There were only a handful of artists that existed before 1979, the earliest of which I have tentatively referred to as "proto-industrial", Luigi Russolo and Cromagnon included (which is something I would like to expand upon, this will probably end up just being a heap of early electronic music, avant-garde classical, Krautrock and Musique concrčte). The immediate first wave is clear, probably a little bit after this (the "post-industrial" phase, I guess) and up until around the industrial metal boom in the early 90's is the period i'm most interested in, there just seems to be such a diversity of stuff to find. In regards to Killing Joke , give them a listen. If you can handle or appreciate the synthed out 80's sound you may like it. Their songs are a bit deeper and more thought out than the music of that time.
