How dare any of you say anything about anyone being better than COB. Sure, there are bands like Black Sabbath, Metallica, and Megadeth, and all of those good bands, but those will always remain the great starting point to what made some of the greatest bands. Well... all I mean, is that for the present, COB are far better than just about anyone as far as I can tell.

So? Length doesn't control its awesomeness.

Those bands are crap compared to CoB.

The only band I've heard similar to Bodom that was actually good is Norther. I have couple of their albums and I think they're great. They have the heavy power metal thing down, and know how to create atmospheres better than CoB ever did. The only drawback is that the guitarwork is nothing compared to Alexi.

IheartSP 09-20-2005 07:01 PM

I think Norther has a good thing going, there problem is the songwriting is extremely basic compared to CoB's.

IheartSP 09-20-2005 07:05 PM

I'll send you some on AIM.

flamesofbodom 09-20-2005 07:08 PM

I dont have enough Norther to judge.

IheartSP 09-20-2005 07:09 PM

If you had some kind of instant messanger service I'd send you some, but you don't...

Thanks for reminding how much i suffer

COB has really basic songwriting too...Alexi reuses riffs too much.

However, the little melodic ditties added here and there really make the songs sound less boring...

Norther I don't like much. They're really boring in my book.

IheartSP 09-20-2005 07:12 PM

CoB doesn't have very simple songwriting if you ask me. Re-using riffs shouldn't really be a factor in that. Look at the descending riff in Black Widow, it's very layered and complicated if you ask me, I couldn't write something like that.

There's a lot of leads like that in the song.

IheartSP 09-20-2005 07:15 PM

Yes I guess, I didn't have a better word for it. It comes after the verses.

flamesofbodom 09-20-2005 07:20 PM

Oh that. Yeah that is amazing creativity there

Shadows 09-20-2005 08:04 PM
Norther I don't like much. They're really boring in my book.
Their music is much simpler than CoB. Most Norther is built solely upon catchy melodies, but I think they pull them off beautifully.

Papa Gheylol 09-21-2005 04:51 AM
Yes Squirrel we all know Kalmah and Sentenced are better but you can't deny Alexi is a good guitarist. Whether there are a million better or not, it doesn't make those solos any easier.
Squirrel here.

You read into my posts every fucking time I post.

I said one particular solo isnt as great as you fanboys make it out to be.

Apparently that meants i'm completely dissing Alexi and his band right.

I stated a couple of times that Sentenced and Kalmah came before CoB, making CoB no where near as original as you lot make out, you seem to take that as a mortal blow and bring that up every time I make a post.

I also laugh at the people who say CoB is technical

hmmmmm mabye because they are? just a thought

:lol::lol:

They're no where near technical.

Shadows 09-21-2005 05:36 AM

Kalmah was around for a couple years before CoB, but CoB debuted first, so it's hard to say they copied styles. I guess Alexi's playing isn't technical per se, but it is very difficult and based heavily on theory and other styles of music.

What were you banned for Squirrel?

Papa Gheylol 09-21-2005 06:24 AM

Technical doesnt just refer to Alexi ffs, it's the band as a whole that everyones on about.

"Based heavil on theory" - just like the majority of music then ..

Other styles ? you mean he rapes harmonic minor so he's "classical" ?

His playing is nothing special tbh.

i am the robots 09-21-2005 07:17 AM

His playing on the old albums was quite good, but the past few albums have been tasteless wankery, they've really gone downhill, I suggest you check out Hatebreeder and Follow The Reaper before you criticize Bodom though.

Papa Gheylol 09-21-2005 07:34 AM

I've heard all their work ..

I agree, Hatecrew Deathroll isn't a good album to start out with. It is a nice, good, catchy CD, but if you want Bodom in their heyday, check out those CDs.

Hey Squirrel. CoB is technical. CoB is technical. CoB is technical. CoB is technical. CoB is technical. CoB is technical. CoB is technical. CoB is technical. CoB is technical.

And yes, why the bannage, dude?

Papa Gheylol 09-21-2005 07:48 AM

Haha.

I think I was banned for trying to start a pro-aryan modship and removing all non white members.

Exactly.

<shouldbepostedinthedtthread> I just got the live concert of Dream Theater covering the album "The Number of The Beast". It's seriously amazing. </shouldbepostedinthedtthread>

I had a Dream Theater live cover of Master Of Puppets (the album), and a video of them doing the song.

The music is good, but it cracks me up seeing LaBrie try to imitate Hetfield...and the clean guitar part played on a keyboard.

LaBrie >>>>>>>>> Hetfield.

That cover album is great too.

Shattered_Future 09-21-2005 01:16 PM

He is...he has a better range, but him doing a Hetfield impression is like having Ashlee Simpson mimic Angela Gossow...it just ain't right.

IheartSP 09-21-2005 01:18 PM

Hmm lets see, Kalmah, formed in 1999, that's the year Hatebreeder came out. They had a death metal band before it that wasn't anything like waht they are now. I'd say CoB came first...

I've never heard Sentenced so I couldn't tell you if they ripped them off, but seeing as no one else has ever mentioned it they couldn't have done it that badly.

I know of a lot of guitarists better than Alexi but like I said that doesn't make him any worse, and he is towards the top of his genre anyway. I think his songwriting is great, or at least used to be, and it is leagues ahead of bands like Norther in technicality.

Shattered_Future 09-21-2005 01:20 PM

Sentenced has been around forever...14 years, I think. 8 albums...

Squirrel, you have to admit that Alexi can belt out a killer solo on occasion...

Bed of Nails
