Right, so I'm having a "Holy shit!" moment right now.
There is a gigantic ravine at my uni. To get from one part to the next, you can cross a bridge (or just go around). I was walking back from visiting a friend, and some lady slams on her brakes and rolls down her window. "I'm the medical examiner for [my uni's county], I need to get to the bridge." Me: [confused] What bridge? "I need to get to the bridge, there is a dead body, and I need to get there right away to investigate." Me: [light goes off] "Oh, you mean [nickname for the bridge]?" "Is that what you call it? Fine, how do I get there?" /me haplessly gives directions "Am I going to see the fire trucks, ambulances, and police there?" "Yeah, you should." /med ex speeds off Me:  A suicide? A homicide? Either way, oh... my... God. I had just walked over that bridge two hours ago to go visit a friend, and I was [this close] to taking the same way back, but I went to get something to eat. 80adfjaljf;lasdfpfawe[irpq2irpqjasdljfalskdjflkasdjflk!!! Oh my God! |
Sup guys. Nightwish seems to have broken up: they've just kicked Tarja out of the band in the past 24 hours, according to Oceansouls of America forums.
I know a few here were not huge fans of the group, but this circumstance is a truly sad moment for all power metal, as Nightwish was one of the closest groups to breaking out. It's a shame that this has happened. I made a thread about it, you can get details there. |
Too bad, I liked them a good bit, and Tarja was hot...they probably got pissed because she wasn't putting out.
|
They're still together, just searching for a singer.
|
Even if they do continue, it's safe to say this is the end of Nightwish, if you know what I mean.
|
I find it quite hard to imagine Nightwish with another singer. Tarja was the band's signature sound.
|
True, but I'm sure they'll still kick ass
|
The problem is that believing that creates a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Take for example, say... The Misfits. When Glenn Danzig left the bad, they wanted to continue, and they picked up Michale Graves. Most of the old fans said that Danzig was The Misfits, and it would not be anywhere near as good without him. Thus far I haven't seen any of them admit they were wrong. Those that approached with curiosity and hope really liked the Graves era. So to be realistic, Tarja had a distinctive voice, but she isn't the end-all of female vocalists. And according to Tuomas, she had very little creative input in the band, so the main difference will probably simply be a new voice. |
But in their case, the voice was about 80% of their sound. I think the vocals are going to make it seem like a completely different band, even if the songwriting hasn't changed.
|
So long as it isn't Amy Lee or Christina Scabbia, that's good news. I really enjoy Once as an album, and if for some reason I see Nightwish live in the future, it'll be weird hearing a different vocalist.
|
Well, now that I think about it, Tarja's voice changed drastically from album to album. I mean, it was full-blown operatic on an album like "Oceanborn" and much more poppy on the newer ones like "Once." So my faith is slightly restored.
It's just that Tarja had a huge fanclub in her own right, especially amongst the female fans. I think they should hook up with some of the women that have performed on Ayreon albums, they tended to be very emotive and high-quality. |

Another example would be Linkin Park, Mark Wakefield was a great singer, but Chester Bennington is a lot better of a singer (not as good of a song writer though). |
death on campus story
Wow, pretty scary. Do you go to a smaller university? |
What about Iron Maiden, for another example?
|
Wow, pretty scary.
Do you go to a smaller university?
Yeah, actually. But still, hooooooooooooly crap! I was just told a story that the bridge didn't have as high of barriers as it does now, because in the early '80s some guy in a wheelchair picked himself up and threw himself in his chair off the bridge. Kind of like when the Nazis threw that old guy in his wheelchair off the balcony, except it's a fucking long way down to the bottom of the ravine (that was me referencing The Pianist again). |

That was an incredible movie, by the way. |

How about: Faith No More Creed/Alter Bridge Wuthering Heights Savatage Helloween Gamma Ray |
How far down do you think?
That was an incredible movie, by the way.
At least 150 feet. I'm not talking Grand Canyon, but I'm saying that it takes a good amount of time for an object (such as an apple, if we're talking about Galileo here) to fall from the top of the bridge to the rocks below. And yes, although we won't be able to finish the movie, I want to rent it ASAP so I can see what the hell happens. |

Alex, how's it going with that one girl who you cooked for but then you found out she smokes? Are you still talking to her, or did you move on to another girl?
|
Creed/Alter Bridge
Good call on this one. Scott Stapp isn't very cool. |
Not on and off, but 20 minutes straight?
Where is your brother? |
Go wake his ass up!
Let us know how it goes, of course. Oh, hey, is that long user title page still available? |
