Why do ya think that?
I dunno, hard to explain. |
Why do ya think that? :p
Not quite....;)
I think it is reasonable. I think that is the defintion of the listenable form of psychadellic. |
I dunno, hard to explain.
I think you've mistaken me for Krabsman.
I think it is reasonable. I think that is the defintion of the listenable form of psychadellic.
Beatles arn't listenable? Because that's what you're essentially saying. |
So is The White Album, MMT, Sgt. Peppers considered psychadellic?
|
I think you've mistaken me for Krabsman.
Fine, there can be two Nazis. :p |
Psychedelic?
The White Album? No MMT? Yes Sgt. Peppers? Yes |
I think you've mistaken me for Krabsman.
Beatles arn't listenable? Because that's what you're essentially saying.
I think only Sgt. Pepper's and Magical Mystery Tour was really psychadellic, and I like those albums, but I find Piper At The Gates Of Dawn very meh, and as I understand, that is the epitome of psychadellic. |
I'll agree PATGOD isn't exactly the easiest album to get into, but after a few listens it came around for me. I wouldn't say it's my favourite, but it's no slouch either.
|
I didn't like it at all the first time I listened to it. I haven't listened to it since.
|
I've listened PATGOD and Saucerful numerous times, just trying to get used to it, but I can't. Saucerful is boring, only a two tracks are really good, I forget the names, the rest are just 5-7 minutes of sound effects...boring. PATGOD just wasn't a fun listen. Matilda Mother and See Emily Play are the only cool tracks, the rest is just kind of random psychadellic randomness.

Disregarding your comments on one of my absolute favorite albums, what are your top 5 favorite albums? Infact what do you listen to? Ever since you've been here I've had no clue as to what in the hell you listen to. You just say you hate everything. So....care to introduce us to why you enjoy music? I'm extremly curious.....:)
|
Psychadelic music is very hit-or-miss (when it's bad, it's really, trully terrible), and it tends to get tiring---I can't listen to those whimsical British pop ditties for too long.
|
Listen to PATGOD when your stoned;)..while camping if possible. It worked for me. I like SOS more than PATGOD. The song structures seemed more maturely written to me. But I haven't listened to it in a while..

Hmmmm okay. This will be hard. 1. (tied) Charles Mingus-Mingus Ah Um/Cream-Fresh Cream 2. Wes Montgomery-Tequila 3. Beatles- Let It Be 4. Miles Davis-Kind Of Blue 5. Rolling Stones-40 Licks. |
Those are some pretty ballsy choices. I gotta admit I respect you more now.
|
This just in:
Bell Bottom Blues > everything else Derek and the Dominoes recorded. That is a pretty good top 5, actually. Althought 40 Licks seems like a cop out to me. |
I put 40 Licks on there because I think the Stones were the single greatest singles band of all time, and 40 Licks is singles.
I'll add 5 more. 1. (tied) Charles Mingus-Mingus Ah Um/Cream-Fresh Cream 2. Wes Montgomery-Tequila 3. Beatles- Let It Be 4. Miles Davis-Kind Of Blue 5. Rolling Stones-40 Licks. 6. NWA-Straight Outta Compton 7. Thelonious Monk-Genius Of Modern Music 8. Van Halen-1984 9. Bob Dylan-Blonde On Blonde 10. Brad Paisley-Mud On The Tires |
Bell Bottom Blues > everything else Derek and the Dominoes recorded.
That Derek and the Dominos album > everything Eric Clapton has recorded Van Halen's 1984! Man I love the balls on this guy. The problem with 40 Licks is that aside from five or six songs, the second disc is utterly and completely unlistenable. The two Hot Rocks collections are better IMO. |
Everything besides Starship is great.
lies. starship isnt bad. but motor city is burning is the best song on there. no lie! my asshole cousin spilled half a cup of sugary coffee on my laptop. that was at about 7 and it just started working. the keyboard is hardcore sticky and the battery doesnt work but im pleased with the progress. i couldve killed him. |

