Still life ;)

Syncratic 08-07-2005 11:18 AM

Will do...it's great music and I love it! :thumb:

Det_Nosnip 08-07-2005 11:27 AM

Stil Life, Dam nation, Morningrise, Ghost Reveries (if you're a cheater ;) ).

Syncratic 08-07-2005 11:31 AM

Thanks.....Det_Nosip...what does your usertitle refer to?

Killtacular 08-07-2005 12:29 PM

Tori Amos, it'd seem. Here lately, I've been pondering which is better between Morningrise and Blackwater Park, and I've yet to come up with an answer. It sort of bugs me, because BP has all those great heavy riffs and Morningrise has those great dual guitar melodies.

Also, is the bonus track to Morningrise supposed to be really bad quality?

Shattered_Future 08-07-2005 12:33 PM

Yes...i think it was from one of their demos.

I've been listening to Deliverance alot lately...I don't get why a lot of people say it's a bad album. Tracks like By The Pain I See In Others are some of the best music Opeth has put out...

I think it's one of their weaker albums.

I agree fully. I really enjoy Deliverance, It's a great album from beginning to end.
I dont' know why most people say it's bad either...maybe they are the fans that like the slower/clean material. At any rate - I listen to Deliverance quite often...The Master's Apprentices never gets old. :thumb:
By The Pain I See In Others is so lethal, one of Opeth's fastest songs ever.

It reaches another level of bad quality just like Orchid's bonus track.

I can stand listening to bands recorded through a video camera, but the bonus Opeth tracks are just so much worse. I've listened to them and they certainly do have shinny moments. The quality keeps me from coming back for more.

REALLY bad quality.

To be honest, it severely lowers my respect for the album, and it's even my favorite one :D

Ugh!! Thanks for reminding me about my hate!

evil ernie 08-07-2005 01:25 PM
Hello, my band is doing a cover of the Drapery Falls, and we need someone who can do the clean vocals, because all of our clean vocals blow. Anyone interested? My sn on AIM is detazathoth if you want to do the clean parts.
If you only need someone to record the vocals, I could help. I'd like to do it myself, but if it's not good enough I'll just ask my brother, who's my Opeth cover band's singer. I don't use AIM though, I'll just email you.

Kaiwaz 08-07-2005 01:26 PM
Audio Arena or Classifieds if you want this to happen. I also recommend taking your AIM off, the wrong people could see it.

Anyway....I heard 'Blackwater Park' (the album) last night and I'm hooked. What album should I listen to next?
For some weird reason the album My Arms, Your Hearse reminds me of Blackwater Park recordings in an eerie way. They both have a taint of the same style on all fronts I think.

If you like Blackwater Park, you will Love My Arms, Your Hearse.

the2stranger 08-07-2005 02:38 PM

you've got a point there Flynn.
but in another way, each Opeth album has an entirely different mood on me.
but I love them all.

The Flabbit Rides High 08-07-2005 02:42 PM

My Arms, Your Hearse is my fav

Apart from Ghost Reveries of course ;))))))))))))))))))))
Thanks.....Det_Nosip...what does your usertitle refer to?
Hehe...yeah, as Scruples guessed, I'm a big fan of Tori Amos...and then there's those "Famous Amos" cookies, so I thought I'd make a little joke.

The Flabbit Rides High 08-07-2005 02:51 PM

I dont know why but MAYH and Ghost Reveries has an almost Uplifting mood to it. It is similar also in many ways. I also found some Moringrise inspiration in the new album aswell.....weird

Its like they took all their albums perks and combined them into one. Weird. ;p

Yeah I did too, there's a hint of Black Rose Immortal in Reverie/Harlequin Forest, which is STILL stuck in my head. :amaze:

panthersfan16 08-07-2005 04:52 PM

Whats the best album to buy by Opeth. I have never heard anything by them but everyone loves em so I will give em a shot. Whats a good album to get into them with?

Kage 08-07-2005 05:00 PM

A lot of people will say Blackwater Park, while others will say Still Life. Personally I say BWP, but I recommend not getting Deliverance to start out.

Txus 08-07-2005 05:02 PM

I say BWP but just like kage said dont buy deliverance for your first opeth album.

Hells Bells 08-07-2005 05:03 PM

Any of them. All of Opeth's albums are excellent. Deliverance and My Arms Your Hearse are good for heavier stuff, D amnation shows their soft and melodic side, and Blackwater Park, Still Life, Morningrise, and Orchid have a mix of both. I couldn't tell you which one to get first...I can't pick a favourite.

The Flabbit Rides High 08-07-2005 05:49 PM

MAYH also has a good balance i think. That really is a remarkable album.

Yeah, I agree. I couldn't get into Deliverance at first...I would suggest Blackwater Park as well. Deliverance grew on me though
God I love that album. :thumb:

Yes it is. :D It's my favorite by far. It's so deep, Everytime I listen to It - it leaves me wanting more.

IMO the best part about My Arms Your Hearse is April Ethereal.

whatduffhuck7 08-07-2005 08:17 PM

really opeth has not yet released anything not worth its money. amazing band.
but id go with black water park or still life. love those 2 so much

Kage 08-07-2005 08:55 PM

Deliverance grew on me as well, but it just seems a little one-dimensional and less-thought out than their other albums. I bought that first because of the phenomenal title track, but was put off the band for several months until I picked up BWP and was completely blown away.

lost_profits 08-07-2005 11:07 PM

MAYH has this brutal feel about it. It's so cohesive- I listened through it all last night and it's so awesome how the end of track x leads into the start of track y. Deliverance is just balls out heavy but MAYH was brutal. Difference.

Darkness 08-07-2005 11:11 PM

I'm really getting into Deliverance a lot latly.. I like every song a lot... I love the over all feeling of the album. Wreath is underrated, very good/brutal/heavy song.

I'd recommand getting Deliverance before Morningrise and Orchid, since they dont really do that kind of stuff anymore.

The album you must not get first is danmation...its just not what they usually sound like.

I started with Still Life, but I think it BTW is the best album to get to know the band.
