Has anyone heard Band on the Run by Paul McCartney's post beatles band Wings?

Its different to the Beatles but still very good.

Flaminghotchino 08-13-2005 06:54 PM
why hate Paul? Hes had the best solo career of them all
lol!

El_Goodo 08-13-2005 09:55 PM

Whoever said he hated Paul should not be in the Beatles thread. Because without Paul the Beatles wouldn't be what they were. And my favourite beatle is John! Paul had the most sucsesful solo career, but John had the best.
lol!
Be quiet, it's my opinion that he had the best after The beatles career too (I say after the beatles because that will include wings).

RubyTuesday 08-13-2005 11:59 PM

the white album is god-like and george harrison had the rockinest career- at least he didnt let his wife control his music *cough*john*cough*paul*

Queeter 08-14-2005 12:04 AM

I think that John had the best solo career by far. I think John's music was much more interesting and creative than Paul's. This could be due to the fact that I connect with John's ideals and songs more, though.

My favorite Beatles were always in this order: John, George, Paul, and then Ringo. I like John for his more "rocking" songs and interesting subject. George is my second favorite, because he is one of the best artist I've ever heard at writing "sensitive" type songs. I don't like Paul as much, because his songs seem overly sweet to me, although I do like some of his songs a lot. Ringo is my least favorite because he had the least amount of songs so you really can't judge him.

Yoko didn't control Johns music, just inspired some of it, and Linda McCartney didn't even want to be in music, Paul pressured her into it.

Leper 08-14-2005 12:12 AM

John's my favourite, and then i pretty much like the rest of them equally. John's songwriting has always astounded me though, and I think it only got better when paul suddenly had no say in their direction (john's songs i mean).

Flaminghotchino 08-14-2005 12:26 AM

I can't choose between John and George.

All I know is I hate paul.

and I can be in this thread and hate him. It's perfectly fine =)

I felt like I hated Paul for a while too. I realized though that some of his compositions were truly great (in my opinion) such as Lovely Rita, For No One, Blackbird and Helter Skelter.

I also had trouble between choosing between John and George for a while too. I eventually found that I liked John better though because he had so many more good songs. My favorite John songs are Happiness is a Warm Gun, A Day in the Life, Strawberry Fields Forever, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away and Norwegian Wood.

I hope you eventually start to like Paul, because he was a good songwriter and musician, even if he wasn't as good as John or George. So give some of those McCartney songs another chance and perhaps they'll grow on you and then you'll be able to enjoy even more of the Beatles' music.

Dude, get out. If it wasn't for Paul, there would be no Beatles. He was one of the best bassists who ever lived. Listen to the bass lines in Hello, Goodbye, Penny Lane, or just any other song. Listen how he sings and yet plays such a technical bass line at the same time. No one could do that at that time...

Oh, and I disagree that George had the best solo career. Most of his songs were religious and about life.

I think that John had the best solo career because his songs were abstract and you had to think about them. He also had the best voice, I think. (Him or Paul.)

The Taxman 08-14-2005 02:14 AM

I'm reading a lot of these posts and again, I am bewildered how much you guys single out Paul and say that you hate him. It makes me mad as hell! If you hate Paul, you're saying you hate the ****ing Beatles for crying out loud!

She didn't control his music like what lepper said, she inspired him. But John started acting more differnt when he was with her. He started use drugs a lot and he did that whole "naked" thing with her.

I used to dislike Paul for various reasons back when I was 10 and thought he was the cause of their break-up.
But more recently Paul and I have made ammends.

DeusExMachina 08-14-2005 08:19 AM

Taxman, learn how to edit posts.

People, if he says he hates Paul, he says he hates Paul. I don't know why he hates Paul, but don't go flipping out about it. I love Pink Floyd, I post in that thread VERY regularly, and I find that Roger Waters was a bit of a prick. I respect his songwriting abilities tremendously, but I don't like his character. Does that mean I can't post there? No. Paul is a very big liberal political activist, heavily into PETA and all that, and if someone doesn't agree with him personally, they have the right to say so. Now, like I said, I don't know why he said he doesn't like Paul, but at least try and find out if he has a decent reason before mindlessly telling him to leave my thread.

So, Rubber Soul... totally awesome, yes? I love You Won't See Me and Nowhere Man. Really awesome tracks, don't get much talk about. And about half of the other tracks on that album as well.

One of my favourite is Norwegian Wood. First song put on the radio with a sitar. :D

Let me rephrase this.

As a musician I respect paul for the most part. Of course the beatles wouldn't be the same, and I too really love some of pauls work.

As a person... He just seems annoying to me.. REALLY annoying.. Don't ask me why, prolly some trauma I had when I was younger. But he's always been my least favorite beatle. Just personality wise he has done some things I don't care much for.

Perhaps "hate" was too strong a word, but whatever.

What did Paul do to you that was annoying?

Illmatic 08-14-2005 10:40 PM

I also used to hate Paul, but I've made amends with him.

My least favorite is probably John. Don't get me wrong he was a terrific songwriter, but as a human being he annoyed the living hell out of me.

Leper 08-14-2005 11:05 PM

Ya guys, really if he hates Paul, then he hates Paul and he has a right to his opinion. Besides it doesn't hurt you any. In response to Rubber Soul, I love You Won't See Me, Nowhere Man, Girl, and Norwegian Wood, but a lot of the other stuff on there i think is below par.

Yeah he did the naked thing...be you have to be stupid to say he started to use drugs with Yoko. He did more drugs with the Beatles than he did with Yoko.

Well if he hates Paul then he doesn't really belong in a Beatles thread. Hating Paul would cancel out 90% of Sgt. Pepper, and probably more than 50% of The Beatles songs. The four of them together made the beatles what they were. So it doesn't seem right to like three of them...and also he didnt give any reason why he hates Paul. He just said I hate Paul all I know is I hate Paul...**** I hate Paul.

He said after, that he hates Paul's personality, and gave him credit for much of the Beatles work. I'm not that fond of Paul's personality either. I've been reading the Beatles "Anthology" and in many quotes Paul seems kind of stuck up. Though I must admit, he put on the best halftime show i've seen in a long time...except for Janet of course. :naughty:

Jacaranda 08-15-2005 12:40 AM

John's had quiet the ego himself... I've read some stuff about him trashing the Rolling Stones. But thats just the way John was, I still love him.

Ya John did have quite the ego, you can see some of that in HIS quotes too. I didn't hear about him trashing the Rolling Stones though. But I admire John Lennon way too much for his ego to bother me anyway.
