Martyr AD are one of those 'borderline' bands who mix melodic death metal with metalcore, and they seem to embrace the 'core' aspects a lot more than the metal aspects. In the three years it has taken the band to release this album, is seems as though not much has changed, aside from maybe a wussier vocalist. The formula they seem to follow would be thus: have a hardcore sreamer screaming atop aggressive riffs that chug along with the bass drum, with occasional The Haunted inspired riffs thrown in for flair. Not very impressive.
After the useless, and thankfully short intro, the song 'Bring Out Your Dead' sets the pace for the rest of the cd. In otherwords, the whole bloody album sounds the same. There are some pretty ok riffs, nothing that really stands out though. There are far too many breakdowns chugged along on the downtuned E string, a lot of them sounding very familiar. Take, for example, the breakdown in Bring Out Your Dead. It's practically identical to that of Killswitch Engage's intro to Life to Lifeless. Pretty weak stuff, Killswitch Engage isn't that great of a band to rip-off in the first place.
So, Martyr AD really have no musical identity, and are just a generic sort of metalcore band. Unless you are a fan allready, or are really into this style of music, I would suggest you put this on your list of albums to avoid, or just get their first album if you are really set on wasting some money.
MA has the worst reviews. Yeah, this band totally aped THE HAUNTED and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. LOL.
