Destroy All Girls 03-02-2011 06:05 PM

yo austin I need some ambient albums to study to

nothing too dark, preferably a slight melodicism but nothing that'll really yank my attention away. thinking along the lines of Saito Koji's Beautiful

Nepenthe 03-02-2011 06:11 PM

if i may interject i've really been digging talvihorros' music in four movements, right up the alley you're looking for. secede - trysashla and olan mill - pine all fit the bill too.

and i heard nepenthe's corona is awesome

Destroy All Girls 03-02-2011 06:13 PM

more the merrier, thanks

also how did I post that album art in the wrong thread I swear Tyler's post was right above it when I submitted

Bitchfork 03-02-2011 08:51 PM

i heard that unfathoms has some good stuff sounds really shitty to me though

thomas koner-permafrost
william basinski-melancholia (esp if you want beautiful-esque pieces - a precursor to that album)
Emeralds - Allegory of Allergies

Destroy All Girls 03-02-2011 09:51 PM

cheers
cheers
yup

Nepenthe 03-03-2011 05:57 PM

haven't listened to ulver in so long

a quick fix of melancholy stills gives me goosebumps

Txus 03-03-2011 08:42 PM

have you heard their new song, anthony? sounds like the cure, really good shit

Nepenthe 03-03-2011 08:44 PM

it kinda sucks really hoping the rest of the album isn't like it

Txus 03-03-2011 08:48 PM

i really hope it sounds like that tbh, i liked it

fuck you :(

Nepenthe 03-03-2011 09:58 PM

it's really generic. i've heard like 50 bands from the 70's and 80's that sound exactly like that except more interesting.

terrible when considering how groundbreaking ulver has been throughout their career

Txus 03-03-2011 10:04 PM

i love garms voice, hah

i'm really looking forward to the album tbh

Nepenthe 03-03-2011 10:05 PM

i mean i'm looking forward to it just bc that song is a cover and i think the rest of the album will not be quite so much like it. but we will see. i have faith.

Deth 03-03-2011 10:10 PM

didn't like the new ulver after one listen, with anthony on the track

Txus 03-03-2011 10:12 PM

maybe every other song sounds like Porn Piece or the Scars of Cold Kisses

Drugstep 03-03-2011 11:15 PM

hey europe

are you ready for this

Bitchfork 03-05-2011 03:56 PM

as soon as you listen to those 10 albums bro

Nepenthe 03-05-2011 05:11 PM

why do you have a bartering system with recommendations it's like it doesn't really affect ppl whether or not you listen to what they think you will like it's for your own good you act like recommendations are some good to be traded or something

RouteOne 03-05-2011 05:31 PM

Der Blutharsch's best vid is finally on youtube

That was pretty good. I've been meaning to check these guys out for ages.

Destroy All Girls 03-05-2011 10:23 PM

yeah they are pretty hit or miss, the stuff I like, I really like though. get their first few albums at least
why do you have a bartering system with recommendations it's like it doesn't really affect ppl whether or not you listen to what they think you will like it's for your own good you act like recommendations are some good to be traded or something
I don't, everything I get recommended I put in a list and eventually get to it. I was only half joking with Bitchfork when I requested he remove that "Austin, Ambient Authority of Sputnik" thing from his profile on the review site in return for actually listening to some of his recs, every time i've had a discussion with him he namedrops five new bands and i've never bothered to listen to any of them.

I have a pretty systematic way of listening to new music. I usually pick an artist and run through their discography, have a break every 3 or 4 albums in to select something at random i've had sitting there for a while I haven't listened to. Hoarding stuff is good for this purpose, I only listen to 3 or 4 new albums a week though. Hence why I very rarely ask for recommendations, and seem to take forever to get to them. Not that I don't appreciate them, music discussion on here wouldn't have much point otherwise.

Nepenthe 03-06-2011 12:21 AM

i was talking to bitchfork lol

in reference to:
as soon as you listen to those 10 albums bro
and how every time somebody is like 'oh yeah you'll like this artist' he's always responds with 'only after you listen to that one i told you about' it's like wtf

Destroy All Girls 03-06-2011 03:29 AM

can we discuss trip-hop here
