Bump.
Barthender, if you briefly explain me how to use that "Soulseek" thing, I'll dibs. |
Well, go to www.slsknet.org and download it, set it up and everything.
Then, there's a blank box (your User List) in the top right hand corner. Click on that, and some new buttons should appear with the tabs along the top of the program. Click Add New User, enter the name of the user you want to add (Kanadarius, in this case), and Kanadarius should appear in the blank box. If I'm online (blue thing next to my name instead of red thing), right click the name and select Browse Files. Then you can find any song you like from my files and double click it to download. Otherwise, click File Search from amongst those tabs at the top, and a new window called File Search should appear. Search for whatever you like in there, and press enter/click search. Once results start to come up, download one - the ones in light grey are queued and will take longer, the ones in black should start downloading straight away. More songs (more well-known this time), in the meantime; Megadeth - Dread and the Fugitive Mind Faith No More - Crack Hitler Jane's Addiction - Ocean Size Remember, only if you haven't heard them before, and preferably the songs I listed before anyway. |

Janes Addiction - Ocean Size
Starts off with an acoustic intro, something like a minor scale sorta thing. A semi-scream, and the guitar comes in. A cool riff. Oh my god, whats wrong with this guys voice? Its like Courtney love had a sex change. The drumming is very normal, lots of cymbals, nothing exciting. The guitar riff is good though. Alot of the same stuff with some variations. Stops a bit for an acoustic part. back agin to the electric. then the solo. Which is cool.... but again, nothing really fancy. My god, the vocals put me off. Its a very 'normal' rock song, if you know what i mean. Nothing fancy. The end is cool, very upbeat, the guitar soloing in the background sounds really really, and the voice sounds good here because of the style the music is playing to. I like the end, a lot, it really does the song good. Overall: 5.5/10, the end saved it. Songs: Zao - Autopsy (death metal) Tool - Stink Fist (progressive metal) Nine Inch Nails - Wish (Industrial metal) The Allman Brothers Band - Statesboro Blues (...Blues!) DVG. |

Tool - Stink Fist
As my avatar suggests I kinda like Tool, so I'm not sure if I should really do this one, but I've never checked out anything other than their work on Lateralus. (gasp!). So here's to finding out whether this is as good... Cool intro, is it a guitar? I'm not sure. Some feedback now and the first chords. Has a nice groove. Maynards voice is quite low in the mix, but the passion he has shows through. The song becomes louder (pre-chorus) and then the chorus. It shifts time signiture in one of the bars (I think, one of the bars sounds a bit different). Cool. I like the riff a lot. It's quite a catchy song. Another chorus and a bass interlude with some whiote noise wrenched from the guitar. Now it's just bass and tom drums, sounds good. The guitar comes in playing a solo of sorts (Tool arent known for conventional solos!). Maynard returns for a jubilant part at around the four minute mark. The more gritty side to maynards voice is bought into play in a heavier part featuring a lot of rakes on the guitar. One more chorus and it's now the outro: bass and drums form a stable rhythm for the guitar to create strange noises over. The song then fades out. Overall: Very good, not a part I didn't enjoy and it lived up to my expectations set by Lateralus. It sounded very much like the band but there were a couple of differences which made it fresh. 10/10 Would I Listen To More Of The Band? Well seeing as I'm already a big Tool fan yes, I would. So I'm off to get Aenima now. Bye!!! My songs... Monster Magnet - Power Trip (New Classic Rock) The Dillinger Escape Plan - Pig Latin (Math Metal with Mike Patton on vocals) :thumb: |

What's "Math Metal", if I may ask?
|
"math metal" is a really vague term that's been given to bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan. It seems to mean incredibly fast, deliberately weird, technicality in metal, with hysterically screamed vocals. Seems to be interchangeable with "grindcore".
crazy guy - I think the intro to Stinkfist is distorted drums, but I'm not sure. |

I've heard some DEP and I loved it usually, but I haven't heard this song, oughta be interesting with patton on vocals. Has a clean intro, I was expecting to be dropped in grindcore madness straight away. But I'm not complaining, this intro is really good, quite psychedelic. I'm expecting it to break out any second now, meanwhile I'm loving this intro, it has some really cool effects. Patton on vocals now, very nice, I'm feeling the build up to the climax now, ah, the distortion kicks in, quite funky, Patton does some tricks with his voice. It's getting a bit heavier. Now it breaks down, with some beeping. Some semi hymnal interlude, good stuff. Reminds me of the sea for some reason. Goes back to the intro and then to another riff. Then it ends VERY abruptly, I had to check with someone else, 'cause I thought I had an incomplete version or something. Anyway, weird song, great song. 9/10 Songs : Within Tempation - Dark Wings (Gothic metal, female vocals) Dark Tranquillity - Punish my Heaven (Melodic Death) In Flames - Dialogue with the stars - (Instrumental song) Paw - Jessie (Hard Rock/ Grunge) Morbid Angel - Chapel of Ghouls (Death Metal) |

