Jacaranda 11-24-2005 02:10 PM

Ya, I used to like Bela Fleck some but it got really boring very fast.

Anyone have big plans for Thanksgiving? I'm just staying home with my Mom, her Boyfriend and my Grandma. Its a party!

Jacaranda 11-24-2005 02:17 PM

Can any one tell me who 52 (Under Tenacious D), 49, and 50 are? They are all on the tip of my tounge but I can't tell who exactly.
http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=hslycm

Love is 37 and Zombies are 136. Its a list of 189 and he mentions most of the important ones.

PinkFreud 11-24-2005 02:31 PM

52 is deep purple and 50 is pink floyd.

isnt it out of 200 something? how many did you get. i stalled at 88.

Jacaranda 11-24-2005 02:36 PM

I just re-opened it from 3:00 am last night. But I have 70/270 so far. Hm, number 49 is bugging me the guy with curly hair looks so familiar. Ah, Pink Floyd I knew that but I didn't know the Deep Purple.

PinkFreud 11-24-2005 02:37 PM

out of 270 right? im gonna see if my parents can identify any, but in all honesty, i dont think theyll get many more than i did.

Jacaranda 11-24-2005 02:39 PM

Theres too many cheesy 80's New Wave bands that all look the same. And alot of British looking bands, 90's bands. I just enter Oasis for all of the ones that look British (Racism wtf?).

Ah, thanks Badmoon ELO is correct, is the Curly haired guy Jeff Lynne then?

Badmoon 11-24-2005 02:39 PM

49 is ELO or Boston -- not sure which.

EDIT: Probably ELO

Woodstock 11-24-2005 03:12 PM

I just got an early birthday present, The Bob Marley Songs of Freedom Boxset. It's sweet. Four discs that range his whole career.

Broken Arrow 11-24-2005 05:17 PM

Haha, lucky.

You Know!

Lunch 11-24-2005 05:18 PM

Jaracanda, can you give me a link to that site?

Krabsworth 11-24-2005 05:35 PM

Hmph. I really don't like Bob Marley too much.

Jacaranda 11-24-2005 06:05 PM
Jaracanda, can you give me a link to that site?
Are you talking about that picture game thing? If so I'll upload it on YSI its a excel game thingy.
http://s6.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1ZZXU1RNLCMOU3LP015A6G0ZNI
You need Microsoft Excel or some other program like that for it to work. I use OpenOffice I think. I recommend everyone who haven't "played" it before downloads it, I'm pretty bad at matching names and faces so I'm only at 85 as of now.

I'm not a big fan of Bob Marley either, I mean I think he's great and all but he just doesn't do any thing for me.

Woodstock 11-24-2005 06:29 PM

Wow, I just listened to the new Paul McCartney CD on XSAO (they're back online, but only for Real Audio), and it's really good, borderline great. Some songs have the McCartney cheesiness, but others are fantastic.

I love the Chili Peppers. Never really heard them mentioned ITT.

np: Pink Floyd - In The Flesh

Lunch 11-24-2005 07:37 PM

You think you're bad at matching names to faces? I only had about 35 when I tried.
Whoa, hey not to change subjects but I'm reading this pretty good book about Psychedelic Rock and they have top Psychedelic Rock albums of all time so I thought I'd share.
1. The Beatles - Revolver
2. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
3. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground and Nico
4. My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
5. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
6. The 13th Floor Elevators - The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators/Live
7. The Flaming Lips - Transmissions From the Satellite Heart
8. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
9. Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
10. Brain Eno - Another Green World
11. Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
24. The Rolling Stones - Their Satanic Majesties Request :upset:

Not a bad list at all they also have a top 10 Beatles songs, top 10 Velvet Underground songs, 10 Rolling Stones songs, and ten American Garage songs; all which are fairly good..
You couldn't be more wrong...that's one of the worst top 10 lists I've ever seen. I don't even consider some of them to be Psychedelic. I shudder to think at what the rest of the list even looks like if Forever Changes isn't in the top 20 and Odessy and Oracle isn't even in the top 100! PATGOD should easily have made the top 5 but that's not even that bad. I mean how in the hell do you put Their Satanic Majesties Request ahead of Forever Changes?!?! The only plus I can see to this list is that they put In the Aeroplane Over the Sea in the top 10. Horrible, horrible list......This is what I think it should look like:

Top 10 Psychedelic Albums
---------------------------
1. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd
2. Forever Changes - Love
3. The Doors - The Doors
4. Revolver - The Beatles
5. United States of America - United States of America
6. Electric Ladyland - Jimi Hendrix
7. Odessy and Oracle - the Zombies
8. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
9. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
10. Os Mutantes - Os Mutantes

Honorable Mentions: (no order)

We're Only In It for The Money - Frank Zappa and the Mothers
Tago Mago - CAN
Dear Mr. Fantasy - Traffic
Magical Mystery Tour - The Beatles
Happy Trails - Quicksliver Messenger Service
Strange Days - The Doors
*Freak Out! - Frank Zappa and the Mothers

*I'm still debating with myself on wether this is Psychedelia or not

Glitterati 11-24-2005 08:22 PM

How about Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow?

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-24-2005 08:27 PM
How about Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow?
NO.

I consider it to be one of the most overrated albums of the 60's. Although, it does hold some importance as the first major album to come out of the Bay Area, I still don't think it ranks with any of them.^^

zabbit82 11-24-2005 08:44 PM

I think Dark Side Of The Moon would be an honorable mention for a decent Psychedelia album.

MBS 11-24-2005 08:45 PM

I don't really consider DSOTM to be psychedelic. Compared to Floyd's earlier stuff, it's not psychedelic at all.

Illmatic 11-24-2005 08:51 PM
Hmph. I really don't like Bob Marley too much.
You really don't like anything, do you?
6. Electric Ladyland - Jimi Hendrix
That's psychadelic? News to me.
Wow, I just listened to the new Paul McCartney CD on XSAO (they're back online, but only for Real Audio), and it's really good, borderline great. Some songs have the McCartney cheesiness, but others are fantastic.
See, I didn't think it was all that great :-\

I think that the new McCartney album, the new Rolling Stones, and Love And Theft (the most recent Dylan album) all suffer from the same hype: All three were released by rock legends who had gone decades without putting anything worthwhile out, so the second they release something listenable, people flip out and overrate it. Objectively, I don't think Chaos and Creation, A Bigger Bang, or Love and Theft are really all that great. They're albums that would be rated about three stars (out of five) 30 years ago, and while they certainly do have their moments ("Mississippi" is one of the best Dylan songs I have ever heard, personally, for instance), objectively, they really aren't anything better than average or above-average IMO.

zabbit82 11-24-2005 08:53 PM

Good point. Sadly, the earliest Floyd album I have is DSOTM :upset:

It's more Progressive Rock than anything.

I'm having a hard time not putting in Pet Sounds. :-/

I thought Prairie Wind was pretty good. It was in the style of Harvest, and Harvest Moon, so if you liked those albums, you'd like Prairie Wind.
