from their site:
You know the old saying, “no news is good news”, well… that was the case as far as the recording process was going for the new Tool CD, but now things may have changed a bit. Yesterday, when I went to the studio to give Maynard a bottle of wine (a 1992 Maya) for winning the bet that I had with him involving his new film “Sleeping Dogs Lie” (I lost by default, not being able to attend the Sedona screening), not only wasn’t Maynard there, but, in what seems to be a case of enantiodromia (something becoming its opposite) if ever there was one (!), I was told the reason why he wasn’t there. I wish this post was dated April 1, but, unfortunately, it isn’t. Like a doctor giving a patient a straight, honest answer to a medical diagnosis, without sugar-coating the truth, here’s exactly what I was told: “Maynard has found Jesus.” This will come as a complete shock to most (but not all) of you, as it did to me. In fact, it just seemed like another MJK prank until I talked to the one person who I believe would know if all this was legit or not. After nearly an hour on the phone with this person, the answer I received was that Maynard has indeed “found Jesus” and that, for this reason, he’s abandoned the project for the time being, if not entirely. I don’t know what the f**k is in the water these days, but hopefully a black jelly belly will turn up in that golden bowl… that’s all I can think to say at this point. Before leaving the studio, I watched as Danny made arrangements to go play some golf, while Adam and Justin kept working on a particular song. So, in case you missed it (those who don’t read the whole post), here’s today's news: Maynard has found Jesus… anyone know anything about this? |
April Fools!
|
I would upload it (Pt. 1) but I tried like 10 times and it kept going "cannot find server"... If you guys have msn I'd be happy to send it to you through that.
i have msn, i would give you any video that you want if you pass me the first part, my msn is friikmudo@hotmail.com |
Ok people.
It is now Monday the 4th of April. Get over the Maynard has found Jesus thing. |
Erm excuse me, Blair's post is dated 31st of may is it not? And Kabir's site still has the message up...last year he said the day after that it was an april fool. I think we should be looking at this as an excuse for the album getting delayed?
LOL@Kage... I was gonna rant about how the salival version is dragged on for too long and the ending of the song (the best part 'if you say i might fade like a sigh if i stay...it will end no other way') sounds much better on Aenima. BUt i didn't think anyone agreed. |
I still prefer Pu5hit live. Mainly just for the changed intro, it just gives it that extra dynamic feel.
But everytime I say that, JoZ comes along and nerfs me with Third Eye :upset: Edit: And tags arent working for me all of a sudden.. |
The start of the live version of pu**** is better, the end of the CD version is better. Triad live is just orgasmic :) that's my input for the day.
|
I agree on the Triad comment; I don't know why, but for me it almost soothes me if I'm having a rough day if I just sit and listen to it. Maybe I'm thinking about it too hard, but it just seems to really calm me down and almost focus me as well.

Ok, i'm going to get off topic a bit but i just saw this link on another message board. It's a short clip of an APC performance where they're playing "The Noose". Quick question: What is Maynard playing? Looks like a guitar but then it looks a bit odd.
http://www.becomes-me.net/TheNoose-120503.mpeg and then there are these two other links in case anyone wants to see them: http://www.becomes-me.net/Pet-120503.mpeg (Pet) http://www.becomes-me.net/Judith-120503.mpeg (Judith) |
the guitar, in amotion he credited to playing guitar. in triad he plays bass, in 4 Degrees he plays sitar.
any way washingtonians (sp?) el corazon 4/10 $7.00 a tool cover show, stop by i will playing guitar for "heyoka". |
I'm not sure about the bass in triad. I think he played guitar for triad reflection and disposition on the oklahoma show, no? there is only one bass on disposition and justin was playing that...
|
But everytime I say that, JoZ comes along and nerfs me with Third Eye :upset:
Nerf'd! Third Eye really is far more orgasmic than Pushit. I've tried listening to Pushit more than once, even the live version on Salival...but nothing captures me quite like Third Eye
I'm not sure about the bass in triad. I think he played guitar for triad reflection and disposition on the oklahoma show, no? there is only one bass on disposition and justin was playing that...
There are several tabs that attribute a second bassline to Maynard in Triad, most notably the one off Tooltabs.net... I honestly do not hear any second bassline in the song at all. Justin's bass is hard enough to hear in most songs, let alone trying to hear a phantom second bassline done by Maynard, in a song with so much distortion from Adam it really isn't funny. I've never heard of him playing guitar either, not for Disposition or Reflection...maybe he did some stuff with APC, but last I knew, the only thing Maynard did with Tool was sing (even if it was with a megaphone on Eulogy) |

