Well for In Flames check out their Whoracle and Colony era.....I donīt think you would like their new stuff that much but if you want to give it a shot then try Soundtrack To Your Escape which i wouldnīt really recommend.

blueyxd 02-06-2006 06:46 PM

Thanks for the last page suggestoins, I'll be checking out Dissection first.

Whale and Wasp 02-06-2006 07:27 PM

well i am a big fan of opeth but they are the only death metal band that i like so far and i am interested in hearing more music like them, so what would be some good specific songs/albums/bands to check out?

Deth 02-06-2006 07:30 PM

Death is probably the best band to start on. Symbolic, Individual Thought Patterns or The Sound Of Perseverance I would recommend as first albums from them.

Also, Bloodbath is a good one to start on, and the first album has Mikeal on it so you'll be used to the vocals already.

Txus 02-06-2006 07:32 PM

Also if you want to check out a band similar to Opeth, check out Novembre and The Provenance.

Shattered_Future 02-06-2006 07:34 PM

Add to that list, Katatonia's album Brave Murder Day (Akefeldt did guest vocals on certain parts...older, Morningriseish style) and Novembers Doom.

Whale and Wasp 02-06-2006 07:35 PM

alright thanks, ive actually heard a few death songs before before, and i will check out bloodbath, novembre, and the provenence :)

i've also heard dark tranquility mentioned a lot with opeth. are they worth hearing too?

Shattered_Future 02-06-2006 07:40 PM

I've never heard of Dark Tranquillity being mentioned alongside Opeth (aside from the fact that they're touring together), but Dark Tranquillity is the single greatest Gothenburg metal band ever. Get Character, one of the best albums I've ever heard. You won't regret it.

Quoted for 100% truth.

gillygan 02-06-2006 07:56 PM

The only Dark Tranquility ive heard is "lost to apathy" and its freaking amazing. On the subject, can anyone recommend me some gothenburg bands?

At the Gates
Dark Tranquility

Those are the only two I find myself ever coming back to as of late.

Hmmm, check out:
Arch Enemy
In Flames
Soilwork
Suidakra

Those are the only ones I can think of at the moment.

I'm looking to get into Kalmah more. I have Hades already, can anyone else upload some of their best songs?

Thanks.

Stoic 02-07-2006 12:28 PM
Opeth
definitely NOT death metal. You may like Farmakon and Disillusion as well.

A lot of that is gothenburg though.

If you're looking for less harsh stuff, gothenburg is probably your best bet, however.

If you don't care about harshness, a couple of my favorite melodic death bands (I'm really picky about it) are:

Carcass
Intestine Baalism
Eucharist
Autumn Leaves

Apocalyptic Raids 02-08-2006 12:48 AM

My favourite Melodic Death band is Arghoslent by far. Eucharist and Intestine Baalism are good too.

Stoic 02-08-2006 04:17 AM

Arsis would do as well :)

you made some mistakes... some bands are gothenburg, some others have nothing in common with melodic death (like opeth and sentenced)

... about the others i'm not sure; i don't know all the bands you listed up