Never heard of the band before.
Paw - Jessie - 6:51 Starts off with drums, fairly fast paced, which I wasn't expecting. Then a kinda choppy riff comes in, which is pretty good. The vocals come in, and they do sound like grunge. I don't like them, but I can tolerate them, and to be fair I basically knew this is what they would be like. The song seems to be about a dog called Jessie. It's got a pretty regular structure; verse, chorus, verse, chorus, etc. Bridge too. 1:54 or so - I like this bit. The guitar takes on a different tone, and the whole thing sounds cleaner, kinda mournful. The distorted riff starts up again, but playing at the same time as this newer, cleaner guitar, which sounds pretty good. The drums speed up a lot towards the end, and a whining guitar tone rises in the background. I thought it was maybe going to solo, but it didn't. Never mind though, I liked that little fast bit at the end anyway. Well, I enjoyed that about as much as I enjoy any grunge, especially the clean guitar bits. Didn't like the vocals, though. 6/10 Would I listen to more of the same band? Probably not. Songs: Arghoslent - The Purging Fires of War (melodic death metal) Mannhai - Spender (stoner rock) Ben Harper - When it's Good (blues/jam) Blues Traveler - Optimistic Thought (blues/rock) Winds - What is Beauty? (symphonic metal, plenty of strings) Circle Takes the Square - In the Nervous Light of Sunday (emocore/screamo) Farmakon - Loosely of Amoebas (Gothenburg melodic death, with a bit of a twist) Botch - Afghamistam |

Finally, someone posts something i dont know:
Farmakon - Loosely of Amoebas Semi-thrashy opening riff. Vocals sound very very similar to Mikael from Opeth, not bad at all. After this a quick instrumental bridge and back into the verse. Insert bridge again, with tremolo arm dive. After that, a very quick punky sounding riff comes in, then TOTAL OPETH WORSHIP. This is where the song gets really interesting, it quickily changed from like Kreator to Opeth in a matter of seconds. The vocals seem to have more of a range than Mikael (especially with the falsetto). There is a groove acoustic/bass part shortly thereafter, followed by what only is remniscient of jazzy porn music, then a guitar solo which is in a not very commonly used scale, so it sounds quite different. The original verse comes back in after this, and although in theory the transition shouldnt work, but it does very well. Short bridge follows again, with verse following in suit. Slows down to jazzy part again for like one measure. The song breaks down switching between distorted and clean guitars with what sounds like chorus on them. After that is done, a weird noise part is inserted for about 4 measures, and then a VERY opeth sounding lead/solo comes in. Another faltsetto vocal line comes in again, with the same main rhythm behind it as before, but with a lead thrown in there on top of it also. The song then abruptly stops. Overall synopsis: These guys apparently want to be a slightly faster opeth it seems, and they do it very well. Now what would I rate a song like this? I would rate it: 10/10 - Simply amazing. I reccomend now in turn: Vintersorg - A Sphere in a Sphere (to infinity) [Prog with black metal elements at times, complete lyrical focus is astrophysics] Quo Vadis - On the Shores of Ithaka [Technical death/thrash] Summoning - In Hollow Halls Beneath The Fells [Very slowed down epic/atmosphereic black metal sounding stuff about Lord of the Rings] Solefald - Dionysify this Night of Spring [avant-garde] |
dibs, i've got no choice but to do the Quo Vadis song.

Hoorah, a 10/10. I was expecting a lot of "Opeth" to be splashed about a review of that song.