As with every genre of music the term Psychedelic can be used with just about any band, Outkast is Psychedelic on a few albums, The Monkees have some songs, same with Led Zeppelin its all a matter of opinion on which band is considered Psychedelic. But the most common things about it that I see is: A common theme usually about dreams, trips, idea's or views that can seem outrageous; Usually long songs with lots of stuff happening, long solos, random solos, feedback, distortion etc...
As to your list Schyma? I'm sorry to say but in my view that is very biased, your list is based on personal preference, am I right? Well I'm not sure I said this but his list was more of a definitive/influential list. I know there is no way PATGD is more influential then Revolver or Pet Sounds, while typically, Wish You Were Here is a common influence in many bands rarely have I heard a band site PATGD as an influence rather then WYWH. And Os Mutantes S/T on your list? They have better albums in my opinion (Hypocrite!). Are You Experienced is much more Psychedelic then Electric Lady Land one could argue as if that was a true Psychedelic album or not. But I think the first 3 albums on the list I mentioned were very accurate, but after that it gets a little blurred and slightly wrong. I would write more but Conan is on soon and I still haven't made my regular MX rounds! /slams head against wall Ugh, Rolling Stones a single's band? Please... seriously maybe you don't like them for whatever reason but calling them a single's band is like calling the Beatles a pop band or calling The Doors a one hit wonder. Its just stupid. |
Ugh, Rolling Stones a single band? Please...
I think their albums are just full of filler-songs, and their singles were their best songs. |
I think their albums are just full of filler, and I their singles were their best songs.
i think YOURE full of filler. in all honesty though, i semi-agree with you. i read somewhere that the stones took a shotgun approach to music. they released a cloud of albums, hoping one would hit. |
I'm suprised nobody said anything about the Brad Paisley one...
|
I think their albums are just full of filler-songs, and their singles were their best songs.
Wow, imagine that! Aren't most singles the best songs, generally speaking? (Yes.) |
Wow, imagine that!
Aren't most singles the best songs, generally speaking? (Yes.)
Yeah. While albums are just as good, the Rolling Stones just didn't pull that off. |
how was your guys' thanksgivings by the way? mine was good, minus the laptop incident.
|
Yeah. While albums are just as good, the Rolling Stones just didn't pull that off.
Wow. Hm, ya. Okay, whatever you say chopper.    Thanksgiving is my least favorite holiday the whole eating thing is just dumb. My family always makes a huge meal and everyone eats until they feel sick and then get grumpy and leave. I hardly ever eat alot. I only had like a plate of food and 3/4 of it was Mash Potatoes. |

I had a good turkey, some mac and cheese, and some mashed potaters.
|
mashed potatoes are delicious.
when i was about 8 or maybe 12, my mother asked what i wanted for my birthday and all i asked for was an entire meal consisting of different forms of potatoes. french fries, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, hash browns, etc. i didnt get it. :( |
i think YOURE full of filler.
in all honesty though, i semi-agree with you. i read somewhere that the stones took a shotgun approach to music. they released a cloud of albums, hoping one would hit.
That is why I'm so reluctant to buy Stones albums: I have no idea what I might be getting. With The Who or Neil Young, You're always guaranteed some good material. (minus Trans and Everybody's Rockin' for Young, which I heard were HORRIBLE albums) |
I've been listening to "Truth" atleast once a day for the past 3-4 days. I'm obsessed. Rod's voice fits it so well.
|
I enjoyed my Thanksgiving even though it could have been much better.
The Rolling Stones' singles/best known songs ARE their best songs, there's no way we can circumvent that; they have a few hidden gems, but for the most part you can find their best songs on Hot Rocks or 40 Licks. |
What! JESSICA SIMPSON AND NICK LACHEY (whateva!) ARE BREAKING UP. Thats sad.... :upset:
if those two kids cant stay together, what kind of chance does anyone have? |
Well your acting as if they are a shit band and their albums are just hacksawed together.. I would ask you what you've heard but I have a feeling you'd pull a "Everything, I own all their albums and they all suck" I dunno, you just seem like the type to do that.
No, there are a few I like, I think it was Sticky Fingers, but alot of their other albums are just drony rhythm and blues songs. |
Eh, what "blues" songs did they do?
|
Van Halen makes me want to jump out of a 12 story window and Fresh Cream I haven't listened to but if it's anything like other Cream albums it's probablly extremly meh. Other than that pretty nice choices.
Bell Bottom Blues > everything Eric Clapton has recorded (which isn't saying much)
Are You Experienced is much more Psychedelic then Electric Lady Land
Are You Experienced? can barley qualify as psychedelic. Electric Ladyland is extremly psychedelic IMO.
As to your list Schyma? I'm sorry to say but in my view that is very biased, your list is based on personal preference, am I right? PATGOD is the most definitive form of Psychedelia there is and I've told this thread why many times before but if I have to I'll do it again. So shall I do it again? Even without my bias for PATGOD, I still think PATGOD truly wins that title of most definitive Psychedelic album and I'm sure most of the regulars agree.
And Os Mutantes S/T on your list? They have better albums in my opinion (Hypocrite!).
What are you trying to say here? |
I think you overreacted a little Jacaranda. I agree that The Rolling Stones shouldn't be labeled as a Singles band, but not everyone likes a band for the same reasons. He definitely wasn't calling them a **** band, or else he wouldn't have included them in his top 5 list.
Btw, Mr. Krabsman really seems to have been put on the stand tonight...what's up with that? Come on people, can't we all just get along?:)
I still think PATGOD truly wins that title of most definitive Psychedelic album and I'm sure most of the regulars agree.
Seeing as how PATGOD is one of few truly psychadelic albums I own/have listened to, I'm going to have to agree with that, more out of a lack of experience than anything, but still. |
Well, goodnight everyone.
