I wish I could remember what he said but it was along to lines of: The Rolling Stones are 3 years behind in copying us. And the popular "Stones are just a rip off of the Beatles."

I could definitely see John saying that! |
He played with U2.
Or should I say U-Poo omg im so clever.
That's a good reason to dislike someone. I can't stand U2. And John clearly had a big ego. Let us not forget the famous "we're more popular than Jesus" remark. |

Let us not forget the famous "we're more popular than Jesus" remark.
Don't even bring that up, every time i hear that i get angry because of how the remark was twisted around by the media. He was simply making an observation that there were more people at their concerts, than there were people attending church. But it was twisted around so badly that they made him sound like he thought they were better than jesus. Goddam media  |
Yeah, I don't think he ment it as a "we're better then Jesus" remark but more as a take on what the world has come too, when a pop-band can be more "popular" then Jesus himself.
basically what lepper said. |
John Lennon was by far and away the most pretentious member of The Beatles...I just wish I can remember the quote he had about the cover of Two Virgins.
|
Hehe, two virgins.
"Hey Johnny, I can see your doodle!" "Shut up Flanders." |

I agree it was twisted by the media and whatnot, but regardless of why he said it, it is undisputable that the words "we are more popular than Jesus" or some variant thereof were spoken by Lennon. Why? Who cares. The point is he said it, and no matter why, it takes an ego to say something like that. |
When he said "We're more popular than Jesus" he was making a religious remark. Because of the decline of Christianity in Europe, and the rising of Beatlemania, John was comparing them as an analogy that no one seemed to get.
Stupid media. *pouts* |

That's true, no matter what he actually meant, it took at lot of balls to make that remark. |
^ Agreed.
I agree with you, that what he said took some balls, but it also took some arrogance. Bottom line John Lennon = Awesome. Edited for MisterSkys approval :thumb: |
^ Agreed.
Add more content to your posts. Saying agreed is the same thing as saying 123 which is a bannable offense, so edit! I've been on the biggest DSOTM listening binge. I've listened to it about 5 times this week alone. Freaky, huh? |

Was that the episode where Flanders had the huge Beatles obsession? And when people expressed surprise, he was like "of course I like the Beatles! They're more popular than Jesus!" |

No, it was in the one where Homer forgets to pick up bart from his soccer practice, and then Bart ends up filing for a big brother. Best part of the episode: When Homer and Tom (Bart's big brother) are fighting in the street and homer get knocked out and falls on a fire hydrant, getting bent over backwards, and says in a hilariously calm voice.."This is even more painfull than it looks"   |
So anyways, I was listening to the White Album today, and for the first time I listened to Revolution #9 completely. I'm sufficiently weirded out now. What's the story behind that track? (Can't really call it a song)

But what's with the repeated #9? |

Oh well, at least it made for yet another classic Simpsons moment. Barney- "Barbershop is in danger of going stale, I'm taking it to strange new places.." "Number eight..BUUUUUURRP" |
That whole episode was so great!
I hope you all realise it was a parody of the beatles' career. |
No, actually I think only you were clever enough to make that connection.
|
No, actually I think only you were clever enough to make that connection.
I really hope that was sarcasm.. |
No, actually I think only you were clever enough to make that connection.
That made me chuckle :upset: |
I think Dear Prudence is my new favourite Beatles song.

Did you guys screw up and say you were bigger than Jesus?" Homer: "All the time! That was the name of our second album!" That episode was the best.
I think Dear Prudence is my new favourite Beatles song.
That's definitely in my top five. |
"Hello Homer, I'm George Harrisson."
"Oh my god, OH MY GOD!! WHERE DID YOU GET THAT BROWNIE??" haha, that really is one of the best episodes ever. |
while we're on the topic of cartoons and beatles..
Anyone ever seen the episode of Family Guy where Peter is a security guard for George Harrison? (as george harrison is getting mugged and robbed) Peter says "Hey, HEY!, keep it down up there!.....You whacky beatle..." oh haha family guy.. |
