On a bit of an unrelated note - can anybody tell me all the members of The Band and what they played?
Also, any recommendations for songs/albums/recordings that I should look for of the Band? |
I wouldn't say as much JPJ. He's a decent bassist, and a great musician, but if we're talking skill, he's nothing next to Jack Bruce and Entwistle. Atleast I don't think so.

I wasn't sure if I should group him with Bruce and Entwistle, but JPJ is overlooked in Led Zeppelin too much, so that's what I was getting at. |

I wouldn't say that he's nothing compared to them. He's very good. But I agree that they are both better. |
Silvertide rules!!

Both revolutionized lead bass playing, aswell as Phil Lesh.

Lennon - Give Peace a Chance = Greatest verses ever!

^Ill Agree
Hendrix rocks as we all know. One of (not the greatest) guitarists of all time. My favorite album is electric ladyland. Everybody always says that Are you experienced is his best because of purple haze. I think that the music is just generally better on electric ladyland.
Anyone else agree?
No I think Are you Are you experienced is much better but Band of Gypsys is his best.........Has anyone herd the Blues Hendrix album? |
Yeah, his Blues is just okay to me.

Jimi Hendrix Is The Greatest Guitar Player Ever To Live He Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yayayayayayyayayyayayayyaywhoooooooooo He Ios The Best

I completely agree (about Classic Rock making a revival).
But I can't help but notice how a lot of you haven't mentioned Pink Floyd, a band composed entirely of gods of rock. |
Pink Floyd are the ultimate Gods of Classic Rock, and it does get discussed in here alot. However I muched prefered them with Syd Barret, which they only got one album done (Piper at the Gates of Dawn) before he went crazy, but he wrote most of their songs for the wall and other albums.
|
Bah, they don't mention Pink Floyd enough then.
|
Floyd, in general, is to depressing for my tastes. I do enjoy a few of there songs, like Wish your were hear and Money and all that, but I just can't listen to Welcom to the Machine. It gets me in such a bad mood.
|
Roger Waters wrote the Wall. |
Barrett wrote a few of the songs though.
|
I'm going to get my hair cut, when I come back I'm pulling out the vinyl to check the credits.
|
I just finished listening to Animals, and while it was some interesting music and such, I don't know if it's the "masterpiece" everyone makes it out to be. Perhaps I should listen to it some more before I really judge. However, I think I still much prefer WYWH and other albums to this one.
Also, am I the only one who doesn't like Meddle save for "Echoes" and "One of These Days"? |

Don't bother - I just found it online: http://www.pinkfloydonline.com/discography/thewall.html None of the credits are given to Barrett, only to Waters or Waters/Gilmour (and one with a guy named Erzin). So I don't think you're correct about Syd. |
Ok - he may not of written them himself, but I know that he had something to do with all the songs.

I think you're thinking of Wish You Were Here, an album dedicated to his memory by his bandmates. Although, I suppose The Wall's underlying messages about mental walls and such could apply to Barrett. |

Most probably :thumb: |
The Wall is an autobiography of Roger Waters. The only thing involving Barret were his traits that were insparation for many of the characteristics of the central character, Pink.
|
Syd is the true songwritter behind pink floyd!!!!!
|
Syd is the true songwritter behind pink floyd!!!!!
Considering he was there for only one album, I doubt it. |
I don't always care for Syd's writing.
