This is true. While I am no jazz expert, one of my jazz expert music teachers said that the best way to get into jazz is to just go from the beginning and follow the progression of the style. Do you have a jazz radio station IHU? The one in my area plays great stuff all of the time. It's a dodgy station, but it plays awesome music all the time.
Yeah, I know there is one. I just don't know what frequency it is. I'm pretty sure one of my friends does though, I've heard him talk about it before.
Nice avatar. I need to get that album.
It's a good one.

Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain

All I can say is that it certainly lived up to the hype. I didn't expect too much from it, and I was happiliy wrong.

Mission Of Burma - Vs.

I've heard some songs by them, and they seemed allright. So I picked this up, and again, blown away. One of the best things I've heard in a while.

Kraftwerk -Computer World

I've heard bits and pieces by Kraftwerk, and I never much cared for it at all. But this album was just sitting at the library and I decided to checkout the hype surrounding them. And it shocked me. I though I wouldn't like it all. It's a refreshing listen......from the early 80's.......yeah thats the ticket.

Luxor 05-24-2005 03:39 PM

I still need to get that Mission Of Burma album...

Right now I'm listening to Elliott Smith's self-titled for the first time through, and it's awesome. But, It's Elliott Smith, so that's expected.

Get Roman Candle, nigga.

It melts faces like phasers set on own.

talk show host 05-24-2005 03:50 PM

Today i've listened to:

Slint - Spiderland. It's good, but not as good as I was expecting.
Joy Division - Closer. Decades is too good.
Mars Volta - Tremulant EP. Horrible.
Faithless - the new greatest hits. Brings back memories

I can't get no sleep.

Little Man being Erased 05-24-2005 04:07 PM

I'm diggin' Demon Days.

Do you guys actually listen to three or four entire albums in a day? I don't quite have THAT much time, and I rarely listen to more than one at a time because I'm trying to absorb it. Maybe I don't understand this thread?

Zappa 05-24-2005 04:55 PM

Sometimes I listen to that many. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Little Man being Erased 05-24-2005 05:16 PM

I don't really have much time either. During the week I listen to music in my car, at work occasionally and at home sometimes, but not much. I mostly get time to listen to music on weekends.

Zappa 05-24-2005 05:23 PM

I listen to music at school rather frequently. And the way my mind works, I can listen to one tune from a familiar album between classes and fill in the rest mentally throughout the next period.

Iai 05-24-2005 05:57 PM

I walk to college for half an hour, walk back for half an hour, plus I work for 2 hours. That's about 3 or 4 album's worth every day. Plus the time I get when I get home.

Bartender 05-24-2005 05:58 PM

And I'm a student, so it's kind of my job to have large amounts of free time in which to listen to music and watch Countdown.

Iai 05-24-2005 06:01 PM

Ah, Countdown. The holy grail of the 18-22 year old.

Zappa 05-24-2005 06:01 PM

What's Countdown?

Little Man being Erased 05-24-2005 06:03 PM

As far as I know, it's an old Australian pop music show, where they had live acts and stuff.

Iai 05-24-2005 06:07 PM

No, it's a British game show. It mainly involves re-arranging scrambled letters to form words. It's fun to play along with when you're drunk or otherwise inebriated. Plus, the presenter is a slightly confused old man who doesn't quite understand what's going on most of the time.

Little Man being Erased 05-24-2005 06:10 PM

Yeah, I figured it must have been some sort of British thing.

cbmartinez 05-24-2005 06:26 PM

So I just thought I'd come in to say I heard "Little Sister" by QOTSA and I thought it was pretty groovy.

Luxor 05-24-2005 07:31 PM

True.

Plus I need Figure 8. Then I'll have all of them.

Zappa 05-24-2005 08:06 PM

Watched the Miles Davis DVD again. Such great stuff.

Bandaid 05-24-2005 11:00 PM

The Big Chill Soundtrack, basically motown hits cd, Joy To The World by Three Dog Night was my favourite song when i was 5, revisiting is fun

3 top albums, good work.

The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free
Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
Public Enemy - Yo! Bum Rush The Show
Refused - The Shape of Punk To Come

Tomahawk 05-25-2005 08:37 AM

Got my hands on:

Afghan Whigs - 1965
Billy Bragg - Talking With the Taxman About Poetry
Scrawl - Velvet Hammer

So I've been digging on them.

Also the Pogues. Also American Music Club. Also Cheap Trick, live at Budokan!

Oh and as far as the "listening to a bunch of CDs in one day" thing goes... my job involves me being in my car, and me being in my car involves me listening to CDs. Also, I'm a music geek who owns an iPod. I guess that contributes too.

Bukowski 05-25-2005 09:10 AM

Bands i've been listening to:

Sonic Youth
Mew
Propagandhi
Appleseed Cast
American Football
I'm diggin' Demon Days.
i'm really enjoying it, but it still has to grow on me.

I watch it sober :-/

But yeah, that's more or less it. Wikipedia has proven useful in explaining it to previous Australians, so there you go.

And I've been mostly digging Solomon Burke - Don't Give Up On Me today, along with what I listed last time I was here.

Luxor 05-25-2005 11:44 AM

I gave Kyuss another listen. So, they're not as bad as I previously had stated. The music is good, but I really can't stand that type of vocals. That's mainly why I'm not a very big metal fan.

Right now I'm listening to Spoon's new album. It's decent, but not as good as some of their other stuff.

el doctor 05-25-2005 01:15 PM

Sleater-Kinney - "The Woods"

I've been enamored with the album since it was leaked, but now that it's actually out, I can legally whore it.

Little Man being Erased 05-25-2005 03:48 PM
i'm really enjoying it, but it still has to grow on me.
Yep, exactly the same for me. I've only listened to it a few times, but it's definitely very goooood.

crazyGUITARnDRUMgal 05-25-2005 04:07 PM

Spoon - Gimme Fiction

The Reincarnation Of Hendrix 05-25-2005 04:38 PM

Ive been listening to alot of Eels especially thier new album Blinking lights and Other Revelations which is their best one yet

Little Man being Erased 05-25-2005 04:51 PM

Black Mountain melts my face.

I've been meaning to check them out.

Recently:
HORSE the Band
Syd Barrett
Circle Takes the Square
The Mars Volta (DITC specifically)
I've been meaning to check them out.
There was a thread about them with a link to some songs to download not long ago. That would be a good place to start.

You do realise that all metal vocalists don't sound like Kyuss right?
