i dont know about rob, i thought junglessence (all i've heard by him) was really lousy. I never know with Kirk, he gets a fair beating on this website but I've never had an issue with anything other than the ridiculous praise he gets. James is the dogs bollocks. Lars is just bollocks.

Jev 05-16-2006 04:23 AM
He might just get nervous.
After 20 years? I'm not too sure.

Chu: I wouldn't say Lars and Kirk are equal talent-wise. Kirk owns Lars.

timmySmi 05-16-2006 09:47 AM

James is easily one of the most innovative, creative, solid Rhythm guitar players in the world. If You were take him out of the band, Metallica would be non existent.

Ive just heard a version of Seek & Destroy they did on the Madly Anger Tour. Since when did they start playing that song in Drop D? It sounded god damn awful.

Jev 05-16-2006 09:53 AM

Maybe it's a one off thing. I sure hope it is.

absolutely. less significantly, but equally relevantly, Metallica would also be non existant without Lars of Kirk IMO. Rob seems to me merely to be a current filler, but has potential to become more.

and to he who claimed Rob to be the best, i disagree entirely. although he is good.

Crysiss 05-16-2006 03:15 PM
Rob is much better at his instrument than any other in the band, listen to his stuff with Infectious Grooves.

I'll see if I can YSI one of the songs right now.

Turn the "xx" to "tt" and get rid of the space in between "you" and "sendit".
Posting copyright material is illegal, I thought youd know that with your 5000 posts and whatnot

I doubt anyone has actually downloaded that.

Sadbutrue16 05-17-2006 12:23 PM

I was just wondering why everyone thought Ciff Burton is so good...I'm only 17 but i know Metallica well enough but Cliff was gone way before i knew about Metallica...think he died before i was born even (1988??). I heard his solo thing on KeA and all but sounds like lots of effects and distortion and what not.... I also heard he was a great song writer. I havn't really looked at who wrote what songs and whatnot. This is only one of the parts im ignorant in Metallica stuff. Or is this one of those things where he dies and all of a sudden he's the best (like Dimebag). I am not saying he isn't good at all. Just that everyone treats him like a god.

PS: Also wtf when i upoaded Metallica S&M to my comp it said Dave Mustaine helped write MoP?? That true or is the computer dumb?

I did, I was curious about Infectious Grooves.

Man, long time no post in this thread. Back in the day, I posted hear all the time under metal guitar.

If I remember correctly, Mustaine claimed to have written some or all (I can't remember) of Leper Messiah. Metallica never gave him that though, and I don't recall Mustaine ever claiming rights to any other songs from that album...

I remember he claimed partial rights to the MOP beginning. I haven't posted here in a while either.

1000th post WHOO!!!!!!

Soul_Under_Arrest 05-17-2006 01:39 PM

When I get home I'll pull the article out of my Guitar World with Kirk on it. Kirk says something about it. If I remember correct, MoP wasn't even written (song and lyric wise) before they entered the studio and Kirk said Mustaine wasn't even in the same country so he couldn't have written any part of it. Kirk said he and James played parts of it in a different key as a warm up joke.

Umm... I remember Mustaine saying something like he showed James how to do the riffs that eventually became MOP. The whole thing is that MOP has a distinctly different sound compared to the rest of the album (i.e. the riffs and the speed) And Mustaine claims that he wrote it before he got kicked out.

Soul_Under_Arrest 05-17-2006 06:34 PM

Kirk is saying in GW that he and Hetfield made those riffs up.

actually, MOP sounds like some songs in AJFA, and that was Mustaine-less.
MOP also doesn't sound to Megadeth or anything written by Dave at any era.

Jev 05-18-2006 04:34 AM

Dave never claimed to writing the actual song Master of Puppets.
He claimed writing part of Leper messiah, only because it used his spider riff technique that he claimed to had invented.

Squirrel 05-18-2006 05:49 AM

No, he later claimed part of MoP were his.

Jev 05-18-2006 05:53 AM

Oh okay.
I never heard about that.

Enlighten Me 05-18-2006 09:09 AM

You're telling me Dave wrote part of MoP?
Kinda crazy since it's around 4 years after he left..

Jev 05-18-2006 12:24 PM

I like Mustaine but there's no way I believe it.

the riffs obviously extend far beyond publishing. they were seemingly revived in the making of MOP.

Stormrider 05-18-2006 01:18 PM

What the hell is this Spider riff anyways ?

Say the song goes like this

D-9--
A-7--10
E-----8

Instead of using fingers 1&3 or 1&4 on both chords, you use 1&3 on the E5 and 2&4 on the C5.
It's quicker and cleaner once learnt properly.

I think I may be wrong but i swear Dave said it was this.

Stormrider 05-18-2006 01:25 PM

Oh, it sounds harder really :-/

I only use 1&3 for power chords.

I think that's right. I'm sure we could find a lesson on youtube.

I want to learn another Tallica song. I have basically all the classics down so if ya'll would name some of the lesser known songs that are fun to play I would be very greatfull

The song's name is Mistreated.

It's difficult for me because I use 1&4 for powerchords, but I guess if I took some time to learn it properly It would be easier than having to move my 1st&4th to another string.

Britton - tried metal militia?

Joe 05-19-2006 01:41 PM

The only role Dave played in MOP is the "spider riff" that he "invented." Speaking of that, I'm now in charge of the recording studio at my school and the first thing i recorded was MOP. How are you guys doing?

Jev 05-19-2006 04:01 PM

Doing good here.
Any recordings of it?

PepsiMetal 05-19-2006 07:41 PM

Not sure if it's been talked, but Kirk said they have 15 songs done. So I guess maybe a couple more and they're ready to choose which ones go on the album?
