But that eighth song off "()," man...seriously. In some hardcore circles this song is entitled "The Pop Song" but the title is just Sigur Ros's weird humor. The song is unbelievable. Hey Kaden, do you have that? Maybe you know what I'm talking about.
I wrote that review right after I got (). My opinions on it have since changed, and I wouldn't give any song less than a 7/10. Untitled #8 is now my favorite song off the album. I constantly have the opening guitar line stuck in my head...

Opeth is a cool band [/disguised bump]

Det_Nosnip 08-27-2004 11:52 AM

*cough* Opeth rocks *cough*

This thread needs to be official, IMO.

Currently listening to Blackwater Park at work. I'm curious, does anyone know where I could find tabs or lyrics for "Into the Frost of Winter", the bonus track from Orchid?

lunchbox225 08-27-2004 12:13 PM

Meh, I've never seen the big deal about Deep Purple. Them and The Doors, those are the two bands that everyone loves that I've never gotten into.

Sabbath is awesome though.

About half the riffs in that song ended up being used in other songs, so just look at tabs from the final places they ended up.

Maneatingbrick 08-27-2004 11:16 PM

Opeth rule, i love the way go from real hard death metal stuff to acoustic melodys. My favourite song from them at the moment is "Master aprentices" that song rules and the part with the clean vocals gives me chills everytime i listen to it.
and what has time got to do with it?
There are ALREADY at this time so many genres, that more will not even need to be created in the future. That was how time was involved in my point.

I have yet to hear all Opeth songs, and don't know which took the riffs. Would you happen to know which songs they used them in?

Looks like this thread is in need of a bumping!

/bumps it more discretely than Kaden ever could.

So how about that In the Mist She Was Standing outro riff? Pretty sweet huh?

Cardboard Headgear 09-05-2004 08:12 PM

I started d/ling a video bootleg of Opeth an Opeth show from 96, I really want the thing to finish but they guy I'm getting it from is NEVER online. All I've got so far is Johan (I think, crowd member instead?) saying "You're such a ****ing ***** Mike."

craggyisland 09-05-2004 08:14 PM

Is it the show they played in Ashton-under-Lyme (I think), 17/06/96? I got that, it's pretty good. Might not be the same one though.

Cardboard Headgear 09-05-2004 08:25 PM

Yeah, that's it.

Kaden 09-05-2004 08:39 PM

I got Blackwater Park a couple days ago, and I have to say it's so amazing. I was surprised by how intense it was; I was expecting even the heavy sections to be so much more mellow after listening to Deliverance, but I knew right from the start (with The Leper Affinity) that it wasn't gonna be that way. I'm now making it my mission to get every Opeth album as quickly as possible, I can easily see these guys becoming my favorite band.

Big-Bird 09-05-2004 08:43 PM

I think My Arms, Your Hearse is heavier than Blackwater Park.
I think My Arms, Your Hearse is heavier than Blackwater Park.
In ways it is...but to me, Blackwater is overall, their best album. The more traditional fans (guys who have listened to them since the beginning) think Morningrise is the best and the heaviest.

I don't see Opeth is that heavy, they have heavy moments...like 2 minutes in on Forest of October (I think that's the song)...they got A LOT more progressive and, therefore, in my opinion...a thousand times better :)

Kaden 09-05-2004 09:43 PM

w00t! Here comes the pwnage train! About 20 minutes ago I came across four Ebay auctions that had all been put up by the same seller, and they all were set to end at exactly the same time. They were for the first four Opeth albums, and guess who won every auction? ME, BITCH!!!

Orchid, MAYH, and Still Life all went with no one else bidding but me. However, I did have to fight a guy to get Morningrise (the one I wanted most) and ended up paying 10 bucks for it, $7.50 for the others.

IvortheEngineDriver 09-05-2004 09:53 PM

Dude, go to Theendrecords.com...they have cheap CD's...I got all 4 early Opeth CD's for 44 bucks

That's a good site, but not even they have De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, which I've looked everywhere for.

EDIT: Dude, the Opeth cd's they have there are definitely more expensive than the ones I'm getting. I'm getting brand new copies too.

bob the ripper apple. 09-05-2004 10:15 PM

opeth is the best band in the history of mankind. sorry just had to put my 2 dollars in.

bob the ripper apple. 09-05-2004 10:17 PM

im always looking for new music... so... whether they be old or new... other than opeth... who is the best metal band in that categorie... ( of opeth esque music)

Omega Red 09-05-2004 11:19 PM

i listened to ****ation. i really like it.. are there anyother albums that i should check out

bucket 09-05-2004 11:35 PM

D*mnation is NOTHING like their other albums. In mostly every Opeth song there is some acoustic passages and nice vocals, but a great portion is a death metal type dealy.

Blackwater Park is pretty well balanced with heavy/soft stuff, but if you're opposed to heavy metal, than you might want to hold off of Opeth's other works.

Det_Nosnip 09-06-2004 01:57 AM

So, how about "Lamentations," the DVD? I think it's a stunning video, great watch, although I'll admit I was diasapointed that the set was all new stuff. I heard that it had something to do with copyrights laws due to the fact that all of the albums before BWP were on a different label...?

Anyways, the band is disgustingly tight and dead on throughout the video, and it's definetly cool to see that they can pull everything off live (Deliverance, anyone?).

I don't think it was copyrights, I heard that they could have put older stuff on if they wanted, but the label didn't want to promote albums that were put out by a different label.

And I agree, it's a sick DVD. I especially love their performance of that one ****ation song, I can't think of the name right now, but it's the one that goes "Heal myself, a shadow on my heart" or something like that. That's my favorite song from ****ation, and I loved the extended version on the DVD.

bball_1523 09-06-2004 07:07 PM

I wish they woulda played older songs too, but the dvd is alright. I'd rather have went to their concert though that I missed last year.
