dudes...is there a place i can request a sample of these bands you speak of? I'm into emo/sceamo but i just haven't heard everything. It would be pretty cool if there was a request thread or something like that...
|
Sorry, but I like talking about music with people. I know it's emo, and I love it, but I can't be bothered to explain that to every single person I wish to talk to.
I'm just not going to shame the bands i like by callign them emo or screamo anymore. Apparently the Used is the common example of emo used by the media, and nearly everyone who listens to music. Let these horrible bands and their fans take the label and it's bad reputation, and we'll go on under a new title. The bands are hardcore, but I'm just looking for more descriptive words so that I can describe a bands sound more learly when I hold a conversatin with someone.
Just call them hardcore bands then? I don't think anyone here cares man. |
AIM me at FuzzyLlamaOfDoom. I'll hook you up with whatever you want.
|
Just call them hardcore bands then? I don't think anyone here cares man.
That's what I've been saying... and I know nobody cares, I'm just looking for an easy way of describing bands to people without using the terms emo or screamo. Like if I want to tell someone about Saetia, I want to describe their sound and genre without actualy using the word emo, because I wouldn't feel like explaining anything more than just that sepcific band. I give up, since you guys don't see what I'm asking. |
Lately i've been listening to some french emo like Amanda Woodward, Daïtro and so on. And i found out that on their flyers and posters they call it emocore. But isn't that just emotional hardcore core?. sounds stupid to me anyway.
|
there is no such thing as emocore. That's just stupid.
|
Does anyone know of any books, links, sites, or other forums that I could check out to learn EVERYTHING about the history of emo and screamo. Please don't say fourfa, because I hate taht site with a bloody passion.
I'm looking for anything that will help me learn, and I would rather it be as in-depth as possible. I know there are a couple books that have been published, but I don't know the names. So, link me to this shizz! |

Amazing bands. Check out La Quiete and Raein for some Italian emo. |
Dude, it's really not that hard to explain. I've done it dozens of times in less than three minutes.
Shame them? If the bands themselves get so upset over the name of the genre of music they play, they should stop playing it. It's emo, always has been emo, always will be emo. The other bands already have a set genre called pop-rock. Let the public be misinformed. I'd rather have it the way it is now than the little scenesters running around talking about Saetia and how "hot" Billy Werner is just 'cause he was in an amazing band. If you're looking for a more descriptive word and they're ignorant, just say emotional hardcore. Afterall, that's what emo is.
the day i hear a scenester at my school say billy werner is hot is the day i shoot myself in the head. |
I have scenesters talking about Orchid here.
|
damn. well orchid are really popular, ive heard the name thrown around at shows along with circle takes the square but thats is about as far as comprehension of screamo goes in my area.
|
I have scenesters talking about UnderOATH and how they go to Church.
It's always refreshing to see little boys in tight pants and femine looks going to church. The Priests love it. |

latest word from the vatican: "emo is ok" weeks later: "it seems that the latest convention of catholic priests will be hosting the band underOATH and that all fans of the music are invited to come and listen and then spend the night." |
I have scenesters talking about Orchid here.
how do you define scenester exactly? Is it just the way they dress? You know, with the white belt, unisex haircut, and girl pants? Thanks for the awesome link btw. ;) |
http://www.mesaverde.co.uk/mp3/
nice link. |
If you guys have any more links, let me know. I am compiling a list of educational links to send to people when needed, as well as reading them for myself and learning.
I already know fourfa, the wiki definition, and now that new link, but I need more than that. |

Where in TN do you live? Sorry if this has come up between us before, I just don't remember. I remember someone aroudnd here was from Knoxville, I think. I don't remember if it was you though. |

Haha, I know what you mean then.
|
Rites of Spring didn't like being called emo because it sounded just as ridiculous to them as "screamo" does to a lot of bands now. I know what you mean about trying to have a conversation with people about music, and all they know is s.hit. But i usually find that those people aren't really worth talking to anyways.

Yeah, so I like Owls!.
|
I've never even heard them actually.
|
Go listen, it does a body good.
|
I tried to download some of their stuff on Soulseek earlier today, but I couldn't find anything. I've been meaning to check them out for a while.
|

I'm trying to, but Myspace is being a fag for me today. Many band's songs just refuse to play. I'll bookmark them if I can't get it to work. I'm going to repeat my other post for people who didn't see it and don't read past discussion: Does anyone know of any books, links, sites, or other forums that I could check out to learn EVERYTHING about the history of emo and screamo. Ok, their tunes are working now, and I love it! :-O
http://www.myspace.com/wowowls I added them and messaged them about their avaiable releases. If that vinyl split is all they have, then I'm going to have troubles because I don't own a record player. :( |
dude get a record player. you need one.
|
dude get a record player. you need one.
he tells the truth i dont have one and can barely get my hands on recorded music by my fav bands. (cept the red scare :) ) |
vinyl sounds better than cds.
|
dude get a record player. you need one.
I've been meaning to, but I haven't seen a real good cheap one yet. ALl the pawn shops have these old players from 40 years ago, and I'm sure half of them don't work well. The local record store (Sam Goody) sells some new models, but they are amazingly expensive for something that plays vinyl, which is rarely actually used these days except in DYI music. |
look for some on ebay. there are plenty of cheap ones waiting to be bought.
|
vinyl sounds better than cds.
i have wondered what my red scare cd would sound like on vinyl, probally alot better because production is crap on capillary lockdown. |
look for some on ebay. there are plenty of cheap ones waiting to be bought.
Wouldn't the shipping be high for such a large item though?
