Creedence Clearwater Revival is essentially John Fogerty and a few friends and his brother as a back up band (lol). Fogerty is the only one with real talent of the band. Without him, they get nowhere.

And Up Around the Bend or Fortunate Son would make real impressions, as both are great examples of song writing, flawless guitar tones, and wonderful blues licks.

So I ordered [I]Trainspotting[/I] in the mail (Along with other books) and accidentally bought the screenplay :upset:

I'm still reading it though :(

Zappa could be so intellectual one minute then childish the next.

Read the lyrics to Catholic Girls by Zappa, it's in the same sort of league. He's great, combining excellent, technically strong music and often very meaningful lyrics, often disguised by use of metaphors and so on. Then he comes up with something like Catholic Girls, magnificent stuff.

Frank Zappa is still absolutely wonderful, though. His music has never been something that made me think...I laugh, more often than not.

Songs like Bobby Brown Goes Down, Titties and Beer, Dinamoe Hum, etc. are just hilarious, not stuff you think about. The one thing you could count on when it came to him was for him to try and offend people, and challenge the boundaries of artistic freedom.

I think I'm gonna go see Chicago/Earth, Wind & Fire tonight. Hoorah.

I saw that concert around this time last year, on their first world tour. It is a GREAT show, and you'll love it, guaranteed.

Good to know. I just want to hear them play 25 or 6 to 4.

Here's my theory of classic rock:

1) The Beatles started it all.
2) Jimi Hendrix was the first guy to do heavy wah guitar soloing.
3) AC/DC invented plain and simple hard rock.
4) Eddie Van Halen invented shred hammer-on tapping stuff.
5) Punk was made by The Ramones (good times) The Sex Pistols (rebellious) and by The Clash (political)
6) Black Sabbath was the first metal band.

The rest of the world's rock music just feeds off these great bands. :)

All of that is only what's accepted by lazy people who listen to too much classic rock format on the radio.

1. Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly and co invented it all.

2. yeah, ok fine

3. Simple rock was around was before AC/DC. It spawned from blues which is very simple.

4. There was shred before Eddie. Jimmy Page did some during live performances in the 70s.

5. Punk doesn't fit in anywhere in classic rock exept for maybe the MC5 and also killing classic rock.

Clapton didn't really. He was more of a basic blues guitarist until the mid 70s.

I think Cream was the first metal band, to some extents. Mainly in their live act.

Clapton did have some heavy solos...like in the original takes of some of the stuff on Fresh Cream, and on some stuff on Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire.

They were more hard rock than metal. A big part of metal is in the lyrics, black sabbath had that, but not Cream.

Couple the heavy guitar solos with Baker's blast-beats during their extended live jams and there is definitely at least signs of metal.
