I just saw a documentary on TV discussing the life of Syd Barrett, focussing on his time with Floyd. It was actually very involving, and quite informative for a 1 hour show. They interviewed every member of Floyd, and I can safely say that only Gilmour has aged well. :p

They also showed tons of footage, including the tape a friend made of Syd's first tripping experience.

It was very good, and if you get the chance to watch it, go for it. BBC - Syd Barrett and the Pink Floyd Story.
I watched it recently, very moving and very good.

I was amazied that

a. dave and roger appeared on the same DVD

and even moreso that

b. dave had something good to say about roger... "Roger summed it up perfectly with "Now there's a look in your eyes... Like black holes in the sky""

+Dark side of the moon is a metephor for insanity, I believe.
.
On the album it certaintly is.

"If your head explodes, with dark forebodings too, i'll see you on the darks ide of the moon"

If we think too hard about the ultimate consequence for everybody (ie head explodes- everybody is a difficult concept to grasp)- death- we go mad.
oh ok i understand now. cool

Yes, I have watched Saving Private Ryan but i never got it. What the hell does Fubar mean?
It means "F'ed up beyond all repair". Where did Saving Private Ryan come from?

Shazzam 06-27-2005 01:15 PM
For anyone who lives in Detroit, I heard Bono talking about Live 8 on the radio, and it sounded like they'll be broadcasting it on 106.7. The concert's on July 2nd, but I'll try to confirm the broadcast.
Yeah, 106.7 The Drive kicks ***.

My friend also said 94.7 WCSX will be broadcasting it too but I'm not sure.

It must mean something that Floyd is playing together for their first time in a long time on my birthday (July 2).

Actually, it is "F*cked Up Beyond Any Recognition"
Actually, it is "F*cked Up Beyond Any Recognition"
That's it, my bad.

Shazzam, how was the laser show?

I believe CBS or ABC or NBC is broadcasting it on TV.

Is the concert outside or inside? Because if it's inside, I want to see a light show.

slowhand 06-27-2005 05:17 PM

A little late but... better than never, huh?

For me DSOTM is a concept album about... life. What is the first thing and last thing that appears through the speakers? A heartbeat. At the beginning it stands for birth and at the end for death. And it all goes around it. Who of us here doesn't want money and would go to the extreme to get it? Who here fears, and ironically, want more time to spare? Who hasn't thought that you might go insane? Who feels he has been manipulated?

You can even see something about religion on Breathe (Reprise) "Far away across the field, the tolling of the iron bell calls the faithfull to their knees, to hear the softly spoken magic words."

It all deals with everything that involves being alive, express clearly on Eclipse with mentioning actions we all do.

In conclusion DSOTM is how Roger Waters perceives life.

... And does anyone know at what time will Pink Floyd be on stage? MTV and other MTV related networks are going to broadcast the show live... I just want to know when to tune in.

Yea, but I mean what does it have to do with Pink Floyd? Not that I care that you brought it up in here, I'm just curious.

I really have no idea...

Shazzam 06-29-2005 05:08 PM

The lazer show kicked ass...

It was alot like the Pulse concert; lot's of insane lazer's and lights with animations on a big screen in the background. Comfortably Numb easily took the take.

For a few moments I actually thought I was at a Floyd concert.

Shazzam 06-29-2005 05:14 PM

I actually bought 3 new Floyd DVD's this week...

David Gilmour in Concert - Probably the best DVD I own, he plays the first half of SOYCD just on acoustic, and then is joined by a small orchestra type dealy for the second half. The only downside is they only play like 5 Floyd songs out of around 14, but that includes two different Comfortably Numb's.

Live In Pompei Directors Cut - Seen the original several times, and this is the same thing, except for some small clips of PF making DSOTM in the studio.

Pink Floyd: The Critical Review 1975-1994 (not the exact title)- I havn't even heard of this before I bought it, but it doesn't matter, it blows. It's just some random journalists babbling about all of there albums and performances, contrary to what the cover said. I'm getting ready to take it back as we speak.

slowhand 06-29-2005 05:19 PM

I want to buy the Syd Barrett one. Is it any good?

DeusExMachina 06-29-2005 05:20 PM

Does anyone have the link to that Pink Floyd radio site where they streamed bootlegs? If you do, please give me a link, I'll love you forever.

