Ian Mackaye vs. Ian Curtis vs. Curtis Jackson vs. Curtis Mayfield
GO! |
Playing upright is raping my callouses, hahah.
I just got it last night though, so I suppose it's to be expected. |
I really want that spector 6 stringer. The reviews for the 5 and 4 string are both great on harmoney central and on MF. I'll probably buy it with birthday money
|
There are actually so many great bass manufacturers out there in the more comercial range, but I have a sneaky feeling I am becoming a snob in that I only seem to be drawn to the custom build basses these days.
Maybe it has something to do with getting into lutherie and understanding the effort that goes into producing the finished product "by hand" and not having it come out of a production line. Rollo, what upright did you get? |
I'm not really sure - it's old and beat up, and has a sticker on the inside that says Aria. It was bought for me be a local community orchestra.
|
so
i saw RHCP tonight who wants to touch me? -sixner |
saw them a couple years ago ... it was a good show, but i wouldnt put it in my top 5 favorite shows. maybe not even top 10....

:amaze:
what would you say your top 5 is? -sixner |
what would you say your top 5 is?
-sixner
off the top of my head ... flaming lips/sonic youth, deerhoof, alkaline trio, mustard plug (seen them like a dozen times, but good *** times), and maybe built to spill. these would probably be my top 5 shows of "bigger" bands ... i've seen tons of local shows that were tons of fun too. :amaze: |
Well I don't think one is going to complain about getting free gear.
<<<<<<<<prods sixner with a stick :thumb:
Not at all. It's still technically owned by the orchestra, but it's mine for as long as I play for them. |

Does it sound decent at least? |
Sounds good to my ears :)
I can only play pizz as of yet though, because they haven't gotten a bow for me. |
Sounds good to my ears :)
I can only play pizz as of yet though, because they haven't gotten a bow for me.
Well thats what counts. Pizzo is fingerstyle and Arco is bowing right? I actually have a serious jones to play upright, just not practical though at this point in time. |
Pizzicato is fingerstyle and arco is bowing, yeah.
|
damn, i'm bored. and not tired yet....

|
Right, time to do some work.
Suppose I do have something to look forward to today, get to go pick up more lumber for bas project which probably sounds about as interesting as watching socks in the dryer. Anyhow, good morning, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight. |
:upset: I'm an envious panda.
I need to write an essay on The Odyssey and the topics I've been given suck. My choices are: I) Examine the concept of The Odyssey being a rite of passage for Telemachus II) Analyze Odysseus's literal journey in relation to his interior journey towards self realization. III) Adress the responsibility of The Odyssey to serve as a tool to entertain as well as instruct. IV) Analyze two women, a hero and a villain, and explain your understanding of what makes them "good" or "bad". V) Argue the importance of sex and violence in art. Ewww. . . |
uhh in columbus?
i was there!
yeah columbus this is the 2nd time we've been at the same show together..... how upsetting -sixner |
What's crackin' people?

How Standards Are Created Historically
Does the statement, "We've always done it that way" ring any bells? The U.S. standard railroad gauge (distance between rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inchs. That's an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used? Because that's the way they built them in England, and English expatriates built the US Railroads. Why did the English build them like that? Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and that's the gauge they used. Why did "they" use that gauge then? Because the people who built the tramways used the same jigs and tools that they used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing. Okay! Why did the wagons have that particular odd wheel spacing? Well, if they tried to use any other spacing, the wagon wheels would break on some of the old, long distance roads in England, because that's the spacing of the wheel ruts. So, who built those old rutted roads? Imperial Rome built the first long distance roads in Europe (and England) for their legions. The roads have been used ever since. What about the ruts in the roads? Roman war chariots formed the initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagon wheels. Since the chariots were made for Imperial Rome, they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing. The United States standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8.5 inches is derived from the original specifications for an Imperial Roman war chariot. And bureaucracies live forever. So the next time you are handed a specification and told we have always done it that way and wonder what horse's *** came up with that, you may be exactly right. The Imperial Roman war chariots were made just wide enough to accommodate the back ends of two war horses. Now the twist to the story... When you see a Space Shuttle sitting on its launch pad, there are two big booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank. These are solid rocket boosters, or SRBs. Thiokol makes the SRBs at their factory in Utah. The engineers who designed the SRBs would have preferred to make them a bit fatter, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site. The railroad line from the factory happens to run through a tunnel in the mountains. The SRBs had to fit through that tunnel. The tunnel is slightly wider than the railroad track, and the railroad track, as you now know, is about as wide as two horses' behinds. So, a major Space Shuttle design feature of what is arguably the world's most advanced transportation system was determined over two thousand years ago by the width of a horse's ***. And you thought being a horse's *** wasn't important? |
I'm finding that a bit hard to believe.

its a good read though.
