**** the superbowl tbqh

pate 02-03-2008 07:33 PM

I hate all the ****ing publicity. I'd rather it just be another game.

FatalEnergy 02-03-2008 07:35 PM

I don't even like sports. I don't see the hype in watching other people play a game.

Indeed, the widespread popularity of organized spectator sports is one of the few things that makes me embarrassed to be a man.

Soccer isn't too bad tho.

Tyler 02-03-2008 07:49 PM

I like how they have to put the little overlay on so the fans can tell how far 10 yards is. Because all the yard marking lines on the side apparently arent obvious enough.

edited for Kage's sensitive eyes

Kage 02-03-2008 07:51 PM

That was a really dumb thing to say.

Tyler 02-03-2008 07:52 PM

It was a true thing to say.

Kage 02-03-2008 07:55 PM

Are you really trying to use that as a platform for social commentary ? It's clearly just a flashy marketing tool that the sports channels use.

Moon Flavor 02-03-2008 07:56 PM

Warning: Social Commentary Itt

Tyler 02-03-2008 07:57 PM

They use it because their audience is too stupid to follow. They did (or tried to do) the same thing with hockey a few years back because the American audience couldn't follow the puck.

Yep, we're pretty dumb sometimes.

Kage 02-03-2008 08:01 PM

That's not true at all. All the stations that broadcast sports always try to come up with new, flashier ways to update their TV interface (ie, scoreboards and information marquee, etc.). Whatever station first came up with that, the rest followed suit.

Besides, it's just there for clarity's sake. Why not have a little yellow bar that marks where they're trying to get?

Tyler 02-03-2008 08:01 PM

I like John Madden because he draws on everything

Way to overanalyze it.
Why not have a gigantic overlay? Because it's distraction. And he hockey thing was purely because the audience was too stupid and oblivious to follow.

There's a difference between flashiness (Mic'ing coaches, more cameras, better graphics) and distracting overlays that distractingly point out the seemingly obvious.

Bordello 02-03-2008 08:14 PM

commercials suck this year

Tyler 02-03-2008 08:14 PM

they always kind of suck

Or it's because they puck can be ****ing hard to see at times.

Tyler 02-03-2008 08:30 PM

I hate hockey and I've never had a problem. Same for all the millions of other people in Canada and Europe who watch it.

They dont do that to any sports here or in england. Just a score and the time usually

Nostalgia 02-03-2008 08:31 PM

How many black people play hockey? Like, I'd really like to know.

Yeah, she was really good.

This game is great for being so low scoring. Giants are kicking *** on defense.

Exactly. We all know the average American is dumber than the dumbest Canadian.

When they're in the middle of the field, falling forward for a first down, you can't see the yard markers on the sidelines.

Tyler 02-03-2008 08:34 PM

I didn't say that. But the number of stupid americans watching sports v stupid canadians watching sport is pretty different, if only based on population.

and based on that, a lot of the americans watching sports are obviously too stupid to follow along without a little push here and there. there wouldn't be the demand for such things if viewers had more than four second attention span.

AA-12 02-03-2008 08:35 PM

I really doubt that has anything to do with nationality.

Canada's got hicks and religious nuts, too. Maybe not as many in some places, but they're still there. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the Anglo countries have the most cree-ay-shun-ism believers in the developed world. In other countries, that shit is restricted to small places like Jönköping.
I really doubt that has anything to do with nationality.

It doesn't. They aren't stupid because they're American. They're stupid because they're stupid. And they're watching these sports. And they're stupid. And they cant follow them or pay attention without hilarious overlays.

I'm not saying everyone watching the Super Bowl is too stupid. I'm saying a lot of them are.

pate 02-03-2008 08:38 PM

A lot of people doing anything are stupid.

A lot of people posting on mx are stupid, that's why we have the button that spells out to us "post quick reply" because we're too spoiled to know how to do it ourselves.
