Oh, ok. I'd heard they were and they weren't, I think. What about Biffy Clyro? I wouldn't have thought they were emo, but I heard they were.
After much soul searching (read: actualy thinking about it) I've realised that I don't really object to emo. There's some crap music, as with any genre, and the fashion looks ridiculous to me, but those aren't reasons to discount it. So what are some good emo bands I should check out, now that I've decided to be open-minded about it? I've heard some Atreyu and Avenged Sevenfold (who were emo but aren't anymore?), and I didn't think they were great. My favourite bands right now are Rammstein, QOTSA, Placebo and System, if that helps reccomendations. Sorry if there's already a thread for this and I'm just wasting space in your community thread. Feel free to come spam up the PNWI community thread, it's all we ever do in it:).
well since you havnt heard a single emo band but like metal, I would say start with rites of spring, embrace, and early fugazi (obviously) but after that you might be more interested in the emo's schizophrenic daughter screamo: check out In/Humanity, Pg. 99, Orchid, The Red Scare, Hassan I Sabbah, Usurp Synapse, and After School KnifeFight. :)
Well, I mean, just read the band name. I'd guess they sound like Atreyu with worse lyrics and more obvious breakdowns.
yeah... outright terrible.

Early Fugazi definitely, I already like some of their later stuff. I didn't mean to give the impression that I'm into metal, my taste is sort of... I wouldn't say eclectic, but spread around a bit. Not that I don't like metal, I just don't specificaly like it. I'll have a look around for the other stuff, thanks:)

whiteminority 11-17-2005 12:08 PM

listening to that will make your friends think your selection of music eclectic as hell... just sit down and to tell them to listen dance tonight, revolution tommorow! and see how they look.
Is Bullet for my valentine considered scremo?
because they seriously rock.
Hand of blood \m/
They're British i think.

Pretty bad from what i've heard.

RCVA 11-17-2005 01:08 PM
Oh, ok. I'd heard they were and they weren't, I think. What about Biffy Clyro? I wouldn't have thought they were emo, but I heard they were.
Good band but they aren't emo mate. More like pop-rock.

JimbobTheSquirrel 11-17-2005 01:16 PM
Good band but they aren't emo mate. More like pop-rock.
So I thought. I didn't see how they were emo myself, but I think I read it in some stupid review...

RCVA 11-17-2005 01:18 PM

I've got Infinity Land. It's good.

JimbobTheSquirrel 11-17-2005 01:35 PM
I've got Infinity Land. It's good.
That being one of their albums? I don't particularily like them, they're ok, but I was only mentioning them to confirm my suspicions that they had nothing to do with emo.

quick_death 11-17-2005 02:09 PM

great band pretty orginal aswell IMO

Special Brew 11-17-2005 03:00 PM

I like Biffy Clyro from what I've heard.

cbmartinez 11-17-2005 03:10 PM

I don't care what anyone says, Saetia is one of the best emo bands ever.

Mute Print 11-17-2005 03:12 PM

I agree Chris. Awesome band.

Floydfanatic 11-17-2005 03:12 PM

i've never heard saetia

cbmartinez 11-17-2005 03:14 PM

Hot Cross is better though.

Mute Print 11-17-2005 03:17 PM

I haven't listened to enough Hot Cross. I have Cyronics and Fair Trades and Fairwells, but I don't listen to them very often.

I do like them a lot though.

SGlove 11-18-2005 12:17 AM

Nah.
Saetia is better.
The new stuff by Hot Cross sounds empty.
They need another guitarist.

StandingStill 11-18-2005 03:49 AM

Anyone heard the new JR Ewing? I've heard the new stuff is a bit wierd.

Sep 11-18-2005 03:58 AM
Sep, download Lyburnum Wits.
I just downloaded that. Incredible song.

I hadn't actually heard Moss Icon yet. I've always mistaken them with Heroin for some reason. Moss Icon are so much better though.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 11-18-2005 08:11 AM

Guys I need bands like Saetia and Hot Cross for a mix I'm making my friend. I can't think of any bands besides CTTS.

As in bands that sound like Saetia/Hot Cross?

I don't think there's many bands that sound like them.
Maybe stick on some:

Joshua Fit For Battle
Jerome's Dream
Orchid
Belle Epoque
Dispensing Of False Halos
You And I
Bright Calm Blue
Kite Flying Society
City Of Caterpillar
Envy

Anasarca, the band Saetia ripped off.

Special Brew 11-18-2005 11:28 AM

I've never even heard of Anasarca.

tornpictures 11-18-2005 11:42 AM
Anasarca, the band Saetia ripped off.
So whered i you quote that from? I read it somewhere before. Anasarca aren't that good anyway.

that would be the title of a really good album by orchid.
So whered i you quote that from? I read it somewhere before. Anasarca aren't that good anyway.
thats an old thread title off of vlv.

It's not a quote. Ask Jamie from Saetia. He even admits they ripped a lot from Anasarca.

whiteminority 11-18-2005 12:16 PM

new avatar.

EvIL_ToASTER_OVEN 11-18-2005 01:50 PM

i don't see how you could think hot cross are better than saetia.

a new set of lungs was captivating, but other than that...

RetiredAt21 11-18-2005 02:07 PM

I think Saetia is much better than Hot Cross.

Special Brew 11-18-2005 02:07 PM

I don't completely consider hot Cross emo :-/

They're just too weird and I really don't feel the emotion in their music. Post hardcore seems like a better definition... I really enjoy them though.

RCVA 11-18-2005 03:13 PM
Post hardcore seems like a better definition.
Nah.

deadohiosky9 11-18-2005 03:39 PM
Hot Cross is better though.
hell yes. and Jamie told me he took a lot of inspiration from Anasarca in Saetia. Damien, you can't deny the emotion in Cryonics or A New Set Of Lungs. On Fairtrades, its def not as apparent, and he doesn't really scream anymore.

Also add I Would Set Myself On Fire For You on Sep's list.

cbmartinez 11-18-2005 03:42 PM

Yeah, I was listening to Cryonics today and I think it's one of the best emo albums ever. The tracks just have so much movement and the instrumental technicality is so good. The last track is so fucking awesome.

deadohiosky9 11-18-2005 03:44 PM

Cryonics is my favorite album. Its just a very solid album throughout. Requiescat is an awesome track, but I think Pretty Picture Of A Broken Face is their best on that album.

cbmartinez 11-18-2005 03:47 PM

The ending to "Pretty Picture..." is so good. My other favorites are "Dissertation: 14" and "A Tale For The Ages."

deadohiosky9 11-18-2005 03:51 PM

I like A Tale For The Ages a lot too, it trails behind Pretty Picture..but In Memory of Morvern is another amazing track off that album. Patience and Prudence too.

quick_death 11-18-2005 05:01 PM

there are no faults on cryonics whatsoever

whiteminority 11-18-2005 05:08 PM
Hot Cross is better though.
Nah.

deadohiosky9 11-18-2005 05:11 PM

i have a feeling their new record is going to be faultless.
