Castor - Tracking Sounds Alone
"Castor was an American indie rock/emo band from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Formed in 1994, they were known for their "fluid" sound, often changing time signatures several times in a song while maintaining the flow of the music. They released two albums, the first self titled in 1995, the second Tracking Sounds Alone posthumously in 1998. Both albums are now out of print and only available in digital format online. Singer/guitarist Jeff Garber and bassist Derek Niedringhaus recorded an album under the band name "Big Bright Lights" in 1997 which was not released until 2001. During their existence they toured with other influential Champaign-Urbana acts Braid and Hum amongst others. Garber went on to play in the bands National Skyline and Year of the Rabbit. Niedringhaus also joined National Skyline, later forming Centaur with Hum singer/guitarist Matt Talbott, the producer of their only single." This is sick. |

i saw her supporting My Bloody Valentine, she was amazing. very nice looking girl as well, and one of the backing band was possibly the best looking girl i've ever seen. anyway, my friend bought that album and i ripped it - took my head a while to get round it, but it's excellent. Keven Shields wrote some songs for it as well apparently. you know of any similar music, man? i think that's Le Volume Courbe's only album from the basic research i did, but anything you know that's similar would be great. |
i've been digging Rodan's Rusty, and also their Peel Session...i didn't realise just how outstanding their drummer was before listening to the Peel Session, but turns out he's insanely talented.
|
Rusty is such an amazing album. my favorite is The Everyday World Of Bodies, the dynamics on that song are sublime.
|
Yeah, that song is sublime. I love the whole album, but that song is a different level. Just genius.
|
absolutely. if you haven't already, you should check out Shipping News, they have a really similar general sound and approach.
|
shipping news are ****ing awesome
|
i've heard their album Save Everything, which is great. Aren't there members of Rodan in the Shipping News? Maybe I just made that up, but I'm sure I read it sometime.
you can see a Shipping News poster at one point in High Fidelity as well...i watched that film last night and that stuck in my mind so there! |
yeah thats true
Very Soon, and in Pleasant Company is very good. check it out Quiet Victories and How to Draw Horses are particularly good fom that |
i shall check it out
Hoover - Lurid Transversal of Route 7 loving this a lot over the last month, they're now one of my favs on Dischord. Some of this is quite similar to the style Rodan played, not quite as technical though and very much influenced by Fugazi. One of the members went on to join June of 44 as well. |

i think Jungle Jim has the best dynamics, which is why its my favorite song on the album. it's like the precursor to Circle Takes The Square |
Harvey Milk - Life...the Best Game in Town
Off Minor - Some Blood |
Michio Kurihara - Sunset Notes
OOIOO - Gold and Green |
big business - head for the shallow

They both have that dreamy folky atmosphere. |
