I think you did not get what I was asking.

I was asking for you to elaborate on why you dislike it so much.

Stoic - MSN is working fine for me, and I added you as well by the way.

Well, it's basically a classic rock wankers thread...

Little or no real music to be seen on the list...
frenetic_amnesic: Really though, I'd like to know what being on Gigantour was like. Do you dig Megadeth?

I think Rust In Peace is one of the few perfect thrash metal albums of that period, along with ...And Justice For All and Reign In Blood. I definitely wore that album out when I was a kid. They lost it after that though. That was their perfect album. Gigantour was pretty bizarre. We had never done anything like that in the US. Never really done a metal tour like that. Gigantour was like this for us: we get there, stage hands and production people treat us like shit because they know we are gonna make their lives hard for 25 minutes a night, we go onstage, 4000 forty-five year old dudes who still live in their mom's basement and collect swords and dungeons and dragons cards give us the finger and yell faggot at us, we throw equipment at them and instigate them in any way possible, people that work at the arena are horrified and come running toward the stage to try to get us turned off, we are done, people boo, we stuff ourselves with catering.
Pretty interesting read.
If you hate practically every song on there, you either have either bad taste or have not even heard the songs.

I find that really hard to believe.

I think you misunderstood. You can't say "I hate X band, I denominate all their songs and all future songs nominated." Say there are 4 specific songs on the list that you dislike from the same band, you can denominate them, just give a short reason why other than "i hate this band" or "this song sucks."
The problem is that most all of those songs are by bands I know, but I haven't actually heard the songs themselves. Obviously I know Hendrix and Pink Floyd etc., but since I'm not actually familiar with those specific songs, I can't really judge. I'm not much on classic rock, which is what 80% of that list is comprosed of, so there's really nothing I can do.

The songs from the classic rock bands are all their most well known songs, and you say you don't know them, yet I'm supposed to believe you are familiar enough with the bands to know for a fact that you dislike their entire repertoire?

And don't think it's just because all the rock fans hate metal, last night myself and several CR regulars got into it with Krabsman for arbitrarily (sp?) denominating all metal songs.

Shadows 10-23-2005 04:23 PM

I can't say I dislike the entire repertoire, because obviously I've never heard everything. But by listening to one or two songs, can't you get the general idea as to what someone sounds like? I've heard some stuff by those bands, and I just don't like the overall sound of it. Just because I don't know specific songs doesn't mean I can't make a decision on whether or not I like their sound.

I disagree with you. Just because this kind of music does not meet with your standards it doesnt mean its not good. I dont mind if this is a classic rock thing, besides they should break the metal monopoly of the forum from time to time.

since when has there been a "metal monopoly" as well?

It's working for me, try giving it a clean ;)

I checked that thread about song that everyone likes, and I don't see how you could dislike all of them. I usually get told that I'm close-minded when it comes to rock and metal but I like at least one quarter of the songs there.

I'm getting ready for a trip down to London for a couple of days to see Dream Theater, I feel like a kid on Christmas eve :D

No. I said I liked Arcturus, except one song I've heard with Vortex I hated.

Your point is still valid though. That may very well be, but there's no way for me to know unless I listen to all of them, which I may do to get a better grasp of what's going on with that list.

Just because the whole list is not taken up by obscure metal bands means it is not music?

Fuck off.

On the current list I only see about 11-13 classic rock bands, and quite a few modern rock and metal bands.

And the forums threads and discussion on this forum are by far dominated by the metalheads, and rock discussion usually sticks to one to two threads for the most part.

And besides, you people are forgetting the whole concept of the thread. It's not like the metal world in where you try and prove that you are more kvlt and true then the next guy.

Ollie what happened to you? I didnt know you were that tr00 :p Sure I'd rather see a list with power metal songs or anything metal but I know that there's a great amount of people who like classic rock and respect them as they respect me.

As for the metal monopoly...Well it is not exactly a monopoly but I've noticed that most threads in here lean towards metal.

Nothing really. I listened to most of it, and I thought it was sounded pretty good. But as I listened on I started to notice striking similarities to Sonic Firestorm. After a while, all the intros and melodic parts seemed like they were taken right from SF and recycled for the new album. I though it was really similar to SF, which disappointed me. :(

But that's only from one listen. I love Dragonforce, so I'll keep listening to see if it grows on me, which I'm confident it will.

The crashing is really irritating me too.

I've always thought they sounded the same on every song, and there are some very striking similarities between songs on Valley Of The Damned and Sonic Firestorm. I probably won't buy their new one, I don't see the point in spending £10 on a CD when I've got two of it's identical twins already.

Ahh, this sounds rather disappointing. Same with the reviews in MA. :(
I think they should have taken their time and not rush another album, at least for now.

 goodnight!

Shadows 10-23-2005 05:35 PM

I've never heard Valley of the Damned, but I own Sonic Firestorm. I'll listen to IH some more and then decide, but I'll more then likely not buy it.

Lord Abortion 10-23-2005 05:36 PM

I think, to be honest you may have a point.
it will grow on me I'm sure and I like it well enough now, but perhaps waiting a little before producing a new album may have been a better idea.
Who knows?
next week, we could all be raving about it...

True but the similarities are too similiar even for the same band. I still feel that it is a great album though :).
