I think someone said this yesterday or something but on PBS right now in the Mountain Time Zone there is some sort of Roy Orbison concert going on. PBS is way cooler then I orginally thought, yesterday they had John Denver.
Bruce Springstein is with him, and I think I might've saw Elvis Costello. |
I voted for Dylan in the new poll. Though Lou Reed was a close second.
Watch out, someone has a different opinion than you.
I don't think most people can explain why they like something and you don't. That's how different personalities work.
**** you. Don't give that "opinion" bull****. Give me an explanation as to why in the hell you praise him as a guitarist. Everytime I ask that question to Clapton fans they stray away from the question and try to defend Eric by attacking me. I'm sick and tired of it. Anyone want Radio City by Big Star? |
**** you.

Clapton is good because he is one of the few guitarists who blow me away. True euphoria can never be described in words, thus I have no words. I watch the solo he does on White Room on the reunion DVD and actually dance to the beat. I NEVER dance to music, only if its very good.
Good music to an individual can never be described in words..."oh, well, I like how they go from a c major to a D# diminished 7th chord in their music, and that slide he does in bar 3 of that solo is...." just shut the hell up, music is music, and thats whats great about it. |

np: Television - Marquee Moon
How...? This is vocalist poll, and he can't do anything with his voice that Lou Reed can't do, or anyone else on the poll for that fact. I think its crap how he somehow even got on the poll. |

Most of the time you complain about everything you don't like expecting people to write a detailed essay explaining why they like it. What makes your opinion so much more valuable than everyone elses? I never ask you to give reasons why you like a certain thing I don't. I like Eric Clapton, a lot, because I think he plays with a lot of feeling and emotion and the music gets across to me. I know my opinion isn't as worthy as the all-mighty Schyma's, but thats the only reason I can give. His form of music is something I appreciate greatly and something that I can feel when he plays. Get the fuck off your high horse.
Crossroads.
Liking a song Clapton does isn't a good enough reason. Write a detailed 6-10 page paper explaining why you like him and what makes him a good guitarist. Cite at least three sources. |
Woah. You guys need to settle down.
|
I have read that Clapton know absolutely nothing about theory. If seen through a musician's eye, probably he is a bit under the quality of other guitar players out there. Yet, as Lunch said, everyone have different opinions about things. If everyone tried to make others differ from what they like then we'd be a pretty fucking twisted little world.
Probably we could get some tea to settle down the passions... |

Have you heard the White Room solo on the Farewell Concert dvd? It's so awesome. Like the first note into the solo is so powerful, I love it. If I can find that on audio somewhere I'll send it out. Unless somebody else has it? |
actually i have seen that, but its been a long while (probably almost two years)

You know Lunch, I wouldn't ask for an explanation from you guys if I didn't think all of you were intelligent, open minded people, who's opinions I respect greatly. Though it may not seem this way, that is how I feel. I just feel a need for an explanation when the guy gets ranked with the likes of Jeff Beck, Eddie Hazel, Duane Allman..etc and doesn't come a mile (IMO!!!!) innovativly, technically, creativity and visionary as anyone of them. It truly makes me sad to see some people calling him god. I mean he himself acts like he's the best guitar player the world has ever seen. All I wanted was a simple explanation (not an essay) as to why someone thinks he's one of the greatest guitar players ever but I guess this was way too much of a request for you, Lunch. For that I apologize.
Over the past month, I've been debating with myself on if I should or shouldn't post on this forum anymore. I mean I'm grounded all the time, my school work really needs some attention, I have a drug problem which I'm honestly trying to get rid of...and it also seems as though my opinion no longer seems to hold any value amung the regulars here. So I feel as though I no longer have any incentive to post here anymore. I've enjoyed for the most part being a regular in this great community for the past year but I think this is will quite possibly be the end. Maybe I'll return some time in the next few weeks/months/years, I just don't know. It was good while it lasted I guess. I will miss you all. |
Well I hope your not serious, maybe its the lack of sleep that's talking, but if not I had fun "debating" over Psychedelic Rock with you although we never think on the same level. You'll be back, its impossible to quit.
NP: Velvet Underground I'm Waiting For The Man. I've been listening to Lou Reed all night! I really like Nico's voice too, I don't know why a lot of people hate it/her. |
That was a pretty rash decision. Sometimes I think we take our discussions way too seriously/personally.
|
So...gee golly gosh how 'bout them Allman Brothers.
|
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from the Fillmore East is stunning.

