Why if not did they all of a sudden avoid any kind of complication in their music
The main beef I have with your post is this bit. Not playing complicated music does not mean selling out. That's what pop-punk is. They play simple music because they want to, not to make money. Their genre is simple. That's just the way it is.

guns_of_brixton 09-27-2005 07:58 PM

Blink's first few albums with more complicated guitar parts and percussion were their best though. Easily.

I think the first post got half answered with the second.

Don't tell me pop-punk is simple, that doesn't have anything to do with my post. I said they avoided any complication later. They have always been pop-punk (except S-T) and they sold out. Again, get over it.

Yes, I agree with you Sean.

"We've done the same things that we were doing in the begining, and we never wanted our band to stay small. I mean, we want our band to be as big as it can, and I'm not going to die wondering about some kid that calls us a sell-out at a show. I don't have a problem being on MTV, and I don't have a problem being on the radio. I actually like it. So there. And anyone that calls me a sell out is just jealous."
-Mark Hoppus

That should clear up what they think about it. Anyways, this whole time I've basically been arguing that they didn't sell out because they 1) didn't really change their style, 2) acted the same from beginning to stardom, 3) like all musicians, dreamed of the opportunity to go big, and took it when they got it. To me and many others, that's not really selling out. However, at this point, I think it's best that we simply agree to disagree and move on with the thread rather than debate to the end of time.

why-was-i-banned 09-28-2005 02:09 AM

They are not sellouts, metallica are sellouts.

10571z 09-28-2005 04:52 AM

Who cares if they soldout..... i dont care i still like them.... so stop having little crys and pretend your all hardcore..... and just listen to the music.....

10571z 09-28-2005 06:19 AM
One of the main reasons people say they sold out on Enema is because of the 'Cleaner production' of the major labels. If they recorded Enema with the same production as dude ranch, I doubt the same amount of people would be saying they sold out.
thats exacatly true.......... the recording makes the album sound more popish than its really is.....

trust me i have a very very very very very very very very rare enema of the state demo .... it even has a instrumental track called life is so boring... but anwyays its a demo of the songs they were about tol do about buddha quailty and i can tell you songs like what my age again and aliens exist dont sound popish watsoever.... ill try and find it but i had to get **** off my comp and again its on a disk :(.... i have millions around cant find it

plaidbassbilly 09-28-2005 06:22 AM

I have that too. It's got this really poor version of Man Overboard on it, I'm so glad they didn't keep that version.

True. You can easily access every single song Blink has ever released. It's quite creepy actually.
I got a torrent ages ago, and it includes B-sides to every single, so I have live versions that have been released, as well as every studio recorded song.
Like the other version of The Country Song, found at the end of Wasting Time (live) on the Josie single. I find it is a bit funnier than the original, with lyrics as : "Take off your pants sister, I want to use my schlong to pop your ten foot blister, oh I know it feels so good. Take off your pants cousin, I saw your nipples, you have a dozen, 'cause I know it feels so good".
It's probably just because I like the word schlong.

It isn't that creepy, it's just because they are such a huge band. I still need to find Marks' demo he made in high school.

Right now on the podcast, Mark is interviewing TBS at the studio where they are recording the new album. It's not very interesting at the moment to be honest. He's played 2 songs, and it's 13 minutes in.

10571z 09-28-2005 07:34 AM

ok so im wrecked ....

but who else has the demo released between flyswatter and buddha hands up ???

chumpradio 09-28-2005 07:36 AM

I used to have Mark's demo, but I lost it when I lost my old hard disk, and the torrent didn't have it again. It was terrible quality though, so I don't really miss it. It was on a fansite, I think it may have been BlinkATS before it shut down.
Mark's podcasts are alright, it was cool just finding out that TBS are actually in the studio now.

And 1057 guy, I have got that demo.

Untitled 09-28-2005 07:42 AM

I have had all there demos at one point or another. Its part of me being the sites blink-182 uber fan

Post the tracklisting. If it's the one with the different version of "Voyeur", then yes, I do have it

16 Nipples 09-28-2005 09:09 AM

I have that demo, its good, a lot of songs are untited though. There is one Blink piece that is still VERY VERY rare, and that is the ORIGINAL Flyswatter Cassete tape. There was only a handful made for friends and family. I know you can download the songs and buy fake CD'S and cassetes off ebay, but hardly anyone has the original Flyswatter Demo Cassette. I dont anyywaz

16 Nipples 09-28-2005 09:10 AM

Also why would making their music less complicated make themselves more popular?

chumpradio 09-28-2005 09:12 AM

Nope, that's known as the Buddha Promo Tape. The one he is talking about is a different demo, with two untitled songs and one called Better Days, and then the rest are available in other forms.

albert_bass 09-28-2005 09:20 AM
Also why would making their music less complicated make themselves more popular?
It's not only less complicated it adds a pop feeling to it. They sacrificed guitar riffs to add catchy melodies and choirs.

Whatever, I'm not going to discuss anymore, it seems I won't convince you. Besides he says he wanted to be popular, and if you follow their career it's clear they changed they sound to be popular. For the fifth time this is not a bad thing but my definition of selling out is to change your sound in order to be popular. You're not going to make me change that.

Bad Blood 09-28-2005 10:51 AM

Basically people who listen to pop have simple minds (:p) and they like simple things. Plus: Simple Riffs/Melodies are catchy.

I agree with Albert on this one.

Yeah okay Ill drop it aswell lol, one last post. I agree with you on the definition of selling out, I just dont think Blink drastically changed their sound to get more popular. Anywayz I know my goal for my band is to get more fans etc

Of course you agree, only close-minded fanboys could not agree with it.

No pun intended but these are my thoughts, if you follow my posts you should know I like to be honest.

10571z 09-28-2005 06:04 PM

hmmm i actually wouldnt say there music got more simple.... riffs like Whats my age again, dumpweed are just has hard/easy as carousel ,wasting time. But m+ms thats ****ing hard to play

Chris, you don't know how much I will love you(in a non-sexual way of course) if you upload some Blink rarities too. I was about to do it myself, but I would have to download them first then tell everyone about them.

Well, if you don't remember my e-mail its punk_1025@hotmail.com

Thank You So Much(If you do it)!!!

DJ Ducksauce 09-28-2005 09:00 PM

I wouldn't mind the blink rarities also. I saw that you have lots of JEW. Could you send me Bleed American?

AAlfeche@aol.com

Thanks in Advance! :thumb:

Independent_CA 09-28-2005 11:12 PM

As for the sell-out argument, lets just end it. Calling someone a sell-out is about as pointless and profound as callings someone a fag. It means nothing.
