Did I miss something? Is there any reason for you to have been?
I've not said anything, so you haven't missed it. For a multitude of reasons, I've missed more or less every single one of my tutorials this semester, and last week I got a letter telling me I was being excluded from assessment on two of my modules (Theoretical Philosophy and Philosophy of the Mind, the two which are discussed in tutorials), which would have meant I couldn't carry on at university; unless I could give good reason in a meeting with the director of undergraduate studies within two weeks of the letter being sent. I met the guy today, finally, and it started out pretty frostily, because all the records said was that I had missed so many tutorials, which equated rather simply to exclusion from a module. He carried on checking out my records though, and saw that all my essays have been in on time, all my marks have been okay, I've been attending more or less all my lectures and seminars - everything other than tutorials was okay. So he figured there was something specific stopping me going to tutorials. In the end, he just said basically that they won't kick me out now, because I'm doing okay, but to get whatever it is sorted out and start attending tutorials, because if I don't, then they will kick me out. So it was a weight off my mind. And to think there are atheists in the world. |
Thanks, Bobo :)

Bartender, you strike me as one of the most intelligent posters here.
Are you too smart for the tutorials? :p I just realized that I should check my tire pressure and oil level in my car. Should I do this today, or tomorrow before I leave? The gas and air station is right across my uni. |

"blissful"?
This is an improvement for Vinny. |

Speaking of atheists,
Bartender, do you know which mod closed my religious beliefs thread in The Pit? I don't mind that it got closed, it's just bizarre because there was little to no spam in it and people were giving genuine feedback. My guess it was Joshmay after he did those three and one-day bans, but I'm not sure. EDIT: Eitri, thanks :) |

No problem. Though I find it ironic that I responded to that, as I don't drive.. Yet. |
"blissful"?
Bart: clarify distinction between tutorial, lecture and seminar please.
A lecture is where there's limited interaction between the teacher/lecturer and the students/audience. Basically a prepared talk on a subject (often one in a series at university, though touring lecturers and speakers can do one-offs). At my university, they're fifty minutes long (from five past the hour til five to the hour), and usually take plave in a lecture theatre. The difference between tutorials and seminars is a little less clear. They both fulfil the same function, really, just for different parts of the course, and in slightly different ways. The tutorials are more 'solid' in the way they're arranged, I suppose. We have a tutor (mine's called Angelo, and he's Italian), and the tutorial time is set throughout both semesters, so I would go for my tutorial with Angelo at the same time (Thursdays, 9am) this semester as last (or I would, if Angelo weren't messing around in Italy; we have another Italian in place, called Marco); these tutorials discuss two topics, the two main topics of the core modules in each semester. Seminars are more or less the same as tutorials, except they're arranged on a semesterly basis depending on which modules you're taking, and are less frequent (fortnightly, instead of weekly). Other than that, the only real difference seems to be that for seminars, each group gets the same teacher (the module leader). Tutorial groups have individual tutors.
Bart: I am an Athiest /afterthough
Yeah. You know what I meant though, right? |

What are you taking in University Bartender?
I'm sixteen and I'm already being pressured into deciding what I want to take in University. A few teachers have talked to me about University classes I could take next year (I'll be in grade 12), and my local University keeps sending me letters telling me all this crap about scholarships and courses and stuff. I don't even know what I want to do when I'm older, I'm fairly sure I will go to University, but I have no clue what I want to take. |
wow this thread has gotten so outta control!
I just got back form school after posting like 5 hours earlier and it grew saooo long.. this si sick! |
Explanation
Yeah. You know what I meant though, right?
Oh, ok. All of my classes are pretty small, except for one, but we only have lectures I guess, though larger physics classes have recitations as well. Luckily mine is a 9 person class  Yeah, I was just saying...I don't remember why though. |

Also, that Dizzee track has nothing on the guilty pleasure I just listened to...I'm too embarrassed to even name it. :upset: |

Yeah..I now have an essay to do though. If I'd been excluded from assessment, I could have just forgotten about it and gone to bed. It's going to be crap, since it's in for tomorrow, and I'm still sick :( I suppose this is kind of like complaining about hospital bills for tests which confirm there's nothing wrong with you, though. |
I'm taking Philosophy.
That lends itself nicely to a post-college career. |
It does? Which?
Seriously, it'd be nice to know. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. |
Bartender: You're one of the cool people in school now, almost kicked out.
I hope they don't do that in my University, I skip quite a few tutorials. Zep : *Atheist |
