Does anybody in here know why Pink Floyd did so many movie sound tracks.
Movie directors approached them asking for them to do the soundtrack to their films and offering them a lot of money for it. So, they did them. |

Well that makes sense, they just seem to do it a lot more then most bands. |

Well, those movies were not really commercially friendly, they were more like abstract films. And Pink Floyd, being a cult band and doing this experiments with music, were approached by these sort of people. |

True that makes even more sense. I really like Obscured by Clouds, The Gold in The.......is an awsome track. |
Hey, I might go to buy a new Pink Floyd CD today.
Recomendations? |
There is something strange about OBC, I just cant put my finger on it. Maybe I need to see the movie...
|
I just picked up Saucerful of Secrets yesterday, I like a few of the songs, but there are some pretty weak tracks on it I think. I'm probably gonna pick up PATGOD next.

You're in for a surprise with PATGOD. When I got it, I had on my mind that it wasn't like the Pink Floyd I knew, but I didn't expect it to be so... extemely different. Think of it as getting an album from an entirely different band that you know nothing about. |
Yes, PATGOD is a different feel, and not just because Syd is on guitar.
|
I have a n00b question: What albums had Syd on them?
|
i just heard another brick in the wall and darkside of the moon and they are ****ing great, and i was wondering if somebody could recommend me some good songs about them
thanx |

 Well can't argue against that. |
I used to think that Brain Damage was called Dark Side of the Moon too.

pink floyd is one of the few bands that actually gets away with being super pretentious, because they revolutionized the way people look at songs as opposed to albums and single. before floyd really albums were just the best 10 or so song the band was working on at the time. pink floyd made an album as one unit which makes them great. you couldnt have a song from atom heart mother on animals or something, it wouldnt work. theres my 2 cents
happy first post me |

Wow. I missed a lot in a day. What's the conversation right now?
|
Eh...didnt miss that much. Ive been in this thread and havent seen an interesting converstation, but more focused on early floyd though.
Not long from now, ill probably be out of these forums. I got Momentary lapse of a reason. Its not as bad as everyone said it was, but i cant adjust to Gilmores voice every song...just bugs me a little |
Ok. How about this. Does anybody have The Wall: Live In Berlin? I saw it at the store, and when I read people like The Band and Bryan Adams were on it, I almost thought I grabbed the wrong thing.
How do these guys fit into The Wall? |
Sorry Otherside, I cant upload it tonight... Maybe tomorrow
|
just wondering, do any of you have a live version of pigs (three different ones). it would be friggin' awsome if you could upload it.
Just for kicks, anyone ever listened to the Zabriskie Point soundtrack? i was thinking of hunting down a copy. |

But yeah I'm gonna buy a bootleg cd from Pink Floyds Animals tour soon, you guys should cheak it out too. There is this solo that is done after Pig on the Wing thats just awsome. I think that at one time Pig on the Wing part one and two were one song, but just connected through that kick ass solo. |

more info on the bootleg animals tour please, and yeah pigs on the wing was originally one song with an awsome solo by snowy white, but they decided to split it for the album |

Wow I didn't know it was Snowy White who did it, I always thought he was just some random guy Waters pulled out to replace Gilmour for some of the tours. Yeah last time I cheaked there were a few bootlegs on ebay from the Animals tour, I havn't heard anything from the Animals tour exept Pig on the Wing. |
I was listening to Dark Side of the Moon.(its my only floyd album) and noticed that some of the vocals were different. I always thought Waters did all the singing. But is there someone else that he shares vocals with?
|
Dave Gilmour, the guitarist sings as well.
An example of him singing is on 'Money'. |
Gilm0ur actually sings on almost every famous Pink Floyd album.
The earlier ones featured Syd and Roger, and The Wall was mainly Rogers child. |
