I'd find out how much it sold but nowhere on the internet has up to date sales figures
Yea really. I just looked at AllMetallica.com 's numbers and St. Anger isn't even on there.

metalhead_matt 03-31-2006 01:01 PM
He played it a few times on the MIAWTW tour.

I never heard that a session drummer played that. Where'd you hear that?
just one of those things i know. but yeah he did, and it sucks. they dont play it that much at gigs because lars just tires out, which i dont blame him for really coz its ****in fast, but i think that if a band cant play a song live, dont release it on an album.

PepsiMetal 03-31-2006 01:09 PM

I heard they used studio musicians for drummers sometimes, but I didn't know they actually wrote the beat to dyer's eve. If it's true, that's stupid, but then again, I don't care for lars. He isn't the reason I listen to metallica.

metalhead_matt 03-31-2006 01:37 PM

i think lars wrote it but then realised he couldt do it. he only got the studio musician to record it, not sure if he wrote it though. thats a good point actually

Rattlehead 03-31-2006 01:47 PM

why do you listen to metallica? its not an individual artist for me, its the overall music. and i cant believe he didnt play DE...:(.

metalhead_matt 03-31-2006 01:54 PM

you get people nowadays saying how metallica are sh*t, or some people say iron maiden are. but those 2 bands influenced most of the rock music people listen to today. they were groundbreaking.
thats actually a really good question natman. coz i think i listen to them for what they did to music, and how they did it.

Lionheart1827 03-31-2006 01:58 PM
he didnt play it, session musician did it for the recordin, lars couldnt do it
I'd like you to prove that, because I have never heard that.

Here is Dyer's Eve off of Rough Justice. This was before the band recorded AJFA, noting the na na na lyrics.

metalhead_matt 03-31-2006 02:06 PM

yeah good point, it could all be a rumour. but usually when there's a rumour flying round for years, the person its associated with comes out and says something about it. lars has said nothin. hell, it might even have been lars who said he didnt do it, in an interview or somethin

I'm not really sure on that. I'm sure it would've been uncovered after all of these years, but this is the first time I've heard of it.

AJFA was Metallica at their technical limits, at least thats what it seemed like. So if any album Lars was the best on, it was AJFA. If he could play some of the double bass stuff on St Anger at like age 40, I'm pretty sure he could've played Dyer's Eve back in 89. The reason they never played it live until recently is because it was written about James' parents, more closely related to his father, not because of Lars' inability to play it.:thumb:

metalhead_matt 03-31-2006 02:19 PM

yeah i know :)
thats another point to consider aswell, their age. like yeah i want james to do his earlier vocals in the new album, but hes like 42 now, its not gonna happen.

and about the lars thing, thats what im sayin, maybe it was uncovered that he didnt play it. i just remember hearing he didnt, i dont know where it came from or anything

Hmm, let's see.

Thunderous Guitar Riffs = James
Some great and sometimes emotional solos = Kirk

Cliff was also a nice bonus too.

When Lars was sick and Jordison/Lombardo/etc. played his part I really didn't miss him or his beats. If someone took James' part or Kirk's the music would be very different.

If James is out, there is no Metallica pretty much.:thumb:

metalhead_matt 03-31-2006 03:01 PM

they wouldnt be able to cope without james

Prince of Darkness 03-31-2006 03:24 PM

This is how I see the band after watching SKOM:

Lars is actually the cool guy in the band.
Hetfield's good, but he's the a$shole in the band.
Kirk is a bit ghey
and Robert is...Amazonic.

Bonus the way James (and from the music) talked about him was like Cliff was Metallica.

Agreed.

Did anybody else hear james talking on VH1 about how mettalicas(presumably his) opinion is, they will change with the times, and if they loose fans becuase of it too bad?

Or something to that effect. It was on a thing about the black album.

Like how i stealth'd into the thread?

He said what the metallica motto has been since the beginning. They do what they want to do, and if you dont like it, then too bad.:thumb:

Dyers Eve is 194bpm. Most death metal is in the 240-260 range. See the difference?

Besides that point, Lars has always been a simplistic drummer. Thrash never needed great drumming, but I've been spoiled by Hoglan/Christy/Lombardo too much anyway.

Jev 03-31-2006 05:16 PM

No.
What if it's a song which is 32nds played at 120bpm? Does that not make it Death Metal?

vashts80 03-31-2006 05:19 PM

32nds at 120 = 16ths at 240...same difference. Dyers Eve is 16ths on the drums at 194bpm..

No lars is the asshole in the band. He clearly started every fight in the movie as well. Like when they were discussing the song or something, and lars was playing with that mini guitar and they asked him what do you think, he replied I don't know I wasn't listening. But I agree, Kirk seems gay.

In kirk's girlie voice: "Come on guys, stop arguing, we have better things to do"

Jev 03-31-2006 05:22 PM

Kirk's not gay. Can't a man be in touch with his feminine side without being called gay

PepsiMetal 03-31-2006 05:52 PM

Yea that's true. He's just feminine.

But he's gayest of all other metallica guys.

musicforlife 03-31-2006 07:06 PM

The old Metallica was amazing, the new Metallica is okay.

Mmm.
Anyone remember that picture of Kirk and Lars that was photoshopped to make them look like they were tounging?

Squirrel 04-01-2006 05:50 AM

Ugh, Lars did play Dyers Eve, just in chunks of around 6 seconds cause its all he could manage.

Rattlehead 04-01-2006 06:24 AM

Kirk would be the "hippie" of the band. what with his surfing. rather than "girlie".
Lars would be the artistic and yet argumentative one.
James is "in-your-face", and yet layed back.
Robert, well i dont know enough about him. anyone give a better description?

Jev 04-01-2006 06:26 AM

The guy in the background? I dunno.

I don't think Lars is that artistic, just likes buying Art.

Rattlehead 04-01-2006 06:31 AM

if he is the guy in the background, it'd be more like the guy who is the background.... he is a beast. i love the way he sinks to half his height when playing... that's gonna be a trademark in years to come.

Jev 04-01-2006 06:37 AM

I'd be surprised if he could still do that in 10 years time.
