An opeth question,

Does Mikeal do both the growled and clean vocals for the band?

Special Brew 09-14-2005 08:00 AM

Yep.

I think Steven Wilson did teh backing vocals on some of the records though. Actually, I know he did, I remember seeing it on teh DVD. :p

the2stranger 09-14-2005 11:29 AM

Mikeal Akerfeldt does all growled and clean vocals.
Steven Wislon (of Porcupine Tree) did backing vocals on Blackwatrer Park, Deleiverance and Dämnation.

Steven's best vocal work on the opeth albums is : Bleak.
Steven Wilson is also responsible for the mellotron, pianos and grand pianos used on the mentioned 3 albums.

I don't uunderstand why Per didn't do any backing vocals on the new album, cause he has a wonderfull voice.
he did it on the dvd too, and on the show I went to last week too.
Per headbanging is evil!! :D:D

rage_h87 09-14-2005 12:10 PM

-Deliverance

Special Brew 09-14-2005 12:11 PM

^ Ghost Reveries and Morningrise

What bands was Per previously in? I haven't heard anything about him other than that he joined Opeth and is playing on the new album.

Det_Nosnip 09-14-2005 12:19 PM

Per was in Spiritual Beggers. I've heard that they rule.

he still plays in the Spiritual Beggers as far as I know.
and indeed his rings rule too, not to forget his keyboard work.

I would really like to have a drink with Per (being a keyboardist myself too)
he seems like a very cool and relaxed guy

Go for Morningrise first, since everyone loves it, then Ghost Reveries since it's more controversial. But it's an awesome album. Save MAYH and Orchid until you're a more solid Opeth fan, IMO. I like them less than most Opeth. Deliverance is probably the weakest album though.

Special Brew 09-14-2005 12:49 PM

I think Orchid is the weakest album, but I like it because of it's raw quality. The music gets boring after awhile.

the2stranger 09-14-2005 12:53 PM

I think it's list time again :p

favorite to least favorite:

Morningrise
Blackwater park
Still Life
Deliverance
Dämantion
My Arms Your Hearse
Orchid

I don't really know where to place Ghost Reveries as of yet, cause I haven't really had the full experience yet, after a listen 0f 20 I will be able to place the New album in to this list too, but I don't think it wil enter the top 3

Special Brew 09-14-2005 12:57 PM

Ooh yay! List time!

vashts80 09-14-2005 02:01 PM

I should listen to the rest of their catalogue, all I've listened to is BWP, D&D and GR :\

-Listy- 09-14-2005 02:07 PM

Orchid
Morningrise
BWP
My Arms, your hearse
Deliverance

Ghost Reveries
Still Life

Jude 09-14-2005 02:16 PM

OK...

Still Life
BWP/****ation/GR
Morningrise
Orchid
MAYH/Deliverance (I'm not that familiar with these two--haven't listened to them many times--but I'm not too fond of them from what I've heard.)

Ghost Reveries

Blackwater Park

Still Life

My Arms, Your Hearse
Deliverance

A few months ago, I never imagined Still Life would fall to #5.I was so convinced that it was the best album ever.I got kinda bored of it though.

Shadows 09-14-2005 03:15 PM

Even through all my Opeth experience (I've actually been into them for a while) I would say Ghost Reveries is my favorite, but Still Life and MAYH are very close.

Darkness 09-14-2005 03:16 PM

Me and Ghost Reveries still haven't clicked together yet...

3rdplanet 09-14-2005 03:19 PM

I've been exposed a lot more to certain albums over other so I'm not going to include the other ones in my Ranking.

Will have to borrow these from my girlfriend to listen to.

I was never able to understand what was good about Blackwater Park. I always considered it their worst.

Darkness 09-14-2005 03:25 PM

I'd like Blacwater Park more then Ghost Reveries even if it was just The Leper Affinity, The Drapery Falls and Blackwater Park to tell ya the truth. :p

Killtacular 09-14-2005 03:30 PM

Morningrise
Still Life
Blackwater Park

I need more Opeth.
Can you AIM me that bonus disc? MisterGroovy1023 is my SN.
I feel nice right now, so I'm going to download AIM and give you those two bonus tracks.

Your girlfriend rules.I rarely meet girls into Opeth.

Darkness 09-14-2005 03:42 PM

Yeah, a female that likes Opeth = +++ to hottness points! :D

Killtacular 09-14-2005 03:55 PM

Unless they're fat.. or cannibals.

Darkness 09-14-2005 03:55 PM

Well, its still better then if they didn't like Opeth.

Blanka Flip 09-14-2005 03:55 PM
Guess who went to Opeth last sunday
I was standing first row, and I even interacted with Mikeal!!!!:D:D:D
I took one picture, stupid cam...

they played a lovely set list:
The Grand conjuration.
Harlequin Forest
Black water park
to rid the desease
the drapery falls
face of melinda.
demon of the fall

blackwater park was amazing! the most awesome song they played.
too bad they didn't play Ghost of Perdition, my fave song of the new album
You got to see Harlequin Forest? :upset: I'm not going to be able to see them... The closest they play is 5 hours from me on a weeknight.

That's rather disgusting. It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "eating you out".

Darkness 09-14-2005 04:28 PM

It was clearly a joke... :p

Shadows 09-14-2005 04:32 PM

Did you think what I just said was serious?

Killtacular 09-14-2005 04:32 PM

Good times. Good times for all in the Opeth thread.

Shadows 09-14-2005 04:34 PM

It makes me wonder why I don't come in here more often.

Killtacular 09-14-2005 04:35 PM

You should. I'll even let you hold my hand.

Shadows 09-14-2005 04:37 PM

 *gasp* You will...really!? This is all happening so fast...my heart is beating a mile a minute! I feel so warm and fuzzy inside! I can't I never told you how I felt before...

Killtacular 09-14-2005 04:41 PM

Shhh, my pretty. You don't have to tell me, for I already know. I'll give you the moon, I swears it.

And I know what you did with the mailman.

*teh shifty eyes*

TemperamentalGoat 09-14-2005 04:44 PM

Plenty of chicks who weren't goth, obese, cannibalistic or otherwise antisocial I know liked Opeth... but mainly for stuff like ****ation, Silhouette and A Fair Judgement (the best song ever). They give me a strange look when I play Orchid afterwards and I tell them "yup, that's Opeth".

Darkness 09-14-2005 04:46 PM
