you should thank god there's Metal Archives! It will make your research MUCH easier :)

DOH! You and your deleted posts :p
:p oopsies. I realy have to stop..

Yeah your right...it was just that I searched power metal and came up with 2000 + bands.

I might use this place now and try out a band at random everynow and then...or maybe not.

VileHunter 02-12-2006 10:26 AM

What is some death metal that I would like? I have heard a LOT, but the only bands I really liked are Nile and Cryptopsy... I also like Opeth... but imo, they are in no way, shape, or form death metal, although a lot of people say they are.

Shattered_Future 02-12-2006 10:29 AM
:-*

are you sure this is the correct spelling? I cant find them in Metal-Archives
Actually, it's Valkiria. :p

Almost looks like Spanish power metal, judging from some of the song titles.

You'd probably like Behemoth. Try their album Demigod.

Iron Bars 02-12-2006 04:10 PM

Thanks Iron Bars.

So I am looking for some more power metal that isn't really cheesy.

So far the stuff I have liked the most is either really close to speed metal, like Jag Panzer, or is really epic without being extremely cheesy like Blind Guardian.

I can't stand some of the newer Power Metal stuff that is an absolute cheese-fest.

Suggestions?

Apocalyptic Raids 02-12-2006 06:37 PM

Dungeon. I think I've mentioned them to you before. All their albums are good, though I like A Rise To Power most.

You could also try Demons & Wizards. It has Hansi's awesome vocals, but with nice thrashy riffage. Get the self-titled, the second album isn't nearly as good.

Pagan's Mind is a very good band IMO, they are a prog/power band, that sound similar to dream theater. I highly suggest you check them out.

I don't like Dream Theater at all, but if you highly suggest them I might give them a chance.

I'll check out Dungeon, I've put it off too long.

Cog. Particularly their Just Visiting EP's. It's quite good stuff. I actually have an album uploaded at the moment, so I could send you a link to download it if you post your e-mail.

Freezing Moon: I'll third the Dungeon suggestion.

Deftones. Check out White Pony first. Around the Fur has some really cool songs like Be Quiet and Drive but is alot less expirimental. Self-Titled has to grow on you but becomes really great.

Neurotoxin uploaded that for the Daily Upload last year. It was like if DT went Power Metal. I didn't like it much, but I don't get into the technical/progressive stuff much anymore.

It has better riffs than DT though. Not as much wankage either.

Done.

Stormrider 02-12-2006 07:11 PM
Some good underground PM:
Avalanch
Dark Moor
Kamelot (Not that Underground but I think you haven´t heard them)
Pagans Mind (More prog than PM but still a great listen)
Luca Turilli
Sinergy
Rata Blanca
Warcry
Eidolon
Hey Txus, I'll check those bands out anyways, but are any of them like Elements Part 1 cheesy ? Because that kind of cheesiness doesnt apeal to me much.

^Dream~Theater^ 02-12-2006 07:16 PM

For all of you looking for good PM. Even though they really aren't PM, id recommend Symphony X, their kinda PM/Mostly prog but definately worth the listen.

gillygan 02-12-2006 07:19 PM

Look at the first age of the thread.

Thanks for the recommendations a few pages back :)

dUSK 02-12-2006 09:03 PM

A few months ago I saw Australian War Metal mentioned somewhere. Anyone know what this is? And if so, can you recommend me some bands to check out?

Thanks.

Yeah, Rata Blanca and Warcry are very cheesy man, but the rest is all good IMO.

It's like, I think, a bit of a clash of thrash/death/black metal, which for some reason has ended up being identified as Australian and Canadian War Metal. I'm pretty sure Deströyer 666 (Australian) and Axis of Advance (Canadian) are counted amongst the bands identified so, so you could check them out. Deströyer 666 in particular are quite enjoyable.

Don't take any of what I said as gospel, though. Ideally, you should ask Terminal Spirit.

Ahh ok. Thanks. I already listen to Deströyer 666, and was content with labelling them as Thrash. I'll give Axis of Advance a listen tomorrow some time.

Who's Terminal Spirit?

Bartender 02-13-2006 09:17 AM

An '02 member, who pretty much lived in and around the death heads thread. He was in Canada, and was really knowledgeable, so pretty much anything to do with Canadian metal (and a lot outside of Canada) he could tell you about. He got himself a life though and doesn't come here any more.

dUSK 02-13-2006 09:19 AM

Yeah, I just searched the members list and he hasn't logged on for almost a year to the date.
