I'm really torn on whether or not the newest Melvins is excellent or just sub par. It changes between the two every listen.

NemesisDivina 06-26-2007 10:05 PM

Whoa. I just d/led Big Business's album Here Come The Waterworks. So far it's really freakin' good.

lol, the singer kinda sounds like the singer from Type O Negative when he shouts

pate 06-26-2007 10:12 PM

Peter Steele FTW

NemesisDivina 06-26-2007 10:14 PM

Yeah, he's a pretty great songwriter, not to mention the driving force behind the band.

pate 06-26-2007 10:18 PM

Type O is okay, but Carnivore was epic.
Also I really enjoy the stuff I've heard from the Lamp of Thoth, I'll have to buy their demo.
:thumb: good work that man! Whereabouts in Albion are you?

Anyway the Lamp will be releasing an EP very soon. I've heard a sample and it sounds ace!

Witchsorrow are also worth checking out.

In fact the UK has a great doom scene at the moment:

Warning
Solstice (back from the grave!)
The River
Unsilence
Witchsorrow
Cambian Dawn
Centurion's Ghost
Pagan Altar
Lamp of Thoth
Soloman Kane

not bad considering that 5 years ago there was maybe 2 bands playing proper doom

RetiredAt21 06-27-2007 06:02 AM

I never got what is so goddamn great about Carnivore. That is a band I just CANNOT get into. Ugh.

Do you guys like Nebula? I bought an abum today and it's really good ****!
I picked up Atomic Ritual for a fiver a few years ago. It's enjoyable.

Eliminator 06-27-2007 06:33 AM

type o negative blow

For real. Bunch of fags.

They're alright. Nothing amazing really, just good solid thrashing.

Dargon II 06-27-2007 06:48 AM

carnivore sucks, too much hardcore influence

RetiredAt21 06-27-2007 07:02 AM
carnivore sucks, too much hardcore influence
I don't think the hardcore influence has anything to do with. They just suck.
They're alright. Nothing amazing really, just good solid thrashing.
They don't even sound that heavy.
Grief rules. Torso is a killer album.

You heard Noosebomb?
Come To Grief is such a great album.

EDIT: Sorry about all of those posts... :(

ATM 06-27-2007 08:07 AM

Melvins rule, never question that.

RetiredAt21 06-27-2007 08:09 AM

I never got into the Melvins.

I'm from Bucks, live near Milton Keynes/Northampton

Yeah I saw they had an EP coming out, and listened to the stuff off the Miskatonic myspace which blew me away. I will be buying it as soon as it is out, cash permitting of course.
I'd love to see them in London in October with Pagan Altar and Warning, should be a great gig!

Blashyrkh 06-27-2007 08:33 AM

P.O.D. wouldn't be considered stoner metal would it? I almost got into a fight over it because I was saying it wasn't..

RetiredAt21 06-27-2007 08:44 AM

P.O.D. sucks, I think that's all that matters.

Kage 06-27-2007 09:18 AM

P.O.D has absolutely no relation to stoner metal in any way.

RetiredAt21 06-27-2007 09:19 AM

That too.

Shattered_Future 06-27-2007 11:37 AM

Yeah, whoever thought that must have **** for brains.

How are Soloman Kane? I almost got some stuff by them a few days ago...

Solstice is back?!?!?!

Poofy 666 06-28-2007 03:32 PM

Can someone tell me if the new Minsk is better than Out of a Center...?

NP: Katatonia - Velvet Thorns (of Drynwhyl)

Nepenthe 06-28-2007 05:31 PM

The new Minsk is better than almost anything ever made. Get it.

metal-militia 06-28-2007 05:54 PM
Solstice is back?!?!?!
Yep. Their albums have been reissued as well I think.

pate 06-28-2007 07:33 PM

Kickass!!!!

How are Soloman Kane? I almost got some stuff by them a few days ago...
Soloman Kane are a bit of a mysterious entity. Apparently they've been around since the 80s releasing only a few demos of extremely raw doom metal. Legend has it that they play 2 gigs a year in a secret moorland venue on the Summer and Winter Solstice.

Confusion surrounds who is actually in SK but mainman Titus Crowe (when he's not in jail) seems to the only constant member.

Pate: Solstice are indeed back. Only main songwriter and guitarist Rich Walker remains from the old lineup(s). Original drummer from Lamentations is back. Apart from that the new singer is Canadian but I've never actually heard him sing. Tom Philips from While Heaven Wept is 2nd guitarist and Diccon Harper (ex-DragonForce) is on bass.

The reissues are fantastic (including loads of great bonus tracks) and there is also a boxset with DVD coming out soon.

Nepenthe 06-29-2007 03:04 AM

That makes me really want to find some Soloman Kane.

And don't the other 3 members use the same false names?
