I have to disagree. He fits in very nicely with Metallica but his material seems quite bland to me compared to other people. Listen to some Yngwie, Vai, or Paul Gilbert and then tell me he's an amazing guitartist.
I actually have listened to artists like that mainly, Joe Satriani. But, I still think that Kirk is an amazing guitarist.

GenuineImitation 04-04-2006 04:38 PM
As good as Yngwie is, I can't stand him. I don't think he's very creative.

Kirk is a little bit repetitive, but some of his solos are absolutely amazing.
I dont like Yngwie as much as the other shredders.

Congrats on 7,000 posts :chug:

P.S. - It appears our nOObie "friend" has been banned.

Wow! I didn't even notice! Thanks :chug:

Finally. After three posts in the problems thread.

I really like Satriani. I was recently watching the video from Guitar World. He's a great guitar player. I find him more full of soul than Yngwie which makes a huge difference in a guitar player.

Aw3someman 04-04-2006 04:46 PM

Those guitarists were examples. There are many many others.

Soul_Under_Arrest 04-04-2006 04:48 PM

Satch is probably my favorite shred along with Gilbert but that kind of music bores me. I don't like a whole lot of there songs.

Leper Messiah during the Madly in Anger Tour (2004)

James's vocals are kind of weak in this one so it must have been near the end of the tour or something.

 In the Slayer thread, he was being a total fool. Necronomicon made a post of his "best posts" so far.

Youtube hates me... it's running super slow.

As you may have heard from other threads, I got the Kerrang tribute to MOP today. Not bad at all.

Chu 04-05-2006 06:54 AM

Cool, care to review it? Post here first though, we deserve it :chug:

superdigg 04-05-2006 07:13 AM

yeah! I'd like a review! most of the sound samples were pretty cool apart from sanitarium which sounded a little dodgy and orion which sounded kinda thin.

I'll give it a track by track.

Machine Head - Battery
First impressions of this aren't too good. The acoustic guitars sound awful. All changes when the distortion kick in though. Combined with Rob's vocals and the drums, this is heavier than the original, nearly everything is spot on. There's some slight improvisations on the solo which are nice, but they just don't sound as good as the original - 7/10

Trivium - MOP
Easily the best track on the album. Trivium seem to get everything right when covering Metallica. The whole song is a 1/2 step down, making that just that bit more heavier. There are harmonies in the pre chorus and other parts, giving it that Trivium stlye feel. Matt doesn't scream on this so his vocals are great. The guitar tone for the interlude are spot on and so are the solos, minus the high note in the second solo, but who can hit that perfectly? 10/10

Meendeed - TTTSNB - For some reason the CD has gotten quiter. I know the bands tried to achieve an old sound for it but the production just seems hit and miss. Meendeed sound like a band playing in your mate's garage on this. Sure they're all talented but it's just hard to listen to thanks to the production. There's a little added on bit at the end of the solo where the band seem to go off on one with solos, I like it. 6/10

Bullet For My Valentine - Sanitarium
Bullet chose the wrong song here it seems. Their vocalist is not suited to singing this at all. The solos are good but the clean guitar tone just doesn't sound right. Things slightly improve when it comes to the heavy choruses. When it comes to the interlude things really pick up. With a scream, Bullet show why they're liked so much. Although it's a bit of an anti-climax as the band seem to lose it after the fast solo. 4/10

Chimaira - Disposable Heroes
Again like MH, Chimaira have made this sound much heavier, it hits you more than the original and their singer's vocals are really the icing on the cake (unless you hate screaming) Everything is spot on, especially the impressive solo which is played spot on by them 8/10

Fightstar - Leper Messiah
Woah, I've always under-estimated Fightstar, their single Palahunik's laughter didn't really sound that great to me but they've won me over. Heavy guitars and dark vocals. You wouldn't be able to tell Charlie was in Busted he sounds completely different. It's brilliant. Their lead guitarist seems to have a problem with sweeping though as the solo is a bit off but overall this is great. A big improvement from the Busted days 9/10

Mastodon - Orion
For some reason this bores me. Mastodon are playing everything right spot on but I'm just not interested. It seems to be lacking depth, I can't explain it and to be perfectly honest I think they should've stuck Dream Theater's cover in it's place - 5/10

Funeral for A Friend - Damage Inc.
I was expecting a melodic post-hardcore take on this song, in the vain of their usual stuff. After a fade in guitar intro I realised I was completely wrong. They've done the opposite and made it more thrashier. They've taken the heaviest song and made it heavier. The screaming is brilliant. If FFAF made more songs like this I'd be a big fan 8/10

Overall, not as big a disappointment as I had thought it would be. Most of it really did Metallica justice but a couple of songs were just bad. I reccomend buying Kerrang! just for it.

Heh, I'm not too good with reviews. :p

If you search around on Triviums website you might find the studio version. I might have it on my PC but that will require some digging later on in the day
