Purchases/Diggage:
Gang of Four - Entertainment! {reissue} Lou Reed - Rock 'N' Roll Animal LP Philip Glass - Music With Changing Parts |
I picked up the Nick Cave b-sides & rarities set today, it's a bit of a mixed bag quality-wise, but there's like 50 songs so I kind of expected that. Still really high quality as far as b-sides albums go. I really dig his cover of Rainy Night in Soho, and the alternate version of O'Malleys Bar is awesome, even more disturbing and funny than the Murder Ballads version.
|
I'm listening to Either/Or right now. I'd say it' his best, I think the only other person who would agree with me on that is Bread, though.
|
I'd probably agree with that.
|
I love Either/Or, and have been listening to it quite a bit lately.
|
My diggage for today -
Basement Jaxx - Singles The Replacements - Let It Be You ever listened to Basement Jaxx, Zap? |
Tapey and I are Roman Candle fans.
But he likes Figure 8 alot as well. |
You ever listened to Basement Jaxx, Zap?
Nope. Today I listened to Drive Like Jehu all morning, and some Mysterious Voices of Bulgaria. I also got one Don Caballero song this morning, but I didn't much enjoy it. Too choppy and spastic in the time changes, which is something I tend to really hate. It sounded like toned-down Hella, which is still too wild for me. I need to hear an entire record, though. |
I've been listening to the Dismemberment Plan yet again.
I can't cut my addiction with Emergency & I. It's good study music too. |
^ I'm listening to it right now as well.
Tapey and I are Roman Candle fans. But he likes Figure 8 alot as well.
I still need to get my hands on a copy of Roman Candle. |
Jaga Jazzist.
Mahavishnu Orchestra. |
I am currently listening to Nick Drake's Pink Moon for the first time. I am only on the second song, though, so I haven't formulated an opinion yet.
|
This morning NIN and Black Mountain have been dug by me.
|
A hole.

Wha wha wha? |

I guess I'll form one for you, then. It's great. |
It's funny because we were all thinking it.
|
I'm listening to DJ Q-Bert again. Wave Twisters is tasty.
|
I guess I'll form one for you, then. It's great.
I agree. How does it compare to Five Leaves Left? |
Five Leaves Left and Bryter Layter are a lot different. I actually don't like the latter all that much. Both have much more involved arrangements, FLL featuring lots of strings and BL featuring more winds and things. Neither has that beautifully simplistic sound of Pink Moon, which feels like a man and his guitar.
|
Thanks, that was a lot more insightful than I had expected.
|
No problem.

Today:
The Hold Steady - Separation Sunday - Lyrically interesting, but the music falls short. Most of it's energetic but doesn't quite have enough hooks to maintain interest. Certain tracks show real promise, but too many don't feel as if they go anywhere. I'm slightly disappointed with this... |
Right now I'm listening to Neutral Milk Hotel.
Next, I'll most likely listen to some Velvet Underground. I was just playing Sweet Jane on the guitar for about 10 minutes straight for some reason, and it made me want to listen to them. |
I like the new SOAD album. It's different than any of their old albums, but their older albums are different from each other too.
|
I just picked up the new SOAD album today as well, and I have to say that its pretty quality material. I just wish that is wasn't so short. As well, it seems like a very Daron-dominated project, not that there's anythning particularly wrong with (though his vocals can be a little grating upon first listen).
Nonetheless great album, "Radio/Video" and "Old School Hollywood" are my favorites so far. |
dEUS' album Worst Case Scenario. It's aged really well for something concieved and executed in the mid 90s and even though it isn't balls out or anything it sounds awesome really fricken loud.
Also been looking at Songs For The Deaf in a new light recently and noticing Nick Oliveri's straighter (e.g. vox on Gonna Leave You and Another Love Song) contributions a lot more. It's easy for the maniac side of his performance to overshadow the fact that his singing voice is cool and holds a pop tune as well as a madman's howl. And Tom Waits is never far away. Moving to Mule Variations sure makes the supermarket mission way better. Grabbing the trolley and picking off the fruit and veg aisles to Big In Japan, Get Behind The Mule makes you feel almost lucky to be cruising the muesli bars and canned fish instead of working on a chain gang, and What's He Building? gives you the heebie jeebies just as you pull up to the butchery. There's only one Tom Waits |

Damn, the clone died? |
Pineapple Thief
The Tuna Helpers |
Keane, Bloc Party, Radiohead, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Mono, and Envy have all been getting pretty heavy rotation lately. Same with that new Gorillaz song.
|
Maximo Park, Hot Hot Heat (with the new album,) The Arcade Fire, The Rakes, The Magic Numbers, Bonar Law, Nine Black Alps and Yeti.
|
Iron Flag by the Wu Tang Clan. I haven't listened to this in a long time.
|
Damo - O
|
Joy Division
The Pixies Syd Barrett (thanks to pixiesfanyo) I also pirated Wu-Tang Clan's Iron Flag yesterday, so I have a feeling that I'll be listening to that quite a bit. |
I heard the new Gorillaz album earlier and was pleasantly surprised.
Also listened to Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People and decided I liked it despite what I previously thought. And finally, Underworld. |
I'm starting to revert back to listening to heavier stuff again, don't really know why. 'Cept I'm really starting to dig Death From Above 1979 and AFI, for the second or third time.
|
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing...
|
On the train, I listened to an mp3 player mix of;
Beck (Odelay!, Guero and Mellow Gold) Talking Heads (Remain in Light, Speaking in Tongues, Talking Heads '77, More Songs About Buildings and Food, Fear of Music) Mr Bungle (self-titled and California) Spiritualised - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space So, that. |
The Mothers of Invetion's Weasels Ripped My Flesh
Don Caballero Slint Drive Like Jehu Squarepusher Elliott Smith The Monks Andrew Hill's Black Fire John Coltrane's Lush Life The Jesus Lizard Charlie Parker |
