Pell Mell-Interstate

So good.
Pell Mell are one of the great instrumental groups...maybe ever. They craft exquisitely beautiful, at times tears-inducing, melodic/rhythmic instrumental pieces unlike anything else I've heard. Let me qualify that. Yes, you might hear similarities to others, but only in the most superficial ways--ie, they too use keys, guitar, bass and drums. What sets Pell Mell apart is that each individual has an incredibly strong instrumental "voice" that comes through on every recording. This is not a "jam band", but 4 like minds who somehow cohere around these fragile, spare, then driving and powerful, mini-masterpieces. And speaking of masterpieces, this is it: Interstate, one of the most inspired, inspiring, driving pieces of instrumental rock music ever recorded. 9.75 out of 10.
Dr. Octagon - The Return of Dr. Octagon

niobium 08-10-2008 08:33 PM

you do know that is the worst album ever made, right?

sgrevs 08-10-2008 09:02 PM

Na it's alright, not like his other stuff but it's not too bad. I hadn't listened to it in so long, some songs are better than I remember and some are tragically awful.