I didn't know Jeordie did the backing vocals on some songs, like in the Noose. And I really regret the fact that I never got to see them live, ESPECIALLY when they were touring with NIN! |

 Are you a bassist? and agree with me that it's hard to appreciate justin in the band...
He uses some kind of megaphone in third eye to get some effects, i'm sure of it, i meant to ask you people the other night but fell asleep :( The only bits of third eye i like are the 'So good to see you...' part, adams solos and the 'you opened my eyes' part. Pu**** has more to offer. |
Yeah he does use some effects on other he just hits his throat live on that one i think he is using the same mic he was using for stinkfist on the oklahoma vid
|
He has played guitar with the band on more than one occasion and i thought he played guitar on triad not bass??
I have only seen tabs talking of an extra bassline, not guitar.
Are you a bassist? and agree with me that it's hard to appreciate justin in the band...
No, it's hard to hear him. Once you know what he's doing, it's very easy to appreciate him.
He uses some kind of megaphone in third eye to get some effects, i'm sure of it, i meant to ask you people the other night but fell asleep
I know nothing of him using a megaphone in Third Eye. I know for a fact he uses it in Eulogy though, as was confirmed by Danny himself. Justin's bass work isn't hard for me to recognize at all. I don't see how you can't hear it.
|
But he does use some weird effect in third eye |

Pu**** has more to offer.
Wow, only liking certain sections of Third Eye? That song is insane, each part contributes a certain thing to the song as a whole, and it is one of the best Tool has written. The way that song cycles through so many different sonic and textural soundscapes, moods, and tension is unmatched in some single albums, much less one song. |
He is holding something when he's singing the 'you opened my eyes' bit on the oklahoma vid...what is the main verse section? 'so good to see you once again, i thought that you were hiding from me'? I'm not a big fan of that bit...I just love the bit 'So glad to see you i mised you so much'. I'm not a hater the song, it's just in a different league than the classics (push!t, No Quarter, Sober, Parabola)
|
Your and my idea of the classics vary greatly:
Third Eye, Lateralus, Reflection, Sober, Eulogy, etc. |
Ok, last night I downloaded Tool's version of No Quarter. I actually prefer the original at this point. Tool really did make it their own, though. It's just different enough from the original to be cool.
|
I think Lateralus, Third Eye, and DRT are the best works (if you take it as DRT being one song, like I do).
|
I think Lateralus, Third Eye, and DRT are the best works (if you take it as DRT being one song, like I do).
I think those are my favorites as well.
Ok, last night I downloaded Tool's version of No Quarter. I actually prefer the original at this point. I'm still open to the possibility that it's a great song, I just haven't discovered the glory, I guess. |
No quarter is so atmospheric, that's what gets me...and maynards voice varies and is so strong in the song. I like lateralus a load too, reflection and triad bore me slightly  I overlistened eulogy slightly (play count = 112 on itunes, and i used to play it on WMP too) it used to be my favourite but then kinda drifted out. The 4 i mention above and probably lateralus too are the real stand out tracks. Though i do like all of their stuff i'm not putting any of it down, just some is better than others.
|
The thing I do like about No Quarter better than the Zep version is that Tool seem to have a stronger grasp of dynamics.
Which is displayed in almost every one of their songs, one of their best qualities in my opinion. |
 he uses a megaphone in no quarter too...I think
|
Does he use a real vocal effect on Eulogy, or a megaphone there as well?
refl @ megaphones |
The thing I do like about No Quarter better than the Zep version is that Tool seem to have a stronger grasp of dynamics.
You need to get your hands on Salival, Third Eye and Push!t are better on that than the studio versions, IMO.
I've heard them before, and my they were magic! The only thing is that i don't ahve enough money to go and try and bid for a salival box set, unless i want to take out of my new bass money. I'm gonna stick with the new bass. |
Maynard has either a guitar or bass or the like in Schism too, i've got the vid of them in Radio City and he's got one on him the whole song. I'll look closely at the videos and see what they are.
|
No Quarter was the best thing on Salival, IMO.
|
Maynard does play guitar in Triad I believe, or one of the DRT songs, and he says it is used to help him harmonize his vocals. Read it in an interview.
|
No Quarter was the best thing on Salival, IMO.
yes but im still not into pu**** live from salival |
Yeah, i'm also pretty sure Maynard plays guitar on Triad...he did when i saw them live two yrs. ago.
|
Maynard does play guitar on schism...
|
Maynard does play guitar on schism...
When I saw them live, there was no guitar within twenty feet of him during that song. |
I've seen several live videos of Schism and never once did Maynard have a guitar.
|
Yeah, i don't remember him playing anything during Schism.