Have you heard the acoustic version on An Evening with The Allman Brothers Band 2nd Set? I think I might like it better than the one on Fillmore East, and it's got a great bass solo. |
See you Schyma
Good luck with all your stuff. |
I have read that Clapton know absolutely nothing about theory. If seen through a musician's eye, probably he is a bit under the quality of other guitar players out there.
neither does jeff beck. nor did hendrix. it doesnt make them any less guitar players. clapton plays with a lot of soul, or at least he used to. he's definitely no slouch technically, especially nowadays, and he's probably the smoothest guitarist ive ever heard. his playing is the most pleasant to my ears. thats why i like him so much. at his crossroads guitar festival, during the assorted blues jams, he shows everyone up. no exceptions. |
So...gee golly gosh how 'bout them Allman Brothers.
That was kinda awkward. My favorite Allman Brothers song is Whipping Post. np: Alice Cooper - Generation Landslide. I seem to be one of the few diehard Cooper fans here. |

like blue sky and one way out.
aka my favorite allman brothers songs. |
*bump*
The Allman Brothers Band is great stuff. Trouble No More, Whipping Post... such great stuff. Jessica is a beautiful song, but my favorite has to be Ramblin' Man. |
I like Revival, Jessica and Ramblin' Man probably the best. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed is amazing too.
|
I was just listening to Ramblin' Man. I'm really digging Brothers and Sisters. It's not as good as Filmore East or Eat A Peach because there's no Duane but it's really got a great laid back feel to it. Dickey Betts is so awesome.
|
Thats a great album. Ramblin Man gives me chills everytime I hear the outro solo.
NP: Allman Bros. - Southbound |
Thats a great album. Ramblin Man gives me chills everytime I hear the outro solo.
NP: Allman Bros. - Southbound
I'm finally realizing that Dickey Betts gets really overshadowed by Duane Allman. I mean Allman is a guitar god but Betts is up there with my favorite guitarists as well. He's awesome. Love his tone. Edit- And CSN(Y) really own. I'm definitely getting one of their cds for Christmas. Probably Deja Vu. |
Favorite Allman Brothers Songs: One Way Out, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed (Fillmore), Whipping Post, Mountain Jam, Statesburo Blues.

That has to be the longest song I've ever heard. 33:40... :amaze: Duane Allman and Dickey Betts are one hell of a guitar combo. Both are just amazing. I also seem to be forgeting Stormy Monday on a list of favorite songs by them. Love it. |
I also seem to be forgeting Stormy Monday on a list of favorite songs by them. Love it.
It's alright.. Nothin' when compared to T-Bone Walker's version :) |
The version at Ludlow Garage is like 45 minutes or so, but I haven't heard it. On my computer I have a version of Dark Star, The Other One and a You Enjoy Myself that are over 33.
|
Yeah, an Allman Brothers jam can definatly go for hours on one song. I'm gonna try to get Live At The Fillmore East a.s.a.p.

Good idea. It's illegal to post here without owning it. j/k but you should try to pick it up. It's considered the Allmans peak, and even though I prefer Eat A Peach by a little, it's still awesome. |
Actually, I think it is illegal.
At least, it should be. The Allmans dominate the classic rock thread. |
Well I think none of my friends have this record, so I think I'm gonna try to make this the next CD I'm gonna buy. It's a hard find anyway.

Big League Chew. I didn't get the hoopla about Eric Clapton. He was always proficient but never transcendent. I always found it ironic that he is praised for being a great blues guitarist but he often seems to take the blood, sweat, and tears out of the blues. He has his moments (the album he cut with Derek and the Dominoes, some of his work with Cream) but for the most part he seemed pretty unspectacular. Allman + Betts, on the other hand... :thumb: (just to keep up with the conversation) |
I've been on a serious Bob Dylan binge lately, so serious, that I will pay $36 for a Bob Dylan shirt http://www.luckybrandjeans.com/Product.aspx?p=LBX07630&l=&k=dylan&pn=2

haha family guy. i just got the new season.
really though, i can see why many people say that clapton plays soulless blues, but i prefer to focus on his stint with derek and the dominos where i believe he played some of the most soulful guitar ive ever heard. especially the live album. |