Quo Vadis - On the shores of Ithaca
Starts off with some palm muted chords along with some drum fills, soon followed by a harmony lead part. Like it's building up to something. 00:33 the vocals come in along with a guitar riff that fits perfectly along with an epic (i'm assuming that they are using Ithaca from the epic 'The Odyssey' but what do i know) The guitar work is very nice here, along with harmony parts. The vocals are top notch, but the drumming is quite good. The double bass work is excellent. 01:35 the mood changes to speed melodic death, again the guitar work is top notch. Soon in comes a solo, the solo is more a harmony fill but it fits perfectly in. 02:19 the music returns to the epic sounding riff from before. I love this part, especially when the vocals come in and the drummer kicks it up a notch. 03:16 an arpeggio riff comes in, it's played very well shifting in and out of minor and major arpeggios along with class drums and vocals. 04:16 the song slows down for a harmonized solo, soon in comes double bass oriented drums along with this harmony part, really sounds excellent together. Soon enough the vocals come in and the music picks up with a solo. 05:07 the solo picks up speed along with odd drumming, that eventually becomes a constant with the solo still blaring. 05:58 After a massive drum fill the harmonized lead part comes back in, with spoken vocals. The song ends with this fading out, then an abrupt stop. This song gets 10/10 I loved it, it was incredibely well put together, every piece of that music was top notch. I would (will) look into an album by these guys, they know what they are doing. Dissection - Where dead Angels lie
Heard a few songs by them before, great stuff Intro is acoustic, evil sounding, 00:18 - drums come in, then another guitar, they fit together nicely, this continues until 01:12 - first verse comes in, with another riff, then a break 01:50 - next verse, broken up by lead guitar, very effective 03:20 - nice little solo, i love it, 3:45 - Bridge, softer with whispering vocals this riff continues with a nice scream 04:47 - next verse, with the lead from the 2nd verse underneath, then another guitar plays 05:13 - nice little break 05:20 - before back into the main riff song fades out quickly This was an interesting song, altho it couldve varied a bit more, great band, i will def be checking out more of their stuff, 9/10 my songs are: Burzum - A Lost Forgotten Sad Spirit (black metal) Nile - Ramses Bringer of War (Death metal with egyptian influences of course) Emperor - Thus Spake the Nightspirit (Black) Kataklysm - In Shadows and Dust (Death metal..) Nile - Ramses Bringer of War
Starts with a cool bassy drum beat, then the trumpets come in, like the ones in 'Unas Slayer of the Gods' (The only other Nile song I've heard). There are some cool harmonies and call and response things going on in the intro. Then the guitars, which are quite heavy, come in, and drums come in as well. Then a big scream comes in, and the death metal starts. Distinct death sound, double kicks, heavy guitars. The screams are very good, and so are the guitars, and the drummer is a freak. He just goes nuts during his fills. I don't like the drums in the 'verses' esp. the bass drum, he tries a fast, black metal sort of beat, which I don't like. It's too intrusive - the double kick would of been far better. The solo is excellent, a good shredding solo, it fits the music well. The overall groove is great: impossible not to nod your head to. Again, the bass drum seems out of place to me, just use the double kick. The drummer's blasts towards the end of the song are incredible. Another solo, over evil growls, I like it. I also like the frenetic ending. I ordered this CD a while ago, I wish it would hurry the hell up and get to me. 8/10 I would give it a higher score, but the drums in parts didn't flow. ------ Lykathea Aflame - Land Where Sympathy is Air (Techical Death/Grind) Coroner - Suicide Command (Technical Thrash) In a bid to be more like Bartender, I've put a 'Forced Listening' folder in my soulseek - you should be able to find it. I'll stop all other downloads as well, just for you. My username is manuscriptreplica, believe it or not. |
Heh, I stole that idea from blue in Other.

I was determined to do this one, as I'll be ordering Elvenefris in a day or so. This is the opening track, right?
Lykathea Aflame - Land Where Sympathy is Air - 5:50 Starts off sounding very Eastern, which carries on despite the heavy drumming and the roar which comes in at 0:06. It's alternating between the Eastern sound, and a more traditional riff, with quick bursts of drumming in between. 1:05, I think I can hear a smaller roar again. 1:20 or so, the vocals come in properly; they're more or less indistinguishable (in terms of making out what he's saying), but they fit the music, so all is well. Triumphant sounding clean leads around 1:50-onwards, and a really cool mini-bridge type part at about 2:06. Some spoken word vocals shortly after that, and an altogether calmer sound, despite the constant and impressive drumming in the background. And then, at 2:44, we're back into the heavy riffing and growled vocals. Short verses now, with short, guitar-oriented bridges in between. Back to the light, Eastern sound of the beginning was around 4:04, followed by switching between verse and instrumental breaks. After some spoken word around 5:11, the song goes out on a change of riff, changing to a thrashy riff for about ten seconds before it ends at 5:46 or so. 9/10 I hope the rest of the album's this good. Would I listen to more of the same band? Yup. Hopefully soon. Songs: Arghoslent - The Purging Fires of War (melodic death metal) Mannhai - Spender (stoner rock) Ben Harper - When it's Good (blues/jam) Blues Traveler - Optimistic Thought (blues/rock) Winds - What is Beauty? (symphonic metal, plenty of strings) Circle Takes the Square - In the Nervous Light of Sunday (emocore/screamo) Farmakon - Loosely of Amoebas (Gothenburg melodic death, with a bit of a twist - I'll leave it here in case someone else wants to check it out) Korrozia Metalla - Audio Track 1 (punky thrash - you'd have to get this directly from me, as it's not actually called Audio Track 1; I have no idea of it's actual name) |
