you deduce for us next, that Joe Satriani is only popular because he's bald? |
im saying its a populatity contest plus like in jimi's case now also u have to point out there are some artist up there that i do admit are better than angus such as jimmy page hes totally talented but angus is really good and should be up on the top ten guitarist list even if u dont like acdc u have to admit to play a song like thunderstruck or the very rapid solo on whole lotta rosie (live) takes much skill
|
Thunderstruck is not that difficult.
http://www.mxtabs.net/tabs.php?path=Guitar,a,24,Ac%2Fdc,Thunderstruck+Tab,185516 One string hammer-ons at the beginning, and a moderate solo. http://www.mxtabs.net/tabs.php?path=Guitar,j,5547,Jimi+Hendrix+Experience,Voodoo+Child+%28slight+Return%29,184037 Yeah...gg. Not to mention Jimi sings at the same time, and was a much more well rounded musician. Angus is limited to one-dimensional, predictable solos, and is lucky that Malcolm knows how to write and hold things together. |
watch the music video and try to keep up with that finger work it takes practice i bet he did it until he was pro the finger movment is perfect with only one stroke are u telling me u could play that song just as well as angus young i find that hard to believe (no offence not saying ur a crappy guitarist or anything)

The finger tapping part at the beginning is not hard at all. I was watching my friends 14 year old brother do it on the weekend. It's not that complicated...look at some stuff by John Petrucci or Rusty Cooley. or this: http://www.mxtabs.net/tabs.php?path=Guitar,s,1306,Steve+Vai,Crossroads+Duel,147343 Now THAT is hard. |
sure u were and micheal jackson is still a man
sure u were and micheal jackson is still a man
Why, you have trouble playing a basic tapping sequence on one string? Thunderstuck is usually one of the first things people learn on guitar, it's an easy, fun song to play. |
Everytime I come into this thread the discussion is about Thunderstruck's intro. To clear it all up. Yes, it is easy as hell to play. Yes, Angus picked every note of it on the studio version. And yes, he did sometimes live/you can play it with one hand if you so choose.
|
if it is sooo easy as hell to play how come skilled cover bands that have made cd's and most of thier covers sound good try to play thunderstruck but it sounds like crap
how come it always sounds off like the sequence is off or the timing its not as easy as u think u may think ur playing it but infact i bet ur playing somthing similar to it but not quite it the timing might not be right u might get tired or maybe its just wrong but the fact is no one that ive heard has been able to play it well it always sounds bad and if u know of an artist who has succesfully copied it i would be intrested to find out who |
Let me ask you something chief, do you even play guitar? If not your arguement is completely flawed. If you do, really, just go and try to play it, it is not hard I can assure you. And not hard to play it correctly at that.
|
Yes Thunderstruck is easy. And Paranoidd if your just goin to post about how crap AC/DC is then piss off.
|