They really need to make a Pulse DVD.

slowhand 06-29-2005 05:26 PM

Oooh, I've heard the 1972 bootleg of them playing an early version of DSOTM and I think it's fantastic, specially the instrumentals on it.

Otherside 06-29-2005 05:26 PM

Rothmans 06-29-2005 05:27 PM

The David Gilmour DVD is sick. I love it so much.

Nonononononono. That isnt official, it is just the VHS version ripped and put onto a DVD by someone. They are still working on the official one(It has been delayed several times). When they release it, it will no doubt kick ass.

Once I buy my new computer, I will upload quite afew PF bootlegs to the this thread. YSI doesnt work anymore on this computer.

standard 06-29-2005 11:14 PM

Someone was looking for a link to the radio that plays Pink Floyd bootlegs, just open winamp, go to file > winamp radio, and search for pink floyd.

TerryThorne 06-30-2005 12:17 AM
Pink Floyd is known for having some of the most bizarre album covers. In a way.. But they all mean something.

Like WYWH, the guy on fire shows a guy getting ****ed over in a deal... Refer to Have A Cigar.

Ummagumma is my favorite album cover by far. I love how in the picture it shows the band members, in the same spots, but different people.
I always thought that the burning man represented Barret, but I guess that other makes more sense

DeusExMachina 06-30-2005 11:52 AM

Gilmour, definitely upload bootlegs. I will heart you forever. By the way, I like the old school icon. Any particular reason for the change?

Does anyone have a recording of Come In Number 51, Your Time has Come?

Standard, thanks for the info about the Pink Floyd radio thing. I don't think that's the same site I'm looking for, (I have a link to the site at my home, but I'm in Iowa for the next week or two) but I'll definitely check it out.

Riva 06-30-2005 06:34 PM

I tried uploading the Pink Floyd - Live At Club Beat bootleg I have, but it failed halfway through. Stupid YSI!

standard 06-30-2005 10:45 PM

I was just thinking, wouldn't it be amazing if Waters wrote a book about the meanings of all his music?

I for one, would definatly read that.

On the note of books, has anyone read 'Inside Out'? I was thinking of buying it.. Is it worth it?

another guy 07-01-2005 12:24 AM

Why do you think Pink Floyd is so timeless?

What do you think? What gave them their universal appeal? Was it their ability to seamlessly infuse new rock and roll formulas with traditional jazz (most of Us And Them) and blues (Seamus)? Has anybody else ever tried to really pinpoint the quality that makes them such a classic?

herbalH.erb 07-01-2005 12:26 AM

They bore me, but I guess they made some pretty good stuff, and the really good stuff like that never stops being that good :)

i guess its that they were really the first truely prog band to go big?i dunnop
5. Before making a thread, check the forum to make sure there isn't a similar thread already. The search function works so use it. There are several ***OFFICIAL*** threads, a list of links is provided below. Post anything dealing with these bands in their ***OFFICIAL*** threads. Metallica for example has an official thread. If you post anything dealing with Metallica outside their official thread it will be considered spam. If you see several threads dealing with a particular band, don't start a new thread with a similar topic. For example. If you see an Alter Bridge thread talking about their new CD, don't start a new thread about a song on the CD, post in that thread.
At least you aren't a complete douchebag. Like honestly, why do you have to be like that? Are you angry? Seriously, why would you be so mean to some random guy over the internet for liking a band more than you do?

Sue Johanson 07-01-2005 12:38 AM

Maybe 40 years at the most? I'd hesitate to call them timeless. Come back in another forty years.

A_Tossed_Dwarf 07-01-2005 12:40 AM

Because drugs are timeless.

White_heat 07-01-2005 12:44 AM

I hate it when people put Pink Floyd down as just a druggie band when they barley used drugs.

Syd Barret.

Sorry. /end thread.

MAthiAS 07-01-2005 12:47 AM

I don't.

White_heat 07-01-2005 12:48 AM

Good point, but that was just a small phase that was totally diffrent from the rest of their career.

PepsiMetal 07-01-2005 01:10 AM

They're pretty boring aside few songs like good bye blue sky, another brick in the wall, etc.

But **** Led-Zeppelin, you're a friggin time bomb. Go cool off.
