What exactly is his connection to Buena Vista Social Club?
Ry Cooder went down to Havana and brought the Buena Vista Social Club and its members back together to make a documentary (the album). Their careers and club ended decades before with the rise of Castro. Aside from playing on the album, I believed he produced it, and certainly helped with the compositions.

Oh its fine, I suppose... :upset: Nah, but thanks for trying!
Sorry..

I'll still send it to you. I don't know, it might work.

Anyone know who's in my avatar?

If you don't know you should find out. He's becoming one of my favorite musicians.

Thanks for the Marley album btw. Can't wait to download it. :)
Eh, I like my old Reinhardt avatar more.:p

I'll only listen to it when I'm crossing the boarder into Mexico. (not exactly Cuba but whatever)

Your old Reinhardt avatar?

You took my old Woodstock avatar so I guess we're even. :p

Just to clarify I was kidding! You were doing this out of being nice to some unknown person on the internet, which is enough for me. :S

Ugh, me and ma pappy got in a huge fight just a few mins ago. I think so Marvin Gaye is appropriate for this moment.

Yea, I had this avatar around January of this year. But yea, we can be even.

Recently, I gave Kick Out The Jams a good listen for the first time, and it really surprised me. It's much better than I remember it.

Rocket Reducer No. 62 and Motor City Burning are my current favorite songs.

magicbus 11-22-2005 08:35 PM

Schyma, I'll send out Try! when I get a hold of it. And your avatar is Django Reindhardt. This is before reading the rest of the answers.

Good stuff man.

/raids through dad's music finding some Marvin Gaye

So does anyone here like the classic rock band The Faces? It's the group with Rod Stewart, and Ron Wood back in the early 70's. I've been listening to thier album "A nod is as good as a wink... to a blind horse" alot lately and thought I would bring that up.

Krabsworth 11-22-2005 08:42 PM

Hot Rats is really cool.

Jacaranda 11-22-2005 08:43 PM

I like the Faces, or thought I did until I found out I was actually listening the the Small Faces, I thought there was no difference but I should've known when I didn't hear Rod Stewart singing.

Krabsworth 11-22-2005 08:45 PM

Didn't the Small Faces have Stewart and Wood in thier lineup?

Thats what I thought but PinkFreud corrected me, it was an earlier version of the band... or was it later? I can't remember. :P

I'm really digging this new avatar so I guess I'll keep it.

Thanks bus. I'm glad most of you know who ol' Django is.

This Di Meola/McLaughlin/De Lucia album is unhuman. :amaze:

I'm pretty sure its the earlier version of the band. But I'm not entirely sure if Ian McLagan, Kenney Jones, and Ronnie Lane were in that - I could be wrong.

Badmoon 11-22-2005 08:56 PM

I use to try to play "Meditteranian Sundance" on banjo.

I would've figured it was Ray Charles. With the sunglasses and whatnot.

Today at school I was in the dressing room (school musical performance) and I noticed a box that appeared to have a record player and some albums in it....I opened up the box....there like twenty albums, about half of which I plan on "borrowing." I'm not sure who's they are, but I know for a fact that they aren't being used around the school. I can't even remember all the albums, but there was Time Fades Away (Neil Young), Abbey Road, umm...for some reason I can't even think of any more, I looked at them really quickly, but there were some really good ones.

I'll update tomorrow.

Anyone a Kraftwerk fan? I've been listening to them lately, and I love it.

Wasn't Time Fades Away the really rare vinyl that was never transfered to CD?

I can't remember if I said this before, but I am in love with "The Who By Numbers." I like it a hell of a lot more than I liked Who's Next, that being the only other Who album I've listened to in full (besides The Kids Are Alright, but that doesn't really count). But ya, fantastic album.

blue3 11-23-2005 12:55 AM

The Rolling Stones is on TV right now. It's the American Music Awards or something. I don't know if it's a replay or live.

Seafroggys 11-23-2005 01:01 AM

Yeah I just saw that. Its okay, the second song was better than the first just because Mick wasn't playing gutiar and could do his whole stage persona thing.

Jacaranda 11-23-2005 01:22 AM

Ah, man I missed it. What'd they play? I was busy watching the Real World. :upset:

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 11-23-2005 02:49 AM

You watch reality TV!?!? I have lost all the respect I once had for you.

Just kidding. (but seriously)

blue3 11-23-2005 02:51 AM

lol Real World.. I don't know what songs they played. I know they played 2 and the ending was cut off.

Wow, you're lucky, my school would never have records sitting around, half the people don't even know what one is... :upset:

Np: The Crystal Ship - The Doors. I love this song so much, I've been on a Doors kick as of late. Does anyone else think End of the Night is one of most sublime songs ever?

Jacaranda 11-23-2005 01:12 PM

Hey, blue thanks for the Yellow Submarine, all the tracks work perfectly.

Smoke Signals??

I'm listening to NRPS right now....everytime I listen to them it just makes me want to listen to The Grateful Dead. I like most of their songs, but I'm not a huge fan of extremely countryish songs. The Grateful Dead never really crossed that line, New Riders of the Purple Sage seem to get way too close to crossing that line on every song.

PinkFreud 11-23-2005 02:38 PM

i really like nrps but i havent listened to them in a while. perhaps after hot rats.

I'm not entirely sure where you're coming from.

EDIT: It's ****ing snowing here. I think this will be the first time in my lifetime that we're gonna have a white Thanksgiving, and I'm pumped! Just thought you guys should know.

Leper 11-23-2005 03:47 PM

Ah Paul McCartney, Thanksgiving AND a 4 day weekend. This isn't going to get any better soon.

Phillip_schranck 11-23-2005 06:39 PM

Gosh I love Classic Rock. I wish I had some money to go out and buy some albums. I would just go on a shopping spree and never take off my headphones. Especially on Thanksgiving Break. I wish there was some way to get some free CDs.

I'm sure you know what I mean. Just have a way to get some CDs for free. Like entire albums. I mean I don't have a single LZ or Deep Purple album. How sad is that. I gotta start saving my money.

PinkFreud 11-23-2005 06:41 PM

when i worked in a book/music/movie store, i would get promo cds for free. there were always a few good ones.

god, i wish there was a record store that i could get a job at.
