All I got to do was watch the end of the Closing of Winterland Dvd on PBS and watch some good parts of the UK's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee ceremony on VH1.

Good parts = Bob Dylan, The Who, The Kinks.
The Floyd part was cool too.

Leper 11-27-2005 01:44 AM

We had a team banquet tonight, and had a local band playing later on. I was impressed. They did a really good cover of Brown Eyed Girl. They also did an Eagles song, but I can't remember which one at the moment...

thickasabrick 11-27-2005 04:07 AM

Awesome to everything!

Our last performance of the school musical was tonight...I hosted the afterparty. it's four in the morning right now and I'm fairly drunk...but I'm fixing all my mistakes so no one gets angry. It as a fun night...I actually started finally getting drunk around the time everyone started leaving (I'm a slow drinker) but we got to listen to a Beach Boys Greatest Hits album (the party was at my house, so we listened to my vinyl all night) a Grease album (fun for drunken girls who I wanna see jiggle themselves around) and Abbey Road. Enough peolpe knew the lyrics fairly well enough so I could air guitar and single along and not feel like an idiot. Only one other person knew all the lyrics to Abbey Road though...but it was still awesome.

I finally took some albums from that pile I found at school, I decided to let some other friends in one the secret, so we had to split up the good albums. Umm....I'm too lazy to go look at what albums I got, only about five or six...I think a Neil Young one, a Clapton one, A Guess Who live one, a Willie Nelson one, ummm.....I don't remember anymore at the moment..I'll update when I'm not so lazy. I let a lot of my friends take the good ones because I already had most of them. There were a lot of crappy Disney soundtrack ones and stuff like that though.

I wanna see Paul Mcartney Live so badly...

edit - Oh yeah, and a Charlie Daniels Band one too....I can't remember any more though...

blue3 11-27-2005 05:41 AM

Is that the musical where you dance.
a Grease album (fun for drunken girls who I wanna see jiggle themselves around) and Abbey Road. Enough peolpe knew the lyrics fairly well enough so I could air guitar and single along and not feel like an idiot.
 Air guitaring is awesome.

You still should've took the crappy soundtracks and sold it or something. And who doesn't wanna see Paul McCartney live..

Spiritofmosa 11-27-2005 07:29 AM

damn recently ive been listening to led zeppelin , its amazing that dispite the lack of distortion it still sounds like good rock.

Broken Arrow 11-27-2005 09:06 AM

Thanks for those 13th Floor Elevator albums guys!

/has nothing else to add

DeusExMachina 11-27-2005 09:41 AM

Hey thickasabrick, what show did you do? At the cast party for my school's show, there was no alcohol, and lots of bad music. It was pretty lame. Also, do you have McCartney tickets, or did you miss them this time around?

Charlie Haden is awesome.

Broken Arrow 11-27-2005 10:13 AM

I dont believe Paul toured anywhere near him as he lives in Saskatchewan.(praires)

My school musical is pretty crappy. Its not that they don't have enough people or anything, its just the directing sucks, and they choose aweful plays.

Badmoon 11-27-2005 10:50 AM

Have any of you got that Matisyahu album from the Reggae/Dub mailing list?

Great artist, I'll send it out to all of you if you need me to.

Broken Arrow 11-27-2005 10:52 AM

Hook me up Moon.

Badmoon 11-27-2005 11:02 AM

It's been sent

I knew that was coming up because they kept showing David Gilmour, but I fell asleep.

I got Barenaked Ladies tickets for my birthday. Hurray for Canadian alternative pop rock.

Townshend talked about how the only time he's ever missed a Who show was to see Pink Floyd. He also said that him and Clapton went to go see Syd play and other stuff like that. The video they showed for them was pretty cool too, except for the Foo Fighters guy: "Yea man they're just great music to smoke pot too and not care about the world!"

I didn't even know that they were still going. They are the band that did that 'One Week' song, right?
I didn't even know that they were still going. They are the band that did that 'One Week' song, right?
Yep. They've been around for like fifteen years.

Stupid Foo Fighters guy.

I thought the Kinks recognition was pretty cool considering how underrated they are.

Did you see Townshend's man-purse?

The_Passenger 11-27-2005 12:20 PM
Yep. They've been around for like fifteen years.
Wow. I always thought that 'One Week' was their first single. I definitely didn't think that they're the sort of band who'd stick around for over a decade.

 Yea I saw him with the purse.

The Kinks one was really good. It makes me want to listen to more Kinks stuff. Any suggestions/sent outs?

Lunch 11-27-2005 12:29 PM

Stupid Townshend.

Village Green Preservation Society, Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround, and Arthur or the Decline of the British Empire are probably their three best albums.
I don't mean to be a bother but the link doesn't workk for me.
Well, I cannot re-upload it now. Sorry, maybe you'll get it some other time.

Broken Arrow 11-27-2005 01:03 PM

Yeah, I'll have to imagine what it was like.

Those are the three Kinks albums I have.

JonG 11-27-2005 01:36 PM

I'm in love with Velvet Underground's "Loaded". Such a good album. I think I like VU and Nico more though..

Jacaranda 11-27-2005 01:43 PM

Bah, Loaded is so much better for the simple reason of "O Sweet Nothin". And Loaded only has one song I don't really like, which is "Lonesome Cowboy Bill".
Wow. I always thought that 'One Week' was their first single. I definitely didn't think that they're the sort of band who'd stick around for over a decade.
They're not bad. They're the kind of band that the other songs on the cd (besides the hits) are the really good ones.

That may be. It's just that it's normally the other way round to that.

True. All I used to hear was the hits on the radio in the car and stuff, never got into them or anything, but I got an album of theirs for xmas a few years back and really enjoyed it.

I love Lonesome Cowboy Bill.

:o

My freind lent me the Cream Reunion CD, and its definitly as good as they say. Bruce still dominates the bass guitar, and his vocals haven't taken a hit, Baker has gotten better over time, and Clapton can still wail like anything. Two CD's of pure bliss.

magicbus 11-27-2005 05:21 PM

I think I might get the Cream Reunion dvd for Christmas. Which reminds me, Wednesday at 9 on PBS, they're showing the Cream reunion show, and then after that at 11 is the Concert For Bangladesh.

I'm only a few songs into Arthur (or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire), but I really like it a lot. Is it supposed to be a concept album?

I haven't listened to the Village Green Preservation Society yet, but I also found that one.

Also, check out my awesome avatar.

check out my awesome avatar.

Arthur is my favourite Kinks album and yes I think it is a concept album.

Lunch 11-27-2005 05:31 PM

Arthur is a concept album, I think similar to the idea behind Village Green Preservation Society. Something about British life and nostalgia, etc.

Lola is their most interesting concept album to me. It's about the music industry and how rock was becoming like a formula for success.

I made my George Santa but it didn't work out to well. I'm going to try again, maybe with a different pic.

Wednesday is going to be an awesome night.

Arthur is a concept album, my favorite Kinks album too. Village Green is awesome too and I need Lola vs. Powerman.

Lunch 11-27-2005 05:36 PM

I can send out Lola if a few people are interested.

Pretty cool place I found around eBay. Has some cool designs from rare bands and stuff not normally found on t-shirts.

Yes please. I couldn't find Lola on Slsk.

Robo, or anybody else for that matter, I'll help you Christmasize your avatar if you want.

Broken Arrow 11-27-2005 05:39 PM

Cool QMS one and some cool blues artists too!

Lunch 11-27-2005 05:41 PM

I know, I was excited when I first found it. The designs get printed on to a white shirt from what I understand.
