But he didn't, it was a joke. So in other words, that's irrelevant.
It will be very interesting to see what "heavier" means for Tool.

I think it will mean more crushing walls of sound, and bigger sonic landscapes rather than chugging riffage.
Heh, you took my thoughts and put them into words I couldn't find. I'm thinking the new album will also have numerous songs that will be considered epic, if the album itself isn't dubbed that first.

bassist-bmxer 04-06-2005 04:53 AM

Yeah so my band are covering schism, i have gone over it with my guitarist and we have it pretty tight, i just really want a whammy pedal now for the bridge bit, as the one on my zoom multi-effects mucks up my tone.

Rothmans 04-06-2005 05:05 AM
Those tracks definetly could benefit from a keyboard.
Not that the songs are bad or lacking as they are, but the extra synth would only make it better...
Well people can use keyboards too much i still think it would be deadly but if they did lets hope they dont go overboard with it.

the2stranger 04-06-2005 05:15 AM

I don't think they will overdo it.
I mean every cd is so balanced, so why wouldn't they balance it out when they hacve an active synthplayer?
Wow... I really suck at guitar...

Edit: oh and I thought you guys would enjoy this picture of our hero, The 'Nard.

I finally got to see that last night. I love the take on the Good Vs Evil stuff. And 4 people headbanging in a cinema when Passive came on was quite cool too.

bassist-bmxer 04-06-2005 05:39 AM

Oh yeah, i saw Constantine the other day and when it finished and the end music came on, i was like......"wait.. thats tool!" is it a new song?

clearvision 04-06-2005 07:51 AM

It's passive, It's on a perfect circles latest release, emotive. It's a cover of a song Maynard wrote with trent reznor for the tapeworm project...google it/search this thread for more info...

...In other new, AJIG's avatar dances perfectly to Nin's - The day the world went away.

Kage 04-06-2005 08:06 AM

That's awesome...I'm glad you're listening to The Fragile.

I think Tool's new "heaviness" will not be Ticks and Leeches style, but rather a concentration on, like Joz said, sonic landscapes and dynamic shifts.

TheSubtleArts 04-06-2005 01:17 PM

i think heavyness in music as in the delivery of it (for lack of a better word). but yea pretty much what Joz and Kage said.

Kage 04-06-2005 02:06 PM

If you take Patient for example, that's a really melodic and somewhat mellow song, yet it's heavy because of that huge build-up of tension and then it explodes into the distorted section, and it sounds really heavy.

Adam Jones is GOD 04-06-2005 02:10 PM

Tool's dynamics is what makes them heavy. And if a heavier approach means more dynamics, then its bliss for me.

Kage 04-06-2005 02:11 PM

jamesclelland 04-06-2005 02:46 PM
No, Adam does. I don't know how though.
He's got a foot controller for his synthesizer. each button produced a different tone, then for guitar (which was probably on the other channel) he played a real simple riff. i've seen it live adam is doing both at the same time.

No, no...

I knew that.

What I meant, is, I don't know what technology/pedal he's using to get those tones. :thumb:

Just found a very interesting interview between Maynard and a philosopher. Its back from 2001 so its a bit old and i'm not sure if anyone has read it before but if not, here it is:

http://www.cdicarlo.com/paper_04maynard.htm

I believe it was posted at the Tool Army site and well, I just got around to reading it. Anyway, it's a great interview where they discuss philosophy, Hitler, Religion, the media, Fibonacci sequence, etc, etc. They also talk quite a bit about many of Tool's songs and the meaning behind them like Stinkfist. Enjoy.

Podge 04-06-2005 04:28 PM

ohoh maybe the reason we havn't heard anything about the whole maynard inncident since is because he's running for pope, so i say yeah maynard for pope, maybe he can fix the world and make people think, he has my vote but im not a cardinal so he doesn't really but if i was he would have

Kage 04-06-2005 04:58 PM

joemarsh 04-06-2005 06:20 PM

Very good interview, but I don't like how they portrayed Maynard as "not well read" and "not very literate"

Darkness 04-06-2005 06:32 PM

Yeah thats weird...

well he said it, thats how he wanted to e protrayed (sp?)

Huber 04-06-2005 06:53 PM

That was a good read. It was nice to see someone intelligent interview Maynard instead of some TV bum.

One Groovin Clown 04-06-2005 07:24 PM

I had to write a speech for my class. So for the last week i've been writing it on the greates thing ever, Tool. I kept the information relatively simple, seeing how i don't think that people are ready for a mother load of info. about them, plus it has to be between 3-5 minutes long. I went through each member saying a bit about their past. Then i went into each of the albums, i am pretty proud of my work and i thoguht i'd just like to say that, so ya.

Darkness 04-06-2005 07:35 PM

^ you should post it sometime for us to see. :)

Dried Muffin Remnants 04-06-2005 07:38 PM

I remember I wrote a spanish composition on Alice in Chains and Tool. It's always nice to write about something that you love and something of which you know a lot about.

Daven 04-06-2005 07:55 PM

It's not even released by Tool, it's mostly a bunch of made up BS. They don't even pronounce the album names properly.

Enima? Onima? Annima?

Huber 04-06-2005 08:33 PM

I pronounce it Eh-nih-mah

TrainTakeMeHome 04-06-2005 08:34 PM

It's properly pronounced Onima. Or that's how the band pronounces it from what I've heard.

denboy 04-06-2005 08:34 PM

I pronounce it... ænima... .. *is danish*
