All right I loved Deltron, Dr. Octagonecologyst, and Bombay the Hard Way. What's some other awesome stuff Dan the Automator's done?
Handsome Boy Modeling School

sgrevs 01-28-2008 01:35 AM

HBMS is so good. White People is sweet.

ATM 01-28-2008 12:42 PM

I love Dan the Automater but I really couldn't get into 2K7.

Interstate 01-28-2008 12:44 PM

I really should check out Dan The Automator at some point.

Tyler 01-28-2008 12:45 PM

Im sure you've heard his music without realizing it.

There it is ^^

Iai 01-28-2008 03:41 PM

Handsome Boy are devastatingly inconsistent, though. They have some great songs, but a load of crap too.

I'm listening to Stankonia. I'd forgotten how much I liked this when it came out, and how crushed I was when that double album turned out to be mostly wank.

I probably have at some point. What album would you recommend to start out with?

DaveSavesTheDay 01-28-2008 08:29 PM

Just listened to some Aesop Rock for the first time today. It's pretty awesome stuff. Pretty intense lyrically.

I really hope you're not referring to the Love Below. Definitely something different, but amazing.

Which album/songs?

sgrevs 01-29-2008 01:46 AM

Speakerboxxx/The Love Below has some excellent stuff but is pretty inconsistent.

Iai 01-29-2008 09:06 AM

It has one excellent song, two okay ones, and a buttload of shit. It has nothing to do with it being 'different' and everything to do with it being 'terrible'.

I really like Aesop Rock but I don't get why so many people are turned off by how weird he is. I don't actually think he's that odd.

Tyr 01-29-2008 09:11 AM

Aesop Rock is really good.

gmoneyguy 01-29-2008 12:18 PM

You're tellin me, brother.

It usually takes a few listens to really appreciate it. I know I didn't like it for the first year or so after I bought it. I'm not too into Speakerboxxx though. The love below's appeal isn't in that it's trying to be different, it just sounds good and is different.

40 oz 2 freedom 01-29-2008 02:40 PM

Speakerboxxx is so underrated. Big Boi is just generally underrated.

Aesop Rock is no good

almost as good as the Brian Wilson rap. Heard that yet?
I like Doom's beats but his flow is annoying as ****.
Late, but I agree. It gets old hearing him sound like he just woke up. His Viktor Vaugh **** is a lot better in regards to how he actually executes it, but it's a lot more standard.

ATM 01-29-2008 03:21 PM

Wow, I thought Doom was fairly well liked around here. I guess I could see how he could get annoying, but I find his style refreshing.

I just think he gets old pretty fast. His style is refreshing to a point.

I think he's a better rapper than Andre 3000, but I really haven't given speakerboxxx that many listens. He's the sh*t on Atliens thuogh.

Aesop is certainly not everyone's cup of tea. I've always been a big fan.

I feel like Dooms beat's on his non madlib stuff are pretty easy to digest at first and the superhero/comic book gimmick was cool for awhile, but nothing in his music really grew on me, and I just got tired with his voice and his non sequitor pretentious lyrics.

It's a struggle I go back and forth with trying to decide who I like more Andre of Big Boi.

ATM 01-29-2008 10:25 PM

They are totally different though, no real reason to determine that one is better then the other.

pulseczar 01-30-2008 07:33 PM

MF Doom's best is his debut album, he has a really raw energy that he never captured again, but Viktor Vaughn has a similar feel. I used to really like Madvillainy, but it gets old kind of quickly besides a few awesome tracks. His now more low key delivery works better with his flashy beats (or Dangermouse's) rather than the offbeat stoner jumbled feel of Madvillainy.

sgrevs 01-30-2008 08:06 PM

I love Madvillainy, but I'm currently listening to Take Me To Your Leader properly for the first time and I'm really liking it. I think in time it could definitely grow to be me favourite Doom.

However, there is a major reason to determine that Aquemini is Outkast's best album - because it is. :thumb:
