interesting. john robinson is solid (sometimes a bit too much like nas tbh), so hopefully good producers make him shine more than mf doom did... who is this man was pretty mediocre on the production end.

btw, that Pax & Pry album is really f*cking good... i'm gonna review that tomorrow.

ATM 03-09-2009 10:53 PM

I'll check it out. I spoke with another DJ at the station about getting Blu and Exile in for a performance. He said that he recently interviewed Blu so he might be able to help me make it happen.

JonG 03-10-2009 04:00 PM

GZA is performing Liquid Swords to open up this festival in April..

Yeah, I can't wait.

sgrevs 03-10-2009 08:00 PM

Been listening to so much instrumental stuff lately, ie Madlib, Flying Lotus, Prefuse 73. Such great stuff.

kingsoby1 03-11-2009 08:28 AM

you check out the new prefuse yet? it's not as good as his earlier stuff imo, but amazing cover art.

kingsoby1 03-12-2009 12:50 AM

I haven't yet but I will soon.

ATM 03-12-2009 07:38 AM

I'm putting together a freestyle battle/ performance called Rap Leagues. It's going to be sick. I'm planning on it being a 32 man tournament. The performers are going to be The Five One, Rosetta Stoned, Panacea, Substantial, and maybe Louis Logic. I'm going to try and ger Blu and Exile because they will be in town.

I'm so excited for this ****.

Also, check out the video from Cake and Kisses party I went to last Thursday:

R&B and Hip Hop is my life so if you don't really live it there isn't much you can say about it!

Kyle 03-16-2009 01:50 PM

yay, think we persuaded MX to trial a hip hop forum. You better all post!

New DOOM is awesome, btw.

(*The Noonward Race*) 03-16-2009 05:29 PM

yeah that's pretty dope i think so as well

edit: about the hiphop forum

kingsoby1 03-17-2009 01:30 PM

i'm not really liking it too much... it's more of the same imo. not really worth the wait.

pixiesfanyo 03-17-2009 01:58 PM

Surf 03-17-2009 02:07 PM

a while back someone posted an Erykah Badu remix with Pharoahe Monch which was really good.

anyone got a proper link other than youtube? can't seem to find it anywhere else

niobium 03-17-2009 03:17 PM

this thread it had clout, but the new forum after a new description should be a little better this time around

gaslightanthem 03-17-2009 05:36 PM

I know I'm bringing up old sh1t but I must say this list is a classic.
Just add early A Tribe Called Quest, Leaders Of The New School and Black Sheep and that's early 90's GOLD.

kingsoby1 03-18-2009 02:04 PM

it's good to bump old school recs every couple pages, so new lurkers can check them out.

man, i really wish doom didn't take years to release this blah stuff

ATM 03-18-2009 02:38 PM

I still need to hear it.

My freestyle competition is coming together nicely!

Going to have performances by Rosetta Stoned, The Five One, and G-5 Clive.

horseypie 03-18-2009 06:25 PM

i finally got labor days by aesop rock today after hearing you guys mention it all the time, and its really really good. i think no regrets is the best song on it after a couple of listens but this whole album is really cool

eliminaturd 03-19-2009 04:45 PM

SugarCoatedSour 03-19-2009 04:50 PM

new rap/hip-hop sucks

nevertoolate 03-19-2009 05:13 PM
new rap/hip-hop sucks
as my earlier post clearly shows...........

Kyle 03-19-2009 10:19 PM

I hear what you guys are saying about the new DOOM, i guess his style is pretty lazy and he's hardly treading any new ground. But I still think it's decent, and cool to hear new stuff from him anyways. Really just want Madvillain 2 or Ghost/DOOM albums now.

I'm either really out of touch with new hip hop or this year has been weak. Any tips for decent '09 hip hop albums?

kingsoby1 03-20-2009 05:01 PM

Usually the first couple months are when hiphop hibernates.

But... there's some good **** so far... check the reviews site Hip-hop section for some recs. Mainly, Pax & Pry, POS, Platinum Pied Pipers (soul).

Iai 03-21-2009 05:41 AM

lol eliminator likes the cult

SgtPrimus 03-22-2009 09:19 AM

SgtPrimus 03-22-2009 01:33 PM

Are you from Atlanta, or do you just like Atlanta Hip Hop. I'm guessing it is the first, but where do you find out about all of it?

ATM 03-22-2009 01:47 PM

I just like Atlanta hip-hop. I discovered SMKA and Proton and which both have sick mixtapes and then just went from there.

SgtPrimus 03-22-2009 02:19 PM

Oh ok. I had never heard of either till you posted them up here, and both are good.

ATM 03-22-2009 02:21 PM

My favorite are SMKA, Proton, Hollyweerd, and Grip Plyaz.

Detective Dan 03-22-2009 02:39 PM

hey I've been out of the hip/hop scene for a bit now

what's some recent stuff that I need to hear

kingsoby1 03-22-2009 03:45 PM
