5 strings are the ****
especially if you play a lot of metal (like me) and then you don't have to change your bass around to play with the dumb guitarist in drop C personally I get a lot of use out of the low B...even if I'm playing higher up on the neck I still use that string a lot it's just got that beefy tone nahsayin bruddah? |
Yeah I know what you mean.
I have a bass I use specifically for a band I'm in that plays in CGCG all the time, dunno if a five string would work well in that context for me. |
CGCG?
damn that's a pretty....dumb tuning lol |
Yeah it's just to match the guitar which tunes to open C.
There's no advantage to it beyond that but the patterns are very simple so I don't complain. |
Yeah I've never been convinced I'd use the 4 extra notes that much to justify having a five string.
I know I'd be able to do some awesome **** with tapping and chords but I'm just not sure I can bring myself to buy one.
i used one for the first time with my band today, i really like it. it's not that i used the 0-4th frets of the low B all that much, but it really opened up new fingerings higher on the fretboard. |
Pretty much what I figured.
Except I was confused when I looked at your profile and it said metal was your favorite musical genre, because I definitely did NOT remember that.
hahaha, i have no idea how that got there ... |

Yeah I can see it being cool for that. I dunno, I just can't justify any more instruments at the moment. |

it's the default  |

I want some flats. |
That does sound nice, well played too.
|
would i be alright if i ran 600 watts through a 400 watt cab?
i mean i wont tear ish up will i? |
It's fine, just some tasty headroom.
|
:-9````
its a guy with his tounge out drooling, if you can't tell heh |
As long as you don't put the amp at like 100% of master volume, but when would you ever do that anyway.
|
right.
i'm at like .5/10 and it pretty much does the job for practice, and around 2 for actual shows , but thats with a 410 cab, i'm currently looking for a 210 to use so im gonna go up a little in volume but eh i think as long as im below 5 ill be alright |
Nice.
Yeah I don't think I've ever run mine above 5 out of 10. |
yeah, as long as your speakers arent constantly farting out, you should be fine with that setup.
|
I need a new amp as my Carvin is cutting out and it doesn't put out the power I'd like anyways now that I have to fight with two guitarists. Given that both my cabs are rated differently (18" 800W@4ohm, 4x10" 800W@8ohm), I'm thinking it might be more cost effective to find two different amps that can power each cab in bridged mode than to find one that can power them both in stereo mode.
I'm not looking to spend more than $600. Any suggestions? |
I just found the Samson SX2400 and SX3200, and they may be a stereo 2U amp version of what I'm looking for. Given my cab specs, which should I go with?
By the way, SX2400 specs: 2 x 550W @ 8 Ohms / 2 x 750W @ 4 Ohms SX3200 specs: 2 x 800W @ 8 Ohms / 2 x 1100W per side @ 4 Ohms |

Naw, I was playing. I mistyped 35 as 5 and high strings and small scale and all that... I'm just worried that if I get a 5er I went use the low B.
Really, I don't find that the low string cuts through well enough to use it as my main string. Instead, I tune mine down to an A and use it in octaves to beef up the sound. I do use it a lot though - almost in every song (save the one or two on my 4-string). It's a weird string at first, but having the dropless D option helps and it slowly becomes second nature to your hands. |
Bitches.
|
Black tar heroin.

I think I've decided to go with that SX2400 amp. It's got the power I need, it's stereo, and it has front mesh vents that can be easily cleaned. Now all I need is an 8-space rack, crossover, and that Sansamp preamp and I'll be set. w00t!
It's $500+ I don't want to spend though. |
Maybe you should sell some stuff, then.
