Hah...

It was such a fun class...at least it incited intelligent discussion and provoked thought. Beats the hell out of economics. *shudder*

I find that if you mention stuff like that, people look shocked, but then become quite interested. And I'm not doing A levels, but the Baccalaureate (sp?) instead. The only problem with that is, I can only do 2 of economics, philosophy, history and economics, which are all subjects I really want to do.
Oh okay. Let me know what you end up choosing to do.

My only experience with actual philosophy lessons was horrible. Firstly, it was a compulsory class, for a third of the school year, so only 5 people were wanting to actually discuss the subject; the other 15 or so were just there because they had to be.

Secondly, the teacher was a languages teacher who fancied himself as a philosophy teacher (the actual philosophy teacher, an absolute legend called Dr Roffe, left the previous year to teach English in France). The material we talked about was interesting, and the written material he gave us was good enough, but I was amazed at how he managed to make such a potentially interesting subject so dull/inept.

Still, I read books, so I'm still interested in the actual subject.

I'd never have begun writing a book if I didn't take philisophy class. My class was great...some days I'd sleep because I worked 9 hours the night before, and the teacher would be like "Rob wake up" and I'd say "well sir, I believe that everything is subjective. This being so, I don't know if you are real or Tn fact, this is too much for me to handle right now, so I'll just put my head down." ZzzZZZz.

Teacher stood there with mouth open and chalk in his hand for like 10 seconds. 0wned.

I've done that sort of thing, made the teacher hate me for the rest of the year.

Paranoidd 08-18-2004 09:41 AM

Yeah that was nothing though...my school was pretty ghetto. Guy I know got expelled for sexually harassing a teacher. Teacher got fired for throwing a chair at this guy because the guy said "hey sir, could I bang your wife?". The guy didn't get in trouble though

Teacher: "tuck in your shirt" (I went to catholic school, we had uniforms)
Student: "Fcuk you sir."
Teacher: "Go to the office."
Student: "Whatever, I'm going to go smoke a joint."
Teacher: "Fine, just get out."

It's not just for the projects anymore kids...even in suburban middle class Canada...

I hate going to a religious school, not only do they push religion down your throats but they're so strict about everything you can barely walk down a corridor without getting pulled. We do make a thing of asking one teacher wether he's hit, or sold his baby on Ebay  There's barely any teachers that will let you get away with anything. And they all think I'm either suicidal or a Satanist.

Paranoidd 08-18-2004 09:55 AM

It's funny though because you don't have to be catholic to go to a catholic school. so I had school with athiests, muslims, sikhs, everything. And there was a religion class. Imagine all these people having catholicism homework. Too funny.

I had one amazing religion teacher, and only because it was "world religion" (as opposed to looking up bible passages, we were learning about all the religions around the world.) I showed up 45 minutes late every single day, slept in class, and still got a 92%. I loved that guy.

I'm sure our RE techer is a paedophile, he asks people if they chew their lips in their sleep and what they've got under their shirts (this was a girl). He also HAS to be right, about everything even if everyone including him knows he's made it all up, all we ever talk about is Christianity except when he goes off on a tangent about his life (we have about 5 differing reports on his birthplace all from him). I know people who used to be Christians nd have been completely put off by religious schools so I personally don't believe in them.

Paranoidd 08-18-2004 10:23 AM

If I was a high school teacher, I'd definitely bang seniors for "extra credit."

Well, she was 14 at the time. How old's a senior? I never understood foreign classes.

halfdeadhippo 08-18-2004 10:38 AM

Seniors are 17-18.

Paranoidd 08-18-2004 11:03 AM

I look at chicks ages from this perspective: If there is grass on the field, play ball.

Dancin' Man 08-18-2004 11:44 AM

Don't let that slip to the pit....there could be serious problems (cods, ramsey)

Paranoidd 08-18-2004 11:45 AM

cods, ramsey?

What are those?

Paranoidd 08-18-2004 12:18 PM

I just got a customer at work named Jason Becker. That was so trippy.

BludgeonySteve 08-18-2004 12:19 PM

Nice. I once knew a guy called Jason ;) He liked nu metal and burning things. I don't like him :(

Dancin' Man 08-18-2004 12:24 PM

theclash91 08-18-2004 12:49 PM

i'm learning classical thump right now

Bartender 08-18-2004 01:39 PM

Who doesn't enjoy burning things? As long as they're not live things, or large things being burnt down, it's huge amounts of fun.

lilpete86 08-18-2004 01:44 PM

I don't come on MX for a day and this springs up to 18 pages without me :upset:

And on the topic of burning things, there is NOTHING more fun than good old arson :p

Bartender 08-18-2004 01:45 PM

BBQs are great fun as well. We had one to celebrate/commiserate the end of sixth form, about 20-odd of us, and myself and a friend of mine (who also likes burning things), experimented with cooking various things on the grill.

BludgeonySteve 08-18-2004 01:47 PM
a hah FIGURES. my theory stays true
Nicely done ;)

Dancin' Man 08-18-2004 01:47 PM

I can light a fire in my mouth. I am cool for that. All you need a normal butane lighter and to know how to close off your throat.

Bartender 08-18-2004 01:52 PM
Various things including... :p
Well, we were cooking burgers for food, but soon got bored with that, so we tried cooking the buns as well. Then we tried cooking the burgers already in the buns, but that didn't work too well. We cooked a lichee (no idea of the spelling) fruit for about 3 hours, and it was still surpisingly nice afterwards.

Pretty much anything of low enough value was cooked at some point. We had a speary-prongy thing for lifting and prodding what was cooking, and I snapped the handle.

EDIT: oh, we also cooked a sausage for the same three hours as that fruit..we could use it to write in charcoal on the wall afterwards.

lilpete86 08-18-2004 01:52 PM

Have you ever tried jumping a fire when drunk???

Don't do it :upset:
