what ever happened to punk of the month?
Died due to lack of interest, everybody thought it was stupid.

Shtein 07-24-2005 06:38 PM
I've got the format down I think.

Everyone will give their Top 15 bands. The Top 100 of those (counted by number of times they are said) will be put into 10 polls of 10. Then the top 3 from each of those polls will be up in 3 polls of ten, then the top 3 will be put together in the 9 band final poll. There will be tiebreaker polls as needed. After the final poll, it will be put in the top 100 order.
So no categories?

Brain Toad 07-24-2005 06:40 PM
So no categories?
Is there 100 Anarcho bands? Or 100 modern hardcore bands (80s hardcore will be included in punk, because it is still hardcore punk). Only cateogires I can think of that will have enough bands are Punk, Hardcore (modern mainly, but 80s too), Ska, and Pop-Punk.

StruckEverywhere 07-24-2005 06:43 PM
If I don't split anything, they will be included, if I do, new hardcore bands would be discluded (word?) such as Carry On, Champion etc
Why? 100 bands is a shitload.

Lollercaust 07-24-2005 06:44 PM

Is this going to be like Reiner's voting threads?

ScuzzBucket89 07-24-2005 06:44 PM

http://www.myspace.com/pinstripemelee

everyone should check out this excellent ska/punk band, goin to see 'em wed.

Shtein 07-24-2005 06:47 PM
Why? 100 bands is a shitload.
Everything is top 100 or 50 but 100 top punk albums sounds good seeing how everyone picks their 15 top fav. bands.

Brain Toad 07-24-2005 06:47 PM

I think I have this figured out. Here are the categories I'm planning

Punk - Will include Ska-punk, Hardcore-punk (80s hardcore, not modern), punk, anarcho, street, oi, Pop-punk, etc. Will not include bands that cannot be discussed here.
Hardcore - Will inclcude Hardcore-punk and modern hardcore
Ska - All waves
Pop-punk - Self-explainitory.

cheeser_1 07-24-2005 06:48 PM

this is going to cause alot of genre disagreement, i called it now.

Lollercaust 07-24-2005 06:51 PM

No. I'll be the official genre policeman.

"Ska-punk" would include bands such as streetlight, Mu330?

Lollercaust 07-24-2005 06:52 PM

Yes. Third-wave

-genre policeman

Brain Toad 07-24-2005 06:52 PM
"Ska-punk" would include bands such as streetlight, Mu330?
Yes, all 3rd wave bands (besides ones that have older wave sounds, like The Slackers, The Toasters)

Shtein 07-24-2005 06:54 PM

alright, I know who I'm voting for, now if you guys will excuse me im going to go get my fix on Family Guy in 5minutes.

ScuzzBucket89 07-24-2005 06:55 PM
Yes, all 3rd wave bands (besides ones that have older wave sounds, like The Slackers, The Toasters)
I can see that getting confusing

Brain Toad 07-24-2005 06:56 PM
I can see that getting confusing
Yeah. I'll just say Ska-punk, no wave stuff. Most people understand the term ska-punk. Bands that don't qualifiy and are voted will be put in a list on the first post, and not counted.

So top 100 for each of these genre's?

Shtein 07-24-2005 06:58 PM

So all Ska 1st, 2nd, 3rd wave will fall under ska punk?

Brain Toad 07-24-2005 06:59 PM
So top 100 for each of these genre's?
Yeah. It may be best to leave pop-punk and hardcore to their respective forums, so I may put them in there.

I'm thinking for punk, since modern hardcore is not included because it has its place in the hardcore poll, pop-punk will not be in the main punk one, but borderline bands will exist (Rancid, Nofx, The Adicts, etc)

Brain Toad 07-24-2005 07:03 PM
So all Ska 1st, 2nd, 3rd wave will fall under ska punk?
No, you misunderstood. Ska-punk is the third wave, but there is third wave bands that arent ska punk (Toasters, Slackers, Hepcat). I won't use wavbes, I'll just say ska-punk can be in the punk one. The other waves won't be allowed,as they have no punk influence ie like the top 100 albums.

StruckEverywhere 07-24-2005 07:05 PM

Or... alternatively you could do one massive poll incorporating all these genre's. Just a thought.

Brain Toad 07-24-2005 07:07 PM
Or... alternatively you could do one massive poll incorporating all these genre's. Just a thought.
That would end up having hardcore kids getting a hardcore band to pass punk bands that are better punk, but aren't liked by hardcore kids.

StruckEverywhere 07-24-2005 07:11 PM

Exactly :)

Shtein 07-24-2005 07:13 PM

alright

Brain Toad 07-24-2005 07:13 PM
Exactly :)
Alternatively the same thing could happen with pop-punk kids.

StruckEverywhere 07-24-2005 07:20 PM

Well... maybe you could take the top ten from each of the genre's and put them together to get one conclusive top ten.

Brain Toad 07-24-2005 07:22 PM

Seperatiung genres = less bands = less work

StruckEverywhere 07-24-2005 07:29 PM

Yes, but you live on the internet, would it really be that hard?

I nearly went insane doing the top 100 posters. Literally. I was about to strangle people to death for making too much noise while I was doing it.

Well I still say after we've done the top 100 for each genre, we take the top ten of each and make one mixed genre poll.

Anxious 07-24-2005 07:45 PM

Make Reiner count them.

cheeser_1 07-24-2005 07:46 PM

please don't put the pop-punk bands in that forum. it would be a travesty.

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 07-24-2005 07:46 PM

So I notice my audioscrobbler got extremly messed up on the weekly count thing.

Brain Toad 07-24-2005 07:47 PM

Haha, then it would never get done.
